Ravens vs. Jaguars

SOOOOO, I'm watching the Ravens/Jaguars Monday Night game right now and it's making me extremely happy as I'm watching Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, and the Ravens offense get completely manhandled right now by a Jaguars defense that several weeks ago Dalton was able to have decent success against. It also says a lot about how our offensive line has improved as they able to keep Dalton on his feet for the most part in that game while the Ravens supposedly more "seasoned" offensive line is getting pushed into the backfield and manhandled right now by Jeremy Mincey and Aaron Kampman. What do ya'll think? The Ravens aren't looking as scary right now based on what they're showing tonight.

Lovin' it

Jags are smellin’ blood on D…now if MJD can just hold on to the damned ball!

I know it's early.......

But I think if Baltimore loses we will be #1 in the division. Just a thought.

With the way Flacco and their offensive line are playing tonight...

I’m smelling blood when we play them, although let’s not look past Seattle and Tennessee beforehand. But our D is better than Jacksonville’s and they are downright exploiting Flacco and that offensive line tonight.

I meant we will #1 through 1week. Lol

It could be argued that Dalton is the best AFCN QB

He is definitely better than McCoy. Flacco is inconsistent and rarely shines. Roethlisberger is not that exceptional outside of his size and scrambling ability.

I don’t want to get too ahead of myself but Dalton has a lot of room to grow and the potential to be the best QB in a tough division.

by Jems617 on Oct 25, 2011 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Roethlisberger is still ahead of him...

because he can throw down the field better than Dalton can. But he’s not getting any younger and he’s not in the best of shape right now so his scrambling ability is deteriorating.

by dstacify on Oct 25, 2011 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

Their offensive line is not giving him any help. Hopefully our front seven (and every other team’s front seven) can make good use of that.

by Jems617 on Oct 25, 2011 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

But analyzing each QB individually...

Roethlisberger-plays behind worst O-line in the division. Similar to Peyton Manning in that when he turns the ball over, he turns it over a lot, as he proved week 1 vs. the Ravens. Has good arm strength though, has been hitting Mike Wallace in stride this year.
McCoy-heavily relied on Hillis running the ball last year which made him more successful in certain games. Without Hillis being in there he’s being exposed as not being a guy you want to throw the ball 30-40 times a game, similar to Roethlisberger early in his career. Doesn’t help that he doesn’t have any high-quality receivers to throw to like the other three teams in the AFCN. Their TEs are their best receivers.
Flacco-extremely inconsistent at best, at his worst he’s just downright terrible. Ray Rice carries that offense and without him Flacco would not be nearly as successful as he has been in his three-year career. I’ve called him the most overrated QB in the AFCN and maybe in the NFL and tonight did nothing to change my mind.
Dalton-off to a much faster start in his rookie year than McCoy a year ago and the Bengals haven’t really been the run-first team we all thought they would be going into this season as Benson has been inconsistent so Dalton doesn’t have the run support that McCoy had a year ago with Hillis. Has arguably the best receiver in the AFCN to throw to now in AJ Green which has padded his stats (although Boldin and Wallace could be making their own cases as well). Has questionable arm strength but love how he uses the pump fake, something Carson never used. Not a guy we want throwing hail maries though lol.

by dstacify on Oct 25, 2011 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions

Does Gradkowski have a stronger arm for hail marys?

Maybe a future bengals backup should have a strong arm and be a “hail mary specialist”

by DTFCPDX on Oct 25, 2011 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

uh..
Roethlisberger is not that exceptional outside of his size and scrambling ability.

You can’t remove that from the equation. Plus he has the strongest arm in the division. Sigmund’s ability to “scramble” (it’s more of a zombie walk, he’s just so big that he can’t be knocked down) allows him to extend plays and give his receivers time to free up from the coverage.

"Suck for Luck"? Forget that
2010 was "Schemin’ for Green and Faultin’ for Dalton."

And the Ravens Lose!!!

Gotta love seeing them lose to a team we managed to beat.

Especially if...

Especially if it comes down to a tie-breaking situation. Record against common opponents!

by Jems617 on Oct 25, 2011 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

That could be huge later on for that very reason.......

that’s one the Ravens are going to look back on and say *&^%!

by The Van Buren Boys on Oct 25, 2011 8:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Called it earlier

I called this a trap game for the Ravens mostly cause the Steelers just barely squeaked by the JAGS 17-14 with some last minute heroics.. The Ravens offensive line looks old!

