On first down Matt Hasselbeck swings the football in the flats for Javon Ringer, which was deflected with Carlos Dunlap penetrating the line of scrimmage. Dunlap quickly recovered the football and ran into the endzone. Officials called it a touchdown, which would give the Bengals an 11-point lead if Mike Nugent converts the points after attempt. The Titans challenged the play and its reversed after it was judged a forward pass.

On first down Hasselbeck completed the pass to tight end Jared Cook, who picked up nine yards before Nate Clements stopped Cook's momentum. While holding him, the cornerback chucked the football out of Cook's hands and recovered the fumble to give Cincinnati the football back with under four minutes left in the game.
Benson picked up three yards on three runs, milking the clock as the team hit the two minute warning. Mike Nugent attempts and converts the 36-yard field goal to give Cincinnati a 24-17 lead.
