NFL Releases Updated Pro Bowl Results: Movie Star Michael Oher Holding Onto Lead For AFC Tackles

ATLANTA, GA - SEPTEMBER 01: Michael Oher #74 of the Baltimore Ravens watches from the bench against the Atlanta Falcons at Georgia Dome on September 1, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Two weeks ago the Cincinnati Bengals, ranked sixth in the AFC and vying for the conference's second wild card spot, which could improve to the first wild card spot after this Sunday, didn't feature any top vote-getters when the league released the updated Pro Bowl votes.

Granted the only player that had a realistic shot of winning the vote was offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth. However, for some reason, a movie about Michael Oher pushed him as the top vote-getter even though last year, a year after the movie was released, Oher never benefited from the movie with Whitworth winning the overall vote.

Then again perhaps that's a good thing. After winning the fan vote last year, Whitworth was completely shutout of the all-star game. That being said the league released their updated Pro Bowl numbers on Thursday and the Bengals are still without an impressionable showing.

anybody else feel that people who vote just vote for who’s just the more popular player instead of actual talent? im not saying these guys arent great players but some dont deserve it ahead of others.

Yep

Most popular and the players on their favorite team or the players in the biggest markets.

Fan voting is only a portion of it though I believe.

For now, this isn't all bad...

This should keep our guys hungry to prove a point. Stay focused – worry about beating the Steelers and not about receiving votes to the pro bowl. We all know it means absolutely nothing anyways. Besides, the Bengals have hardly been on TV so many fans don’t even know who our players are…the important thing is that they’ll know in February!!!

Just saw this SportsNation poll on ESPN

Which player should be named Off Rookie of the Year: Dalton, Green, or Newton… 2 Bengals as possibilities…. Thank you ESPN

I don't think you can make a real argument right now that Gresham is better than Gronkowski.

Gronk is the best tight end in the game right now and is a freak athlete and match up nightmare. I agree if you’re saying Gresham is being under-utilized so far in the Bengals offense, but you can’t really compare the two right now.

Gronk is the best all around TE. Not the best athlete at TE. That would be Jimmy Graham.

by Cry on Dec 1, 2011 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed.

I said he is a freak athlete, not the best athlete. Full disclosure: I voted for Graham for the NFC TE.

Too bad Peerman isn't on the ballot

He deserves to be considered for the ST slot. The man’s a stud

Wes Welker

wow….I am a white guy so I can say this…..Welker is good (for a white guy)…but I think that he is a product of his system and that you can’t tell me that Welker is better than AJ GREEN……sorry… I just flat out refuse to hear it……

Wes has the build to work the short game. He is shorter and lower to the ground than most defenders and he is able to get in and out of his cuts on point. That is why is a lot of 3 yrd outs turn into touch downs because he turn on the dime and into the endzone.

Freeney

Is this just name recognition….he hasn’t done jack this year…..I dont care how good he has been in previous years….

Same can be said of Troy P. He is in no way having a Pro Bowl season. Name regognition and big market teams. It’s a joke really. That is why noone cares to even watch it most of the time. I know I can’t tell you last time I did.

Mike and Mike on ESPN

Were speaking about the Bengals a few times. They even had Anthony Munoz on. Anyway, Greenberg mentioned that Dalton should probably be voted in as the third QB and Golic basically agreed. Mark Schlereth was on a later time and said that Dalton would be his OROY ahead of Cam. He said he was old school and still believes QB’s like Dalton are the ones that have a better chance to win a Super Bowl

With Matt Schaub injured who are the AFC QB’s for the Pro Bowl? The problem is that a lot of fans and people in the NFL probably won’t vote for Dalton even though he is probably the right selection as the #3 QB.

Just thought it was interesting that Dalton is generating national media attention for the Pro Bowl.

Well this is flat-out bullshit.

"It’s time people started realizing just how good a player Carlos Dunlap already is, and that starts with the Bengals. They gave him a season-high 58 snaps and what was the result? Carnage on the right side of the Seattle line." -Pro Football Focus
