Second-Half Open Thread: Bengals Lead Texans 16-3

The Texans have lost to every team that has scored more than 14 points against them this year. The Bengals scored 16 in the first half thanks to Cedric Benson's 92 yards, Reggie Nelson's interception, Rey Maualuga's forced fumble and recovery, Andy Dalton's touchdown pass to Jerome Simpson and three field goals from Mike Nugent.

If the Bengals continue to play like they did in the first half throughout the rest of the game, there's no reason to think that they won't keep their playoff hopes alive with a win in Week 14.

A double-digit win would be fantastic.

I’m always happy with a win in any form, but it’s great to destroy a team. I’d like to see us turn one into a joke by the fourth quarter.

Time for a long, extended TD drive.

Chew seven minutes off the clock and score. That would really take the life out of them.

I was wondering how Dalton couldn't make some big drives

He just takes care of the ball and make some safe throws. Then, comes this 97-yard drive. I’m awful, I kno.

by Dorey15 on Dec 11, 2011 2:43 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, it was bad.

Ced got blown up in the backfield before there was even time for the D to realize it was play action, and by the time Dalton looked downfield the pocket had collapsed to the point where he had zero time.

you can tell when gruden has the reigns and when marvin takes them away once the bengals are trying to “hold” onto a win. the offense transforms into what it looked like with brat here.

His 16yd scramble

allowed that drive to continue. I don’t blame the Defense as much as the offensive play calling on the bengals last drive. It was a great game. The Bengals still have a chance at a wild card-they will just need to win out and have the Jets collapse.

also, Benson blows.. Reggie Nelson not falling on the football and giving the ball back really killed us…

by pedro_oliveira on Dec 11, 2011 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

we only gave up 20 points to a team while the offense couldn't sustain any drives for an entire half

the defense played pretty well minus covering tightends when it mattered. i’d say the loss is on lewis because he never has the mentality of putting teams away. he goes so conservative with a lead, and it always comes back to haunt him.

no shit

cant defend against Yates… would get raped by Big Ben (just like last week)

by pedro_oliveira on Dec 11, 2011 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

What?

Because he didn’t throw for 200 yds in a blowout where he didn’t have to? Look at his stat line, to say he didn’t play well is totally inaccurate.

Benson rushing for -1 yard in the second half

really helped… I seriously hope this is his last year with the bengals

In any other NFL town

Mediocre Marvin would have been fired already… Lord knows how long he’ll still be here

I feel sick, angry, sad.......

I have a huge pharmacotherapy final tomorrow and now I’m gonna be thinking about one thing for the rest of the night……..This falls right into line with the Denver loss a few years ago….I hate that this team does this to me

not as bad in my opinion

you're not a bandwagon jumper

there are no Bengals fans left who are bandwagon jumpers after 320 opportunities to jump on some other bandwagons…

after watching you today

please don’t come back. bad enough how it treats you, but then you shit all over the thread too

I get blowing it off after the loss

I don’t get being negative through large chunks of the game. (not citing just you on that)

no.

I mean the whole WAAH WOAH IS ME! IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD! barrage of posts that spring up when something doesn’t go right.

you're hooked

we all are cause it’s insane to root for a team with two whole decades since anything big happened.

Occam

I completely agree, it’s really fun to root for the underdog when they win though.

marvins post game press conference

It was a tough loss for our team. I have to give credit to the Texans organization. We werent prepared at the last 2 minutes of the game. We did some good things and some bad things. We need to make more plays both offense and defense. Our players will go back to the drawing board and be ready next week. I felt we got some pressure on the QB but we need to tackle better. We need to be able to score touchdowns than field goals. And that was the deciding factor in todays game.

Reporter: Marvin, what are your thoughts about brandon tate?

ML: Brandon tate did some things good but allowed us to be backed up on our 2 yard line.

Reporter: Marvin, Any chance you put another person on punt and kick returns.

ML: No our team didnt play a team effort and Tate is only one person. I feel tate is very good at the job he does.

Too many time, especially on the last drive

our D guys blew right past the quarterback. Surprised he didn’t get another 15 yard run

Is delusional…Tate really is horrible

For what its worth.....I hate it when fans from other teams come in here to our open threads

I know some of you think they are just making conversation but they are not. They know exactly what they are doing and there is no reason for them to do it.

stop being a pussy about it.

We have worse trolls that come here claiming to be Bengals fans.

That texan guy you were ragging on said nothing provocative. He probably made 10 posts, none worth arguing over.

i agree with you on that

by Mr.Blanket on Dec 11, 2011 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

You know what the worst part of us losing is?

That we turn on each other. Instead of focusing on what the Bengals need to do to improve, we instead turn on each other and start arguing. I don’t know if I am the only one that feels that way but I think we need to improve on that.

by Thabirdie on Dec 11, 2011 4:33 PM EST reply actions

I have always agreed with that.....

part of the reason for my earlier post (which by the way didn’t think warranted me being called a pussy…thanks though that really helps me not be defensive). People come in here and whether they try to or not…….piss people off and cause unnecessary tension and anger.

by Toledoray7 on Dec 11, 2011 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

the only way i see that being solved

is by winning. But thats just a guess.

well time to start my mock draft early again for another year

overall, this team did better than expected this year even though there are 3 games left in the season. I say we still should rise to the occasion and prove the world that we can still make the playoffs. But our schedule will get tougher next year. A lot of talent needs to be addressed on this team. And us fans already know which areas. But i hope the coaching staff knows these areas as well. Hopefully and indoor practice facility, scouts and an improved medical staff would help us take us where we need to be. I just hope the coaching staff gets improved as well. And im referring to the likes of Paul Alexander, Darrin Simmons and our RB coach.

hate to say it

but our last few losses makes our 6-2 record a fluke in the nfl and thats probably why analyst never really pay attention to this team. Hard not to blame them but its like they know reality and know whats really going on in this organization.

that fumble on the fumble recovery came back to bite us in the arse

among other things…but if we jus thelp onto the ball there we woulda been 2 scores up and in supreme control of the game. again, one of many mistakes that pretty much eliminated us from playoff contention. SMH
