Geno Atkins Nominated For AFC Defensive Player Of The Week (That Terrell Suggs Won)

Stay connected for news and updates

Baltimore Ravens linebacker or defensive end (or whatever the hell you want to call his position) Terrell Suggs earned this week's AFC Defensive Player of the Week award after tying a career-high three quarterback sacks and a forced fumble during Baltimore's 16-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers during Thanksgiving night last Thursday.

Though he didn't win it (obviously), Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins was one of six nominated for the weekly award following his performance against the Cleveland Browns. Atkins posted three total tackles, a quarterback sack and two passes defensed in Cincinnati's 23-20 win over the Browns. Additionally Atkins' pressure in the fourth quarter led to a Reggie Nelson interception.

Other defensive players nominated includes Titans defensive end Dave Ball (two sacks, forced fumble and recovery), Texans defensive end Connor Barwin (four sacks), Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil (two sacks) and Raiders linebacker Kamerion Wimbley (one sack and interception).

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson (190 yards rushing on 23 carries) won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Oakland Raiders place kicker Sebastian Janikowski (six field goals) won the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
