Slept in. Woke up to a beautiful day. Drove with all the windows down to the liquor store and got myself some Yuenglings. I am so happy to be a Bengals fan on this fine Sunday. Who Dey, not the damn Colts.

Pass to set up the run.
It’s like we’re really a balanced team not relying on some “pound the rock” philosophy.
On another NOTE!
Dont u think WE ALL didnt notice the ZERO coverage on the BENGALS today on NFL SUNDAY………………….4-2 into the BYE sounds sweet!!!! WHODEY!
Actually, watching NFL pregame show on CBS
First thing mentioned today was from Bill Cowher. Talking about how the bengals are a surprise, and a team that shouldn’t be counted on as a loss immediatly anymore.
I've grown to really like Cowher
He never throws the Bengals under the bus and points out when they are doing well, while Boomer just craps all over them

As much as we hate the Steelers,
Cowher has always been a class act, and he makes sure to give teams like the Bengals their due when other commentators focus on bigger market teams.

Cowher is always the first to mention when the Bengals played a great game.
I hated him as a coach because he coached the Steelers and he won a lot, but I respect him and like him as a person. Also, if he came out of retirement and coached the Bengals I think we’d all love him.
I watch NFL network..
They had nothing but good to say about our Bengals. Michael Irvin said our team smells like money lol.
There is still a lot of game left
But I like what I’ve seen, great start
green vs ocho (2011 stats)
24 rec 402 yards
9 rec 136 yards

Man, these blackouts kill me.
It’s such a dumb rule. It clearly isn’t making us buy more tickets, so all it really does is decrease overall interest in the NFL. I guarantee that quite a few people have lost a lot of interest in football due to only being able to watch half the games.

No he started returning kicks..
They did this last week too. They seem to like Clements better on punts. I don’t get it.
Clements returned one earlier this season.
Looks like they don’t trust Tate near the goal line.
Uh, what?
Is this a new thing for punts inside the 50, maybe? Because of Tate’s several bad decisions?

dude.............serious!?
Where is this #1 NFL “D” at !??? They are running the ball on us at will. NATE needs ZIMMER TIME
You have to hope
That Zimmer will figure it out and change the scheme. Bubble screens and dump passes aren’t all that hard to take care of against a team with a “suspect” O-Line.
hey guys
who cares if we lose the #1 ranking as long as we win. this isn’t college, ranks shouldn’t matter.
The point isnt losing the ranking
The point is that as the #1 defense, we shouldn’t let them walk over us like that
agreed
But we still do need to win. I don’t care if our defense gives up 500 yards, but if we don’t win this game it’s a disappointment.
Pretty clear how important Rey was to the run D.
And how detrimental Clements is to all facets of the D
They are going to expose Clements all game.

Seriously you've got the check out of that play.
3 point lead into the half though, I’ll take it. Offense is playing lights out right now TD or not. That should have been play action all the way to AJ Green or Rome.
I think part of the problem is
the offense is not that complicated yet. They’re missing a lot of plays. They don’t use a lot of motion to confuse things, they’re not throwing to the running backs, they’re mostly using tight ends as dump offs.
Perhaps that’s intentional because Dalton’s a rookie and you’re not going expect him to master the whole 200 pages of the full blown Bill Walsh system. Or it could be Gruden. We’ll find out in 2012.
by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 16, 2011 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions
imagine that.
benson fails when it matters again.
they need to use leonard in that situation, at least that way the defense will have to guess whether we’re passing it or running it with leonard.
different person
same purpose. a back that can catch or run keeps the D guessing. they see benson back there and they assume run
Yes, I'm sure Leonard could have plowed over 4 guys.
You’re point about him being a passing threat is well taken, but that wasn’t Benson’s fault. There was nowhere to go.

I still think their early struggles were more because of adjusting to not having Manning than anything else.

He isn’t a shutdown corner and we compare him to JJoe but that’s not him. He’s gritty, he’s usually great in run support, and he knows how to break up a pass. These are things we should love him for.
After that block instead of the stutter steps..
He needs to just turn the burners on and try to beat his man on the sideline.

Now you’re being critical for no reason. Just because you want Cosby back that doesn’t mean you should bitch about a 33 yard punt return. I don’t think Cosby ever had one of those.
I am not a Quasby fan.
I’ve defended Tate over and over. He just makes questionable decisions. If he just streaks down the sideline you could add 15 yards to the return.

