Jason Cole Picks the Colts over Bengals
Why does this guy hate the Bengals so irrationally. Statistically, we have an advantage on every phase of the game. We have home field advantage. Joseph Addai, their starting HB is out. Their offensive coordinator/coach/general manager/quarterback Peyton Manning is out. Oh, and by the way, they're 0-5 AND we're 3-2.
So why does this idiot have to pick against us EACH AND EVERY week? Why does this team, with the #1 D and an excellent QB-WR tandem for the future still garner so much hate?
It's so irritating, and worse, so illogical.

im actually really worried about the colts
Painter has looked pretty good, and a winless team is dangerous. But all football logic says we win this game.

He wants more recognition.
If he choses right, he can say “I told everybody” “look at me, I’m right”. If he choses wrong he can say " look at the organization as a whole, look at the past 20 years!".
It’s a safe pick for a so called sports journalist douche bag..
Jason Cole...
…needs to stop reporting on football, and go see Jenny Craig.
The dude is the epitome of a no-talent hack who simply looks at the by-lines from ESPN and the NFL Network’s articles and makes his assessments. Hell… I doubt he even watches SportsCenter, as you’d learn more about the “bad” teams there than you would displaying the knowledge he has. His reality in the journalism world is about on the same level as the National Enquirer.
I’ve gotten to the point where I simply don’t read his articles, unless I need to laugh at someone more pathetic than Mike Brown.
Honestly?
Who cares? Predictions are worthless. I can predict the Bengals to win the Super Bowl next year, go 16-0, and trade Palmer for a first round pick but we all know its not going to happen. Predictions are for the weak as the game is played on Sunday and that is what determines the winner. Not some “analysts” opinion.

Except for the part about going 16-0 and winning the Super Bowl.

Thing is...
…with Cole, the Bengals could go 16-0, win the Super Bowl, trade Palmer as a #1 pick, keep the entire team together with no off-season drama, and Cole would still pick us as the worst team in the league at the start of the next season. He’s shown time and time again that he’s a homer for the Squeelers – and that’s probably part of the problem.
There's always hope
As a die hard Bengals fan I’m looking forward to eating my words and watching them show greatness week in and week out this year as well as next. I think the Bengals are peaking earlier than expected but won’t shock the world next year come February.
Jason Cole
has about as much knowledge, expertise and authority at picking NFL games as I do at picking the next WNBA champion.

Is it too early
to say that I just hope we wipe the floor with Sh!ttsburgh? Sorry, had to get that out of my system.
This game does mean a lot to us fans given the potential for a 4-2 entry into our bye week along with proving that we are capable of not blowing a winnable game. Here enlies the problem though, with respect to “analysts” and the rest of the NFL as a whole. In the eyes of others: If we win, whoopee, the Colts are 0-5, without Manning and Addai, and it’s in the Jungle. If we lose, however, it’s an embarrassment and a reason for the most annoying word on earth (Bungle) to be used profusely on Sportscenter for the next week. I always hope for a good ol’ fashioned blowout but never expect it, and this week is no different. Who Dey.

To me actually seems like a very good journalist who is biased against the Bengals. As a tried and true Bengals fan, this is very frustrating, but as a fellow writer, it is refreshing to see someone who understands the English language write about sports. Contrast this to Michael Silver who knows quite a bit about sports and the NFL but is a terrible terrible writer. Life has tradeoffs, I wish Cole liked the Bengals, but he doesn’t (usually) go out of his way to write poorly about our boys in stripes.
I’d like to sum up by noting once more for the record, Silver is a terrible terrible writer.
I actually think Silver is pretty good.
He seems to act like a real football fan when he writes. Maybe he is a little too conversational, but he’s not that bad. If we want to see really bad stuff on Yahoo! Sports, just take a look at Chris Chase. That dude is an idiot.

My issue with Silver is
He focuses too much on himself. Notice the number of times Silver uses the word “I” versus Cole. This does let Silver get more conversational, but it also implies he is more concerned about telling us his story than telling a story well. It is a standard convention in good writing to eliminate the number of times one says “I” to make the story more accessible to the audience.
One thing about Silver is he has some really rich history in sports. Like his article about HIS experience with Shaq was such a cool personal narrative. Its just he uses personal narratives in almost every article and many times it appears to be a lame attempt to give himself credibility. He is the writer for yahoo, he has credibility, shoutouts like that in his own writing just seems like bragging needlessly to me, further distancing his writing from relatability.
He is more accurate than the other guys on Yahoo

I doubt that he hates the Bengals
He simply has no rooting interest in the Bengals and is also unimpressed with them. The Bengals currently have the potential to become impressive, but as a franchise have generally been less than impressive. A disinterested person has no particular reason to look at the Bengals and see a team that can be reliably expected to win games that it “should” win or those that it shouldn’t. When they have progressed in that direction they have had a tendency to regress. We all hope that the cycle will end here, but that has yet to be proven. The Colts on the other hand are in down period due to key injury in a relatively long history of being reliable winners. So, when a guy like Cole is trying to be clever and look smart, it’s only natural that he tend to go against a team like the Bengals and side with a team like the Colts. We’ll see what happens.

Igor: Dr. Frankenstein…
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: “Fronkensteen.”
Igor: You’re putting me on.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, it’s pronounced “Fronkensteen.”
Igor: Do you also say “Froaderick”?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No… “Frederick.”
Igor: Well, why isn’t it “Froaderick Fronkensteen”?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: It isn’t; it’s “Frederick Fronkensteen.”
Igor: I see.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You must be Igor.
[He pronounces it ee-gor]
Igor: No, it’s pronounced “eye-gor.”
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: But they told me it was “ee-gor.”
Igor: Well, they were wrong then, weren’t they?
