Bengals Quarterback Andy Dalton Scores Perfect Rating In Third Quarter

BALTIMORE, MD - NOVEMBER 20: Quarterback Andy Dalton #14 of the Cincinnati Bengals throws against the Baltimore Ravens defenders in the third quarter at M&T Bank Stadium on November 20, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens won, 31-24. (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton did it again.

Even though the Bengals were losing 17-7 in the first half against the Cleveland Browns, Andy Dalton completed eight of 10 passes for 87 yards passing and a first half passer rating of 102.9. That included three scrambles out of the pocket that gained 16 yards as Andre Smith suffered perhaps one of his worst first halves of the season against defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard.

Then the third quarter came around and Andy Dalton was perfect -- and we don't mean that as obsessive Bengals fans that allows no unwarranted criticism against our boys.

Star-divide

Dalton completed seven of eight passes for 110 yards passing and a touchdown for a quarterback rating of 158.3. That's perfection by definition according to the passer rating system. During both possessions in the third quarter, the Bengals scored 10 points combined including four receptions of 15 yards or more.

Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham was a large part of Dalton's third quarter success, hauling in all three passes he was targeted for 45 yards receiving and a 22-yard touchdown the brought Cincinnati to within three points.

Dalton would go on to complete 21 of 31 passes for 270 yards passing, a touchdown for a passer rating of 105.6.

Superb second half

Almost the same as last week, but there were many self-inflicted wounds (especially close to half time).

But, it’s hard to believe there is a rookie QB delivering this sort of consistent level of performance on a weekly basis. The offense clearly believe in his leadership (and that of the OC).

yea, even tho it was an ugly win. There are a lot of things they can take from it

the best part, we are still in the thick of the playoff hunt and possibly win our division. But Dalton clearly learned from his last game and made very smart decisions. Some passes were under thrown but where catchable. Overall, he was on point and ced had a big game.

I'm still waiting to see a complete game by all 3 sides of the ball for 60 min

Hopefully it comes against the Steelers next week. If we can get Dunlap back along with having AJ and Adam Jones(who had a great day today!) we should be right there with Pitt till the end and hopefully can pull out a win to take control of the Wildcard game.

He had a couple drops from Simpson, too.

Plus the Green catch probably should have been another TD. You’d think that would have his rating up around Aaron Rodgers territory. He played a great game. If it wasn’t for the line problems in the first half and the somewhat suspect play calling in the 2nd, it could have been a bigger game numbers-wise.

Agree

Andre Smith was singled out in this article but the entire offensive line had a bad first half and Livings may have had a worse game then Smith overall.

agree about Livings

he was getting beat Ghiaciuc-style out there.

I couldn't help but wonder how Ryan Mallet would have performed back there......

in a game like this (considering by many reports that is who Mikey originally wanted to draft). He would have been a Palmer-esque statue back there taking a beating. Dalton’s mobility has single-handedly offset many of our lines problems. Man, I am sure am glad we took him over a less mobile quarterback.