Someone Mentioned Pat McAfee
Not always the best reference, but from Wikipedia “On October 20, 2010, WRTV Channel 6, the Indianapolis ABC affiliate, reported that McAfee had been arrested and preliminarily charged with public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor. McAfee had been found shirtless and wet, and assumed to be swimming in a canal in Broad Ripple, a popular nightclub area, drunk, at approximately 5:15 that morning after being reported by a woman who found him near her car. Police reported that he tested with a blood alcohol content of 0.15.”

Still don’t like all of this relying on Ced for short yardage in the red zone. 2nd and goal on the 2 would have been a nice time for a play action shot. Still, great play by Pressley leading to the TD.

And odn't tell me he has a 33 yard return today
All he did was run in a straight line behind Peerman’s insane block. A decent returner would have taken that to the house.
Fair enough.
But all that means it the coverage was busted. There was no one anywhere near him. He caught the ball and ran in a straight line. Didn’t make a single move.

I really don't get our 3rd down play calling.
Sometimes Gruden is brilliant, like the last Leonard screen pass, then other times we CLEARLY aren’t even trying to get a 1st down and call plays designed to go for 1 yard less than what we need.
It's not just today
It’s been all year. Earlier we were tied in the first half with a 3rd and 7 and called a 6 yard hook route to Caldwell. And that’s happened a LOT.
conservative smashmouth for the win
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
He doesn't use the kind of route that will work
you have to get the ball to a guy with a few yards of clearance in front of him.
The 49ers used to use motion, throw a lot of slants, in those situations.

Good mix of TDs and FGs..
You cannot win them all. We have a commanding lead and it’s time for the defense to step up and for the offense to play ball control. I don’t mean you take the foot of their throat but you start to call the smart plays, just like Dalton dumping to Caldwell. Take what they give you, which so far is a lot.
We're only up two scores.
Not really a commanding lead.
Largest Bengal lead of the season, no?

Perhaps you're not getting my point.
My point is that MJ is a pass-rusher, not a run-stopper. Blue Steel’s idea was that he shouldn’t start and should instead be played situationally. MJ’s sack on an obvious passing situation doesn’t affect that thesis.

Marvin is way too soft.
He has the attitude that it’s somehow bad form to “run up the score” on another coach. So he gets up by 2 scores and he just sits on it. Like last week when we had a 4th down in the red zone against Jacksonville in the 4th quarter and DIDN’T kick a field goal that would have sealed the game. Instead gave the Jags a chance to tie it with a TD. Now he stops trying to score with a 13 point lead and look where we are.
And Nugent misses

Trent's was a killer

Only person I see fighting is a crybaby
They won as expected but played down to a very bad team. Any objective fan would say they need to play better to meet the raised expectations of many here. I am not excited at all, when they win a playoff game, yes. Everyone has the right to criticize the team even if they were 5-0. And those who call out such people are whiners or crybabies. Good job team, props to the realists.
The main thing that didn't look good
was they didn’t play WCO today. In West Coast Offense when your running game ain’t workin’ you use the pass to control the clock. They didn’t do that. PERIOD.
by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 16, 2011 4:04 PM EDT reply actions
It almost feels like Gruden and marvin are taking turns on series calling the offensive plays.
We’ll come out with one type of offense, it will work great, then the next time out we’ll do something totally different that won’t work at all. We’ll stick with that for a few 3 and outs and then try something totally different. Rinse. Repeat.
NOTES!
Agreeing with above statement. We are NOT dominating. Once we start playing teams in our DIV were gonna get stuck
consider it a blessing we don't have the heavy division games till a couple weeks
so far so good. indy without payton was still decent offensively. our offense looked pretty good today. a little conservative for out tastes at times, but played well. need to shore up our secondary, but the D got it done today.

Dalton's best game to date.
Easily. Only one bad pass really (1st quarter…should have been a pick) but his distribution was incredible. I think he completed a pass to every eligible receiver on the roster except Tate. The TD to Green was a perfect pass, and the 30+ yarder to Simpson was probably the best deep ball he’s thrown in a Bengals uniform yet. Get him an actually effective running back and this offense is taking off.

I doubt they will win in Seattle, they are very tough there
But anything is possible if the defense keeps them close and Dalton keeps playing well.
