Dalton will be at the top of the division in a couple years.
Although, I’m beginning to believe that QBs coming out of college now are all very well prepared for the NFL. I think the level of the college game and the pressure and spotlight we place on it now prepares these QBs for the pros on a level we’ve never seen before. Look at this year’s QBs. Cam, success. Dalton, success. Gabbert, looking close to success. Ponder, looking like a legit QB.
I think that Luck, Barkley, Jones.. they’ll all be serviceable to great QBs. Even Robert Griffin. It’s just not as hit or miss as it used to be. In the old model, Dalton projects to a top 10 QB at least. If every new QB class has the success of this last one, he may just be average in comparison.
We shall see.
Good point...
a lot of the QBs coming out in the last couple of years have been very much ready for the NFL as far as game speed. A year ago it was Bradford, although he seems to have regressed a little bit this year. This year, of course, Dalton and Cam are the headliners and are having fantastic seasons. The only exception really of a QB out of the last two drafts who still might not be NFL-ready as far as mechanics is Tebow and he’s out there making plays for his team despite his unorthodox style of play. Of course there also is Jimmy Clausen out of last year’s draft and we all know where he stands now.
Yeah, there's busts every now and then but it seems like it's a lot easier to take a QB nowadays.
Over the past few years, players have kinda stuck and performed well, to an extent. I still think both Sanchez and Flacco are overrated and beneficiaries of the teams they’re playing on (the RBs carry those teams, not the QB).
Good comparisons.
Dalton’s not looking much like a rookie right now.
I would also like to point out that, while it doesn’t change the overall rankings, Roethlisberger has played in 7 games, and the rest have played in 6 (Steelers haven’t had their bye yet). He’s still putting up more yards and TDs per game than the rest though, and has the higher passer rating, but it makes the stats seem a little more skewed than they really are.
