I really dislike the pass routes for Gresham

too much dink and dunk — he’s got wheels, why not run him a bit farther downfield?

He isn’t that agile, so his broken tackles need to come via momentum. They need to get him downfield.

Seriously you've got the check out of that play.

3 point lead into the half though, I’ll take it. Offense is playing lights out right now TD or not. That should have been play action all the way to AJ Green or Rome.

by Cry on Oct 16, 2011 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

I think part of the problem is

the offense is not that complicated yet. They’re missing a lot of plays. They don’t use a lot of motion to confuse things, they’re not throwing to the running backs, they’re mostly using tight ends as dump offs.

Perhaps that’s intentional because Dalton’s a rookie and you’re not going expect him to master the whole 200 pages of the full blown Bill Walsh system. Or it could be Gruden. We’ll find out in 2012.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 16, 2011 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

imagine that.

benson fails when it matters again.

Manning practically served as their QB, OC and (somewhat) head coach. It’s not that they aren’t talented, but it’s a lot to get used to. Like the Pats without Bellichick

Someone Mentioned Pat McAfee

Not always the best reference, but from Wikipedia “On October 20, 2010, WRTV Channel 6, the Indianapolis ABC affiliate, reported that McAfee had been arrested and preliminarily charged with public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor. McAfee had been found shirtless and wet, and assumed to be swimming in a canal in Broad Ripple, a popular nightclub area, drunk, at approximately 5:15 that morning after being reported by a woman who found him near her car. Police reported that he tested with a blood alcohol content of 0.15.”

Sometimes Gruden is brilliant, like the last Leonard screen pass, then other times we CLEARLY aren’t even trying to get a 1st down and call plays designed to go for 1 yard less than what we need.

Good mix of TDs and FGs..

You cannot win them all. We have a commanding lead and it’s time for the defense to step up and for the offense to play ball control. I don’t mean you take the foot of their throat but you start to call the smart plays, just like Dalton dumping to Caldwell. Take what they give you, which so far is a lot.

Marvin is way too soft.

He has the attitude that it’s somehow bad form to “run up the score” on another coach. So he gets up by 2 scores and he just sits on it. Like last week when we had a 4th down in the red zone against Jacksonville in the 4th quarter and DIDN’T kick a field goal that would have sealed the game. Instead gave the Jags a chance to tie it with a TD. Now he stops trying to score with a 13 point lead and look where we are.

because they HAD to come through in the clutch. If they’d played decent the rest of the 4th quarter they wouldn’t have had to.

“All that matters” is BS. They played a shitty team. If that had been Pittsburgh or Baltimore, that game is a loss.

Rey’s out, I get it. They get a bye week and Pacman back. But their play today was not inspiring until they were backed into a corner.

Only person I see fighting is a crybaby

They won as expected but played down to a very bad team. Any objective fan would say they need to play better to meet the raised expectations of many here. I am not excited at all, when they win a playoff game, yes. Everyone has the right to criticize the team even if they were 5-0. And those who call out such people are whiners or crybabies. Good job team, props to the realists.

by brisd on Oct 16, 2011 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

The main thing that didn't look good

was they didn’t play WCO today. In West Coast Offense when your running game ain’t workin’ you use the pass to control the clock. They didn’t do that. PERIOD.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 16, 2011 4:04 PM EDT reply actions

It almost feels like Gruden and marvin are taking turns on series calling the offensive plays.

We’ll come out with one type of offense, it will work great, then the next time out we’ll do something totally different that won’t work at all. We’ll stick with that for a few 3 and outs and then try something totally different. Rinse. Repeat.

Dalton's best game to date.

Easily. Only one bad pass really (1st quarter…should have been a pick) but his distribution was incredible. I think he completed a pass to every eligible receiver on the roster except Tate. The TD to Green was a perfect pass, and the 30+ yarder to Simpson was probably the best deep ball he’s thrown in a Bengals uniform yet. Get him an actually effective running back and this offense is taking off.

Great season so far! We win in Seatle this time. They really don’t have the skill players on O. I say it will be a low scoring game but we will come out on top. D will have a bounce back game, if you call giving up 273 yrds a bad day?
