Bengals Player Pick 'Em Wk 9 @ Tennessee

OK so this time we weren't quite as good as previously in that we had a few penalties and we gave up a sack, but we still did pretty good on offense.  And special teams and defense really stepped up, so major kudos to them.  I was a bit worried about their special teams but it turned out to be OUR special teams that really turned the game for us.  Congrats to Tate for finally finding the endzone and for Pacman for getting things started by setting us up for a short TD drive early in the game.  And of course we mustn't forget Nelson bringing home the game-icing pick-6 for the knockout blow.

Unfortunately the running game didn't do as much as we hoped.  Now don't get me wrong, it was fairly decent and it was a pretty good defense we were facing off against as well.   But I also figure we all hoped to see Scott (or at least somebody) make it into the endzone on the ground and it never happened.  Well maybe next week.  Still Scott showed that in space he can be pretty dangerous, so we need to use him more.  Hopefully we will.

We didn't fall for the trap game last week, will we fall for it this week?  We have four critical games against division rivals coming up in the very near future, are we going to make the mistake of overlooking the Titans?  The way they beat up on the Colts suggest we would be unwise to do so.  Oh I still think we can beat them, but it probably won't be a pushover unless we turn ourselves into one by overlooking them.

Oh and please remember to un-rec the previous week's post if you rec'd it previously...

Scoring recap post from last week is repeated below the jump as well as the summary version of the rules.  (Review the original full write-up of the rules here if you like.)  Pick your player in the comments and have fun!

Star-divide

I still haven’t gotten to watch this game, I wasn’t able to watch it live, and I haven’t had time to pull it up on Game Rewind yet. I plan on rectifying that as soon as I can, but in the meantime I better go on ahead and get all the numbers processed so we’re ready for next week.

We had 46 legitimate entries this week, which means a maximum standard score of 45 (before doubling for a defensive score). And most of the players who would count for a score in this week’s game were picked, with the exception of Gibril Wilson who recovered the fumble Howard forced. Interestingly that was the only fumble of the entire game, so extra props to Howard for forcing it.

Here are our weekly points scored:

ItsAlwaysSunnyInDayton – 90 pts (Reggie Nelson)

Here is a quick recap of the rules.

  1. Pick one player (Make it easy on me, make him the title of your post.  Both first and last name please, and please try to avoid nicknames or blatant misspellings.) who is NOT officially listed as a QB, P, or PK on the roster.
  2. An offensive score is worth one point per participant who did not pick your player.
  3. A defensive player is worth 2/1/0.5 point(s) per participant who did not pick your player based on if he 2) actually scored, 1) gained possession of the ball for the team but didn't actually score, or 0.5) allowed the Bengals to gain possession by causing a fumble (or blocking a kick) that another Bengals player recovered.  Sacks or tackles behind the line of and by themselves are not worth anything unless they are a strip-sack (0.5 points if we recover) or they are also a safety (2 points).  All half-points will be rounded down.  A blocked FG is always 0.5 for the blocker, a blocked punt is the same unless the blocker is the only person (on either team) to touch the ball before it becomes a safety (in which case it becomes 2 points).
  4. You score the maximum possible points for your player but only one time.  So a defensive player who forces an opponent's fumble that Cincinnati recovers and recovers another opponent's fumble at a different point in the game is worth 1x points (not 1.5x cumulative).
  5. Keep commentary to the bare minimum please.
  6. Predictions on how they will score are not required, and if you provide one they don't net you any bonus if you are right nor do they detract if you are wrong (so long as they do actually score by game rules).
  7. Try to be original yet still pick somebody you think has a realistic chance to score or cause a turnover.
  8. Only ONE (1) player entry per contestant, per week is allowed.  Unless your first player was on the roster at the start of the week and is put on IR/cut/traded before the next week, your first comment is your player, so pick carefully.
  9. Deadline for player entries each week is THIRTY (30) minutes prior to kickoff.

I got screwed on that lateral return being over returned. I was surprised that they thought it was clear enough to overturn.

This is his game, I’m hoping. I’m all for using Scott, but wish they’d keep him in space and quit with the automatic substitution on the second series while running the same plays – putting a guy ill-suited to run between the tackles in a position where he’s expected to run between the tackles successfully.

I imported it from Canal Street Chronicles, so the idea of importing it to other team’s blogs is nothing new. And I made some rule tweaks myself after I did so. So feel free to grab my version (or coldpizza’s original) if you want… or tweak either to your tastes… more power to ya.

Unofficial, provisional points update

Since FriarBob is unwell right now (hope you get better soon), I thought I’d post an unofficial points update.
I may have made some mistakes. If I’ve counted wrong or missed anyone out, then these points are subject to change.
I counted 44 legitimate entries, but no-one picked Cochart or Clements. Simpson and Caldwell were the only other two players to score any points. We had three picks for Simpson and one pick for Caldwell.

Well this has been an interesting, irritating, and overlong delay in my ability to return and get this all tabulated and calculated. I will not bore you with the details, let’s just leave it at I hope none of you ever truly understand how I’ve been feeling. I’m not yet 100% but I’m good enough to get at least some things done and I’m going to try to catch up now before this gets even more ridiculously overdue.

In week 9 we had extremely light scoring. None of the RBs scored on the ground, and old reliable A.J. Green unfortunately took the week off. This left many people out of luck in the scoring department. In fact, only four people scored, off of Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson stepping up when we needed them most. Colin Cochart and Nate Clements would also have scored points had anybody picked them, but nobody did. Thomas Howard also forced a fumble, but with it being recovered by the Titans its worthless to our purposes.

Also, while I’m at it, a quick shout-out to Aether for giving us a temporary/unofficial stat count so people at least had some clue where they were. Thanks man. Also, given that at least one person requested it, I’m hereby offering honorable mention to those who keep trying but keep failing to score points. supergrover seems to be one of the primarily unlucky people in this regard, given that he has no points at all. I’m not that far behind him, tho, as for several weeks now I consistenly pick somebody either one week before or one week after they score, but never on the week they do. Sigh. Well maybe our luck will turn around at some point in the future.

Here are the weekly points scored:

Throw the ball – 43 pts (Andre Caldwell)
rudebengal18 – 41 pts (Jerome Simpson)
Rocket_Man_G – 41 pts (Jerome Simpson)
Aether – 41 pts (Jerome Simpson)