I represent the Bengals of Cincinati with extreme passion and prejudice and make no apologies for it!

by Law1951 on Oct 25, 2011 12:32 AM EDT reply actions

That's the thing...

on the outside at tackle, where they were just getting run around tonight, they have Michael Oher, a huge guy who’s still in the prime of his career. On the other side they have Bryant McKinnie who’s over 30 now so I’m guessing they were missing big Jared Gaither playing opposite Michael Oher tonight. They did look extremely slow compared to that young, blitz-heavy Jacksonville defense. Muncey had a huge game tonight and I remember he was able to get to Dalton a few times when we played them as well.

curious

The Jags are 2-5 now, and the three games they’ve played against the top 3 teams in the winningest division in the NFL have all been nailbiters.

by indesignkat on Oct 25, 2011 12:34 AM EDT reply actions

This division is wide open I tell ya..........

we’ve got a good game coming out of the bye week, a little time to rest up our LB’s and get ready for a tough, but what is going to be an exciting stretch run. We need these next two games before hitting the tough last third of our schedule.

by The Van Buren Boys on Oct 25, 2011 8:23 AM EDT reply actions

Everyone in our division has had it pretty easy to this point

Everyone on this board should know that the hardest divisional games are in the 2nd half. The cream of the division will rise to the top. Do I think we are it? No. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are the top teams here until we dethrone them. It is as simple as that. Is the separation as wide as we may have assumed earlier? The answer to that is no as well. I will say this, if we win the next two games against Seattle and Tennessee I will really like our chances, but even then it is the Pittsburgh and Baltimore series that will determine how far we go.

That being said, IMO this season is looking to be a success regardless of our winning a playoff spot or not. Most didn’t know if we would win four games all season. My over/under, and I am an optimist, was six games. I am hopeful that we can go to the post season but lets keep it real. There is a lot of football to be played.

Okay Next I wll play it your way

We win! We are great! All we have to do is show up! Dalton is Brady and Manning rolled into one! The division is already ours! Superbowl here we come! Nobody stands a chance against the mighty men in stripes!

Okay, now that you have lept about there is real work to do. And believe it or not we are probably not the best team in the division. I totally believe everything I said above.

Keep faith JJ

You know as well as I do at the beginning of the season everyone was predicting a dismal season for us. Well look at us now! We have already exceeded any pundit’s expectations. And honestly we should be 6-0 to this point. We didn’t choose the schedule we have.

Now, we have Seattle, then Titans – both winnable. Then we go 5 straight “in division”. That will be our litmus test. We play both the Steelers and Ravens very tight. If we go 50% against them, and beat the Browns – that’s 9 wins. Then there Rams and Cards – that would be 10 or 11.

It is certainly realistic to have these expectations. So think positive with a lot of optimism brother. Cause until it ain’t so, it IS!

Law, anyone who has read my posts over the time I have been here........

should know that I am very faithful to the Bengals cause. I agree with everything you said. I think we have a very realistic chance of doing something special – maybe even this year. I don’t think, however that anyone can find anything in my original post above that wasn’t true. The path to greatness in this division still goes thru the perennial top two in this division – Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

We, IMO, are getting better every game and it is very possible that we will continue that trend thru to the end of the season. I have no idea how good this team can be and won’t until I see evidence that we are leveling off. The fan base here is riding pretty high right now and rightfully so and I would hate to see the gleeful level of optimism come crashing down. This is still a legit rebuilding process, but we have a long way to go IMO to get to where we need to. There is still a lot of work for this team to do. I still have a lot of faith Law. I just want to keep it real.. That does not mean I am negative or losing faith.

Flacco exposed?

I don’t listen to talk radio or watch ESPN, so I don’t know if anyone is talking about this, but how dumb did Flacco look last night? The Ravens got the ball at the end, down by 9, with I think 9 minutes left. The Jags defense played it perfectly, locking up the sidelines and otherwise playing deep. Flacco played right into their hands by dinking and dunking passes over the middle for 6 and 7 yards. Sure they got down the field and did eventually get a touchdown, but it took something like 7 minutes off the clock. Needing two scores, you have to know you can’t burn 7 minutes on a drive when there’s only 9 minutes left. He showed no awareness of the clock at all. Harbaugh looked like he wanted to strangle Flacco for all the time he was wasting walking slowly up to the line.

by indesignkat on Oct 25, 2011 12:27 PM EDT reply actions

The media

has been all over Flacco all day lol. Its really interesting becasue I was thinking as the Bengals played the Jags that their team was not all that bad, esp defensive line and running the ball… Low and behold it wasnt that the Bengals did poorly but that they did really well against those aspects of the Jags team.
