So every day after work I like to come home, get on my lap top and study statistics and film. Sometimes it's the Bengals, or an upcoming opponent, other times it's for my other passion the NFL Draft.
Like any morning I did my usual routine, watch some film on NFL prospects, tweet some of my random thoughts & or when I get really excited watching a prospect I'll send Goodberry a tweet. Well after my routine I started to read all the power rankings, and the possible season outcomes for the Bengals. It made me realize the slight possibility the Bengals have to finish at a fringe playoff record. And in my current Draft mindset, it made me think how late the Bengals picks might be now.
A hypothetical scenario crossed my mind this morning, if the #1 RB Trent Richardson, is already drafted by our picks what would the team go after? Well it would seem the most glaring need for the Bengals after a future #1 RB, is definitely the need to have the starting CB of the next 5-10 years. So there's 1 of the 2 Bengals 1st round draft picks, now what?
Well the Bengals could go:
- Defensive tackle, a strong run stopping DT would most likely be available in the range of 1B. (Ex :Alameda Ta'amu, Brandon Thompson)
- Linebacker, I'd say for the most part the group is good now with Thomas Howard at WLB, and Lawson playing SLB while Moch is being groomed. But a BPA situation could spring up with SLB. (Ex: Courtney Upshaw, Vontaze Burfict )
- Offensive Line, The possibility about having insurance for Andre Smith, while having a starter at Guard seems promising to me. And if Smith works out, the Bengals still have a starting guard. (Ex: Mike Adams, Matt Reynolds)
- Wide Receiver, This is one of the most perplexing scenarios to me, with Jerome Simpson being a FA and facing serious jail time in the future & Andre Caldwell to become a FA, the Bengals need to address the #2 WR position. And if a top WR/BPA is sitting at 1B would the Bengals pass on the chance to pair AJ with another young dynamic WR, or to upgrade The Red Rifle's targets? This may be too good to pass up on. (Ex: Michael Floyd, Jeff Fuller)
