According to ProFootballFocus.com, Bengals No. 2 receiver Jerome Simpson has the second-worst catch percentage of any NFL wide receiver with more than 50 targets. Simpson, who will be the team's No. 1 receiver if rookie A.J. Green sits out on Sunday, has been targeted 56 times and has only 26 catches for a catch percentage of 46.4 percent.
These are just numbers that reinforce the fact that Simpson has been completely inconsistant so far in 2011. Entering his contract year, it was expected that Simpson would have his breakout year, especially after the last three games of the 2010 season.
Even through the first couple games of this season Simpson played well but it seems that after the news broke that he was under investigation for 8.5 pounds of marijuana that was discovered at his Northern Kentucky home before Week 2, he hasn't been consistant. He's been up one week and the next week he disappeared.
Simpson also has six drops on the season which is the worst among any receiver with a catch percentage as low as his.
The Bengals play one of the toughest defenses in the league on Sunday in Baltimore and they'll probably be going into the game without their No. 1 receiver. If Simpson doesn't have one of his up weekends, the Bengals could have a hard time moving the ball down the field through the air.
