We need to resign our own!!!
Watching the LSU vs Alabama game gave us all a great look at some pretty good prospects that could really help improve our team. Having said that, we still need to resign a bunch of our own.
Adam Jones - I want him back as well as taking another top corner in the draft. This could make our secondary very very strong as well as very deep.
Bobbie Williams - I'd like to give Bobbie another year even if we do take another guard high in the draft.
Reggie Nelson - I don't think we can afford to let him walk. Eventhough he's sometimes a little inconsistent, he's starting to turn into a real play maker and that's something we've desperately needed for a long time.
Jerome Simpson - Assuming all the legal issues are out of the way, I'd love to keep him as another true down field threat opposite AJ. It would also be a real shame if we lost him after we all waited so long for him to finally develop,
Anthony Collins - I think he's one of the most important free agents that we need to try and resign and he's been overlooked because he's not a starter. Having quality depth on oline is always important for a contending team so I feel it's important we get him resigned.
Frostee Rucker and Johnathon Fanene - I'm just putting these guys together because I really want us to keep our whole 8 man defensive line rotation in tact. Not to mention the fact, Frostee is really startng to come on and be a pretty dominant player.
Brandon Johnson and Manny Lawson - I doubt we are able to bring both back although that would be great. However, would love to get at least one back for LB depth, espeically since we are really not sure whats going on with Rivers and we have no idea how he will even play when he does return after being out so long.
I would let Andre Caldwell and Cedric Benson both walk after this season.
I'm pretty sure these are all the players who will be free agents in 2012, at least the ones who are worth mentioning (feel free to let me know if I missed anyone). It's quite a list and I hope we are able get some deals done with most of these guys before they can go out on the open market.

let see...
Here the players I wish they could keep
Adam Jones-i would like him back but he will most likely go where ever zimmer goes.
Reggie Nelson- probably resign, but may go where zimmer goes
Jerome Simpson- we will resign simpson, unless he is charged with something
Frostee Rucker and Johnathon Fanene- it will be hard to bring both back but hopefully they can figure something out
I just want to know whats going with rivers because i would rather extend his contract

I don't know why we're even talking about letting Nelson walk...
if he walks we’re screwed in the long run at safety. We brough him in to upgrade the position and if they were to let him go somewhere else I would be extremely disappointed.
yea but with Zimmer out the door next year possibly
we might not even get a chance to resign him

Zimm is still under contract for another year...
and if you look around at all the coaching jobs around the NFL that could open up next year I’m fairly certain Miami wants a big name coaching them like Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden, or maybe even Urban Meyer if they elect to give Sparano the axe after this season as they apparently are targeting someone with head coaching experience. St. Louis is struggling with Spagnuolo, a former DC, so I don’t think it’s likely that they hire another DC for HC again if they fire Spagnuolo. As for Indy, I could see them retaining Caldwell for another year if Manning comes back or even promoting Tressel to head coach if they don’t retain Caldwell before hiring Zimm seeing as Zim is a defensive guy and the Colts are a team that’s built around Peyton Manning and that offense with defense usually being their secondary focus. I feel like Zimm wouldn’t want to be put in a situation there where he might get upstaged by Manning as far as coaching the team goes since Manning’s been there a long time. So, I could see Zimm staying for at least another year, although I don’t know what college jobs are opening up but I don’t see Zimm leaving the NFL for the college ranks.
yea but how many people really wanted the bengals HC job
when marvin was signed… i think if you wante to be a coach in the NFL, kinda have to take what you can get…..

I doubt they bring A Collins back. They just don’t seem to like him as a starter, and somebody else will let him start (and pay him like one). They let our best Guard (Mathis) go, and i think they’l let Collins go also.
I’d be surprised if Simpson isn’t in jail next year. Therefore, they will have to bring Caldwell back…even if they draft a WR.
Adam Jones probably gets a good offer to be re-signed, as i can’t imagine them letting J Jo & Morgan Trent both go w/o any thoughts on keeping Jones.
I really hope Lawson & Nelson are here next year.
i think its safe to say
Jerome will not be going to jail anytime soon, unless he does something else to get locked up

Really want to see.......
the D Line rotation kept together as much as possible by re-signing Fanene and Rucker. Those guys have been the whole reason our D has improved as much as it has.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the most important keeper
Mike Zimmer anyone? He’ll almost certainly get a HC offer, or at least an interview. We should still try to keep him if at all possible.
You can't give Zimmer a long enough extension.
Give him a 20 year contract. The only way he should ever leave is if he gets a head coach offer, and if that happens we should seriously consider firing whoever we’ve got in that chair and matching the offer.
Disagree on Simpson, but the rest seem smart to me.
Bobbie probably wouldn’t take a 1-yr deal though.
He is a #2 receiver on pace for ~ 900 yards
why not keep him again?

