STEELERS WEEK!!!!!!

I don't even know where to start. If you had told me in August we'd be on top of the AFCN going int this stretch of games, facing a very beatable looking Steelers (and Ravens) team I'd cal you insane.

But here we are. We desperately need Adam Jones back, and I wouldn't be opposed to cutting Kelly Jennings to being back Morgan Trent as an emergency backup plan. Mike Wallace gives me nightmares. But I'm confident we can contain Mendenhall and at least get in Rapes-lesburger's face enough to cause a turnover or two, though the idea of sacking that lump has proven to be too much to ask for. But man...it's STEELERS WEEK! Gotta love it.

This will be a close game.

The Steelers are arrogant as ever and have zero respect for us. That’s great, cause it will work in our favor. Steel town is only 2-2 on the road. Of the Steelers 6 wins, 4 have came against the Colts 0-9, Seahawks 2-6, Jags 2-6, Cards 2-6. That is an INCREDIBLE record of 6 – 27. WOW. Their signature win is against the Titans (who we beat) and the Pats at 5-3. We beat the Bills who are 5-3 also.
Not afraid of this team at all. They are in for a rude awakening come Sunday.

by redrifle14 on Nov 7, 2011 2:36 AM EST reply actions

your imagination is wild redrifle

so what’s the record of the teams your team has beat?
How do you come up with the “zero respect for us” thing? I think you listen to too many athletes on ESPN. There is no way any Steeler player is going to look past a 6-2 team.
That “signature win” as you say would more likely be the Patriots, who were held to 200 yards.
So, in the same post, you say they have zero respect for “you”, then say you’re not afraid of them, and they are in for a rude awakening. Do you see the irony in that at all?

Our record is similar to Pitts

Of our 2 losses, one was to a better team, the 49ers. They just were better all around. The other loss to Denver was a 2pt fluke and shouldve been a win. I get your viewpoint. And yes, I believe the Steelers are looking past us despite the 6-2 record. Every team that we’ve faced this yr assumes they will defeat us based on our history and the fact we’re starting a rookie. As for the irony we can agree to disagree. I personally feel that Steeler Nation is particular gives us zero respect. As for the “rude awakening”, I was simply referring to the fact that we will have an equal team on the field Sunday, and I truly don’t believe that many Steelers or their fans will expect that.

by redrifle14 on Nov 8, 2011 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

do you know what ad baculum means?

look it up and see why your first few sentences mean nothing.
What would make you believe they are looking past you? Maybe looking forward to the bye for rest, but what would make you think that? This is a well coached team of veteran players. I think they learned a lesson about not taking a team lightly in week 1.
So you are mostly talking about the fans? Well, in fairness, you and a couple other people from here have come to our board talking shit in the last few days. What do you expect?

That doesn’t represent the whole fan base anyway. I personally didn’t look past any team we’ve played this year. Not even the Cardinals. Any team can win at any time, it’s the NFL, they are all getting paid.
Most of the people at our site though (the less abrasive ones) know damn well this is going to be a damn tough game. I’m not happy about this game at all. My only hope is that somehow this team learns to get a takeaway or two, and have Dalton running for his life all day. But nothing in recent history indicates that’s going to happen.
Anyway, here’s to a good game Sunday, hopefully an injury free one.

You think the Steelers took Baltimore lightly in week 1?

I mean it would help explain the result I guess, but I can’t for the life of me imagine why anyone would have taken Baltimore lightly at any point this season.

I don’t expect any team to take us lightly from here on out, but even if we were 0-8 the Steelers always get up for division games. I think everyone in this division does, mroe so than a lot of other divisions (maybe the NFC East). Even when teams have been bad (us and Cleveland) there are too many natural rivalries. Cleveland-Baltimore, Cincy-Cleveland, Pittsburgh-everyone.

by eric nyc on Nov 9, 2011 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

I saw that too

Not to dog on Frank too harsh, but that’s a cop out. No way did they look light at Baltimore. No way to you look light at ANY opening game. No way.

by supergrover on Nov 9, 2011 8:59 AM EST up reply actions

I kinda do yea

if you remember all the stupid comments coming from some Steelers players, then take in the fact that the only two times in the last 5 or so years that the Ravens won were when Ben wasn’t there, and the fact that the Steelers beat them twice on the way to the Super Bowl, yes I do believe they didn’t take them as seriously as they should.
I think they got crazy cocky. Yes, they lost Sunday, but that was more of a Steeler/Raven game wasn’t it?

