It's Steelers Week: If You Can't Get Up For This, You Have No Business Being Here

This is Steelers week. Yes. That team that "won" the Super Bowl in 2005 through Carson Palmer's knee during the Wild Card game that year. Bill Cowher mocked Cincinnati's "Who Dey" signature after the game. T.J. Houshmandzadeh used the terrible towel to clean his shoes.

The rivalry was at one point on the cover of Sports Illustrated (right). The offseason after breaking Keith Rivers' jaw, Hines Ward customary blind-side blocks was banned because of this rivalry. The 9-7 Steelers failed to make the playoffs in 2009 because the Bengals swept them and similarly, the 2006 Bengals win the week 17 game against the Steelers, they're in that year's playoffs on New Year's Eve. The Steelers won in overtime.

According to TiqIQ tickets for this weekend's game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers has risen by 13% in the last week, up to $121. The game is sold out. This city has energy.

Bengals defensive tackle referenced poetry when describing the rivalry between the Bengals and Steelers:

“We hate them and they hate us."

Yep. It's Steelers week. If you can't get up for this, you're either not alive or you have no business being here.

Y'know what's sad about this rivalry?

Ever since the Ratbirds drafted Unibro, our nemesis has forgotten about us. We hate them. They look at us like tiny flies trying to act like dragons. I can’t find any more of a reason to hate them than that snobbish tendency to overlook us. You fell to Baltimore, Pittsburgh. Get ready to fall to we lowly Bengals. It’s time to rekindle that hatred for us.

I even hate the colors black and gold.........

I believe it was in that same article from SI that Hines Ward said something to the effect of……“Rivalry? That is like the bug saying it has a rivalry with the windshield.” I don’t just hope we win, but I would love a 2 score plus W at home. The Steelers aren’t going to give us any respect, so we just need to take it from them.

So I've never told you guys this

But my GF (we live together) is a “big” Steeler fan. “big” meaning I know 4 times as much about them as she does, not her physical size. She’s already mad at me b/c immediately after they lost to the Ravens I told her I’d be sleeping in the guest room all week (can’t chance bad mojo sleeping w/a steeler) b/c it’s Steelers Week. She’s also none too thrilled that I’ve decided to wake up to my ipod absolutely blasting “Welcome to the Jungle” every morning this week (instead of just Sunday morning). Another bit of fun I’m having is immediately taking my work clothes off when i get home and rotating through my Bengals jerseys (1 per night) and other Bengals related clothing.

If anyone has more suggestions that I can use against her this week, please feel free to share and I will impliment accordingly.

You can dump her

Just kidding. I’m impressed though – she better be hot, because I can’t even be around Steelers fans when they play the Bengals. I have a female friend (not hot) who is a major bandwagoner. You know, one of those girls who probably just likes their colors and thinks it’s hip to root for them. I told her no way are we watching this game together. Steelers to me represent the residue that crap leaves behind – I can’t stand them, the bs love they get from everyone, and especially can’t stand anything about them during Steelers-Bengals week.

Take a shit and after each sploosh say “Fuck you HINES!” “Fuck you Ben!” “Fuck you Wallace!!”

But blackout has already gained momentum so we may as well ride with it. And the Bengals will be in the black hits. The point is our team wants us to get into the game so..

1983 opening game, as I recall...

was vs. the Los Angeles in Cincy.
It was about 70~75F at Riverfront Stadium

It was a run by Kenny King on 3rd and short.
He got about 2 or 3 yards.
I think they had to punt after that?

Quiz you? ok...

how is Cameron Heyward doing?

by ephram on Nov 8, 2011 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

He's doing more than you would expect for a rookie

Rookies barely ever get PT on our defense, but with the injuries we had a DL early on he got some snaps. His motor is unbelievable and he plays with an attitude that I love. I’m sure you know he came out of college touted as a good run stopper, but it’s his pass rush that’s been quite impressive. I think he could end up being a better player than Ziggy Hood.