Jones has to show he can stay healthy.
If he can get back on the field this year and stay off the injury report, there’s a chance he could be our #2 CB by the end of the season and maybe take the pressure off to use one of our top picks on a DB.
I like the list for the most part. Nelson’s a lock. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got an extension before the season’s over, maybe even in the next few weeks if he continues to play well (if he hadn’t dropped that first easy INT last week, he would have had 2 picks and a TD and probably would have a new contract today).
Simpson is a toss up. The legal problems are a legitimate concern, but they seem to have gone away somehow? If it turns out it’s a non-issue and he can prove to be a consistent #2 then I’d be for giving him a modest contract (3 years in the $4-5 million neighborhood), but I have a feeling he’ll want to test free agency because he’s not very bright. Whatever happens with him will help make a decision about Caldwell, but either way I think Caldwell is expendable. We’ll have Shipley back, Hawkins looks like a perfectly good #4, and I think we’ll draft another WR by the end of the 3rd round next year.
Bobbie and Collins…eh. Bobbie I’d be fine with on a 1-year deal just to maintain depth and help bring up Boling and whoever else we draft. He might go for that. He can still play, especially in the run game. Collins? Just draft another tackle somewhere in the mid-late rounds for depth. Collins is nothing special. Easily replaceable with a cheaper rookie.
I’d say you could make an argument for just about any of 20-22 guys on the defensive side getting extensions. Rucker has definitely earned it. It’ll be interesting to see if we can afford to keep the D-line intact with so many starter-caliber players, but this should be the last year of Geathers hogging up so much cap space. It’ll also be interesting to see what happens with Lawson/Howard/Rivers. Do we cut Rivers and use the money to extend Lawson and Howard and possible Johnson for depth? It would make sense. There’s certainly no fall-off in talent there and Rivers is going into a walk year anyway. You’re probably also looking at an off-season where Maualuga should be getting an extension.
The nice thing is they're way under the cap and rookies won't get paid as much next year.
There are certainly a lot of questionmarks on defense though, starting with Zimmer.
Zim still has another year on his contract
And if he doesn’t get a HC offer this year, we’ll give him another extension.
Collins..
..is the only guy that can back up both RT and LT spots and for that reason, he is very valuable to the team. However, he’ll likely get a chance to start somewhere else and will therefore be gone. Replacing him with a rookie is out of question imo.
Simpson needs to be resigned...
no question because I don’t wanna have to pass on Trent Richardson in the first round of the draft just to go after Blackmon because we need a legitimate number 2 opposite AJ. I think Richardson and Claiborne should be our first round picks if they’re available and I watched the Alabama-LSU game last night and I can tell you Claiborne and Richardson are both beasts, especially Claiborne, who is one of the tallest corners I’ve ever seen. I say keep Jones around but bring in Claiborne through the draft if he’s available.
There's no way we'd pass on Richardson for a receiver
The idea of Green-Blackmon is amazing, but there isn’t a chance we’d do pass on Richardson if he falls to us. Marvin loves his running backs and Richardson is one of the best power backs to come out in the draft in years. I’ve said it in other threads, even if we let Simpson walk, there are going to be a lot of options in FA to get a solid #2 receiver. Both Colston and Meachum are going to be free agents out of New Orleans next year, they won’t be able to keep both of them. Meachum especially would be a really reasonably priced option. Then draft a guy in the third round with top-end speed that you can develop into a Santonio Holmes type.
We should only get rid of Benson if we get Richardson
And with every CP start in Oakland, it seems more and more likely!

Richardon & Blackmon will be gone long before we draft
unless Oakland absolutely bombs the rest of the year, and their draft pick is a high pick in the top 10.
If that's the case...
then I’d say use free agency to pick up a number two if we elect to not bring back Simpson because I really can’t think of any other receivers coming out this year that I would wanna draft other than Blackmon. The only other receiver I might consider is Michael Floyd out of Notre Dame and he could be gone by the time we draft as well. While Oakland looks bad right now, I don’t see them losing out the rest of the year with McFadden coming back. I’d say free agency is a better option.
It's possible
They’re only one game ahead of the Broncos, and they don’t look that good at all.

Claiborne looked good.......
he had a great pick where he jumped a route and showed how quick he is for a guy that size. Impressive………
by The Van Buren Boys on Nov 7, 2011 12:48 PM EST up reply actions
Claiborne is who I want the most...
out of the first round other than Richardson. After the way Jennings played yesterday I almost would rather have Trent back and I think Claiborne could bring our CB position back to elite status when J-Joe was here. I say we keep Jones though and groom Claiborne behind him the same way we did with J-Joe behind Tory James and Deltha O’Neal.
I just hope they are working to sign these guys now
Morale is high. The team has bonded and everyone is finally positive about the outlook of the Bengals. The last thing MB needs to do is wait until the end of the season. Use the Bengals current success and change of attitude to lock these guys up. Don’t let them get a taste of FA, because if the Bengals continue their roll, some of these guys will get substantial offers elsewhere.
I would also talk to Marvin about an Assistant Head Coach title for Zimmer and look to lock him up at something approaching head coach money.
As for Bobbie, he has done a lot for Cincy and stuck by the Bengals and the fans. He is a true leader and I would offer him a 2 year deal. Even if he becomes a back-up in the 2nd year, his leadership and presence in the locker room would be worth every penny.