Anyway

I understand your pain, the Bengals have been so bad for so long. But why get so cocky about it now? If teams or fans have “zero respect” it’s because it takes more than 8 games to get that.
Your team could easily finish the year 6-10, or they could finish 14-2. Why do you have to act like you’re on yahoo? These are two good football teams gearing up for a big game that will most likely be a good one.

Not only Wallace...

But Antonio Brown is the real deal also (and could be faster than Wallace.) Kelly Jennings was really pissing me off yesterday! The guy plays each receivers with a ten yard cushion, and still gets beat! We need Pacman’s speed to cover those guys.

Regardless – we’ll see how good this team is on Sunday. I can’t wait to get to PBS!!! WHO DEY!!!!!

Brown isn’t faster than Wallace. He’s just quicker, better at moving laterally.

I think id like to see Hawkins get more snaps, hes looked great honestly, and SImpson and Caldwell have been so inconsistent.

Tate has the ability

he has the nerve to take the kick without eyeballing the gunner

He needs to stop this incessant stutter step that he insists on doing. It’s maddening. All it does is give the kicking team an extra half step to lock in or advance, it fools nobody.

Was yelling at the tv yesterday....."Just take it and go!"

He seemed to do that against Seattle, but looked like back to his old tricks yesterday. Granted, there wasn’t quite as many wide lanes to run through, but think he still just froze like a deer in the headlights.

lets hope we dont get invaded by bandwagon haters this week.

many of the other team’s fans we’ve talked to this year have been awesome, yet, we know to expect a little bit of hate coming from a divisional rival fan base. cleveland has been the worst we’ve dealt with up until this point. and now its time for:

You guys should have no problem with them, they stink.

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang

by Luke on Nov 7, 2011 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Depends on who we get back.

If we still don’t have Rey, Gresh & Jones, it’s gonna be a lot tougher to keep up.
But if we have those guys back, then I think we can compete with them long enough to make a play in the 4th to give us an edge. The Colts & Jags both damn near beat this team.

by JoeskiBroski on Nov 7, 2011 6:58 PM EST reply actions

We are built

To destroy teams late in games. Both sides of the Ball wear the other team out and if we are within a touchdown or so at the start of the fourth theres a decent chance of puling out the win.

For this game, we need to shut down the pit run game and actualy have one of our own. I think Gresham is the most important to get back bbecause I think he (and lee??) can really keep the O moving against the pit LB’s

by TheVilified on Nov 8, 2011 1:19 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

"Shut down the pit run game"?

I am exponentially more worried about their pass game! I don’t think we have a true answer for their speed at WR. I agree with you that if we’re close late in the game we have a good chance of pulling out a W but they could pound us in the 1st half. Hopefully it doesn’t take a half for the defensive line to get pressure

by CBJKing on Nov 9, 2011 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

Since the offense has put its faith into the hands of Dalton, the team is 5-0.

The reins were dechained at 1-2, and he hasn’t looked back. No more sissy wissy stuff until we are down a TD or 2, we have been aggressive on offense until we take a lead.

Has paid huge dividends.

I did hear that he got up and acted like it was his ankle or something. He must’ve been slightly rung, but not so much as to make him completely unaware.

Wonder what he thinks about Ol’ Ben missing a couple games a while back, now.

I think he had the wherewithal to get up and pretend it was an ankle injury. We only had 4 WRs last week (Sanders was with family/injured and Battle was injured). I guess he hoped he’d be able to come back in.

I know most opposing fans hate him, but you can’t deny he is tough.

A Bengal’s Fan, A Steeler’s Fan and A Raven’s Fan…

Are on a hike, discussing the standings of the AFCN, when they find a genie in a bottle. The genie grants them each one wish.

The Ravens fan quickly announces he’s tired of Bengals and Steelers fans and never wants to see or hear from them again, he wishs the genie would put up a 50 foot concrete wall around baltimore so that no Bengals or Steelers fans could get in. The genie grants his wish and a 50 foot concrete wall appears around Baltimore.

The Bengals fan and Steelers fan stare at one another.
The Bengals fan asks the genie, “Would you fill it with water!”
The Steelers fan smiles, “and Put a lid on it!”
