Keith Rivers
I like Keith Rivers and think his performance on the field is much better than most Bengals perceive, mainly b.c of the top 10 expectations he came into the league with. Having said that, I do not think he's really an upgrade over any of our current starting LB's, don't get me wrong I think he's in the same class just not an upgrade. I like the depth of our LB's corps, especially with Donte Moch coming back into the mix and that's why I think the Bengals should consider moving Rivers before the trade deadline if it's possible.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not sure how healthy he his or what his trade value would even be worth but If I was the Bengals, I'd be putting a call into the Eagles right now. The Eagles had huge expectations this year and there defense desperately needs help, especially at LB postion and against the run. Again, not sure of his value but if I could get a 3rd or 4th round pick for him right now from a desperate team, I'd jump on it.
Just a thought I had as the trade deadline approaches.

I'm not sure how you trade Rivers when he's coming off his mystery injury.
What could you reasonably expect to get for him?
While I agree he doesn’t look like an upgrade over Howard at this point, I’d be hard pressed to argue for Vincent Rey over Rivers.
Though if his injury is going to last through October or even November, as Joe Reedy said is possible, they I would think that IR would be the best option. That would allow the whole situation to be evaluated in the off-season.
I acutally don't think Lawson has been great
Though he certainly has been solid in coverage. It might be a lateral move to have him or Rivers in there, IMO.
I thinkLawson has been very good so far.
Not going off stats, just what I’ve seen on the tee-vee.
IR seems like the most likely road so far.......
the guy had his wrist surgically rebuilt, can’t forsee him playing this season and right now it’s not worth the risk of bringing him back too early (for depth or trade value).

Probably the most realistic scenario.

doubt rivers can clear medically before trade deadline
no team would knowingly accept an injured player in trade

not seeing it happening either.
expect rivers to fall into 4 scenarios:
1) held onto as insurance against howard being a 1 year wonder or getting injured.
2) given a chance to win the slb/wlb jobs in training camp
3) traded if theres a market higher than a 5th round pick
4) asked to take a paycut and kept on roster as depth.

cant edit, meant those for 2012 scenarios

Will they even make room for him?
If Kelly Jennings hadn’t been a disappointment so far, I’d say they might not bring him back at all. Remember they traded for Jennings, and with a trio of Jennings, Clements, and Hall, Jones becomes a bit irrelevant.
Personally, I wish they’d cut Sands. From what i saw in the pre-season, he looks like too much of a project too me, and I don’t think he’ll cut it in this league
as strange as it sounds
it would probably be a safe move for the bengals to waive anyone from their secondary with PS eligibility. attempt to move to them PS once they clear waivers. no team in the nfl has a major secondary need currently.
if we were talking WR or LB, I could see a team claiming one of those players. like the panthers are so thin at LB because of injury. the texans need another WR etc.
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
Who has more spec teams value?
Miles, Sands, Peerman, Jennings? I agree Jones’ injury makes him susceptible to further time off, and you hate to waive a healthy guy for a potentially fragile minor upgrade.
Joel, get off the babysitter
don't get me wrong

"Suck for Luck"? Forget that
2010 was "Schemin’ for Green and Faultin’ for Dalton."
Let him sit behind Howard and Lawson...
Maybe it will inspire him to get his s%$* together and show us why we drafted him in the top ten. Then again, maybe like Palmer he’s ready for a fresh start somewhere fresh.
Polamalu, Matthews III, Maualuga, Sanchez, Rucker...
Any school that churns out this number of picks will have a mix of busts in there.
Is Cassel a wash up? He was never supposed to be Brady. He’s been okay on a bad team.

Overreaction?
Rivers is not a washup. He’s a good player, he’s just not a playmaker like you’d want in a top ten pick. I’d take him over all the guys you mentioned above.

I agree Paul, but he has not performed to a level that justifies the #1 pick.
If your #1 pick isn’t an impact player you have kind of mised the boat. Solid players, which I agree Rivers is, are available on down the draft list. It isn’t that he is bad – he just isn’t ustifying his draft position.

I see your point, and agree he's been a disappointment for his draft slot, but..
does draft position matter anymore? It’s about time for his new contract, isn’t it? If he stays for a salary that matches his contribution to the team, i.e. lower-starter high-backup range, why give him the boot?
The real loss is the guy we could have drafted instead if him
I don’t blame Rivers. I think he is doing the best he can and I think we should keep him until someone better needs his spot. and I an not sure at this point that he is better than anyone on our LB corps – even the backups like Skuta. Hell, he might even be better off elsewhere. Look what happened with Smith and Brooks in San Fran..
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
No.
Keep Rivers. We already have the #1 D in the League. I like the idea just for the depth chart.

I don't really disagree but somehow using a recent #1 as a backup smacks of failure on some level.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Perhaps lack of a scouting dept......

Keith Rivers = Brian Simmons
Gentle tacklers. Rivers is okay, just not mean enough for me.
