Winner will be annouced: "Around the Jungle" game
I thought I should try something new on here and I want to play a game. Something you would see on ESPN or any sports show, a sports debate forum with topics. I will ask a question, up to ten, and the first 5 people to respond with their answers will get points based on their points that they made. Feel free to add points to anyone's comments if you think someone deserves it (be reasonable). The person who scores the most points will get a prize! ( as soon as I think of one)
I would like the winner to be able to post something on the main page, like a quick fan shot on the topic they would like to talk about, sort of like "around the horn". Please Josh make it happen, I think this game could be a lot of fun!
The game will consist of 10 rounds, the first 5 people to answer first will get points based on thier answers.
Once the round is over, no more points will be awarded.
Anyone can "rec" or + 1 to add points to the person's response.
And it doesn't have to be the same 5 people answering the questions, just the first 5 who answers each round will be awarded points.
Rules may change as this game develops, but lets see how this works out!
Scores after a few days!
The response has been great and Im getting a better idea of what questions to ask.

Question one
IF Marvin get this team to the playoffs, will he be back next year or do we have to win at least one playoff game for Marvin to comeback or sign a contract extension?
AMAS
IMO this is a brand new team and Marvin's first year coaching it
This team was expected to be the worst in the league and look what Marvin has been able to do with it. I think he’s back next (and think he should be back next year) based on this, playoffs or not.
by Oregonbengalsfan on Dec 14, 2011 3:50 PM EST up reply actions
Marvin should be back next year
If the Bengals draft CB/OG in the first round and get all players healthy for next year, and Marvin doesn’t win one playoff game, he should be fired after that.
Marvin is signed for two years
If Mike doesn’t come through with the practice facility for sure, and maybe some other demands Marv will walk after that. No, Marvin is not on the hotseat and will return for next season, playoffs notwithstanding.
yes he will be back- he's already signed for next year
if we make the playoffs, he could very well win coach of the year again.
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
If Marvin wins a playoff game, it means that Mike Brown has spontaneously combusted
and PBS would be overrun with Bengals fans.

Question Two
Out of this year’s rookie class, which QB will most likely win a super bowl first?
AMAS
Andy Dalton
Dalton has a better team around him (better defense and offense than other rookie QBs):
Newton is a one man show with a Steve Smith on the decline, no big play receivers besides Smith, and a bad defense.
Ponder had to be benched for Joe Webb last week.
Locker has a chance to be challenge Dalton for this because the Titans are actually a pretty decent team with an average D/ST and some big threat receivers.
Mallett has to sit behind Brady, and the Pats defense is not that good this year.

TJ Yates
The only reason I say this is because he really has a shot this year. That whole entire Texans team believes in him and have no doubt that he can lead them. But if he doesn’t do it this year then I’ll have to say Dalton because he has the best supporting cast of all of the rookies.
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
C'mon guys this is easy:
Tyrod Taylor, Baltimore. He’s in a great position to get a ring at this point.

I'll take the under
because I think they will come out running in this game, which is the right game plan to have against this team. But there is no doubt in my mind that Dalton could throw for 3 or 4 TD’s against the Rams depleted secondary if they decided to come out shootin’.

Under
He’ll have 2 and we’ll score 2 on the ground as well. I can see us coming out and pounding the rock early to set up play action, and taking a few long shots downfield early. We’ll go up 14-3 or 17-3 before halftime, get the ball after the half and pound the rock down their throats
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
Under
If the secondary doesn’t return at least 2 picks for TDs against Kellen Clemens and have this game wrapped up by the second quarter, I’d be shocked and amazed. They might pull Dalton by the fourth quarter.

Question Four
If the season were to end this week, which two teams will make it to the Super Bowl?
AMAS
Green Bay and Baltimore
Green Bay is obvious and Baltimore is going to be tough to beat
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
surprise picks
I am looking at San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
SF — just enough defense to keep opponents under control and the offense is sporadic yet capable of a big play at any snap.
PIT — three road games in playoffs — no problem. they have done it before and they will gtet their usual breaks to go their way every time.
Just a different thought.

Green Bay and New England
Both teams are really good.
as much as i hate to admit it
right now it looks like GB and Balt.
I really hope someone else other than NE, Pitt, or Balt represents the AFC, but honestly right now i don’t see anyone else that can….
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
The Colts have pretty much already won the Andrew Luck super bowl sweepstakes
And I’ll give the Vikings an outside shot from the AFC.
Wait….there’s another Super Bowl being played this year?

Answer 3a
Tim Tebow. Not the Broncos. Just Tim Tebow.
by Animal_Like_Football on Dec 17, 2011 12:25 PM EST up reply actions
No, Palmer doesn't throw INTs.
His receivers just run the wrong routes.
by Animal_Like_Football on Dec 17, 2011 12:26 PM EST up reply actions
Manning
He was the whole team. Their defense is awful and can not stop anyone and the offense was tailor made for Peyton. Tebow on the other hand wins because he has an awesome defense and a really good kicker.
AMAS
agreed
except for the ‘tailor made for Peyton’ line. I hear that and completely disagree. Plug Peyton into any offense in the league and he’ll do what he does.
I'll take the Tebow stance
obviously manning has meant nothing to the Colts this year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMK9FKMG3Nc the Tebow rap
Manning
At least Denver’s defense is pretty good; they won a few games with Orton at QB, meanwhile, the Colts are 0-13 without Manning.
right now i'd say its a draw
but for completely obvious reasons.
Peyton was clearly the engine that made that team run, on top of his play- it was the level of confidence the whole team had when he was under center…now they just look morally defeated.
Conversly- it is the same exact thing w/Tebow, but minus the actually QB play. His results and uncanny ability to squeek out wins at the end of games has that team confident and believing that not only can they win w/Timmy, but they should win w/Timmy…..
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
Tebow does nothing but poop out wins in the morning.
But on the other hand, Manning has got to be the most highly paid QB coach in the league right now (though if you ask me, they ought to fire him … he hasn’t gotten anything out of the QBs in Indy)

Question 7
Big Ben: Dumb as a box of rocks or tough son of a b*tch for coming back into the game against the Browns?
AMAS
Can I say both?
If you’re gonna be dumb you gotta be tough.

Tough SOB
I don’t think any other QB in the NFL could come back in after an injury like that (except maybe Tim Tebow with Jesus on his side) and still be decent throwing the ball.
real tough guys don't constantly tell people how tough they are
Ben is tough…but i still think he’s the Dwyane Wade of the NFL….overplaying his injuries every chance he gets b/c he wants that tough guy image.
It came out he only has a grade 1 sprain on the ankle…..and afterwards he said it felt like he had a complete fracture——just sayin
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
IMO you have to be pretty tough and really dumb
To even play football. But Ben is probably one of the toughest cats in the game today. Just when you think he’s finally gonna sit out BAM he throws a TD. But he’ll look dumb in the long run when all of the beatings he has taken finally catch up to him.
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
Funny you ask that
Listen to the Football Today Podcast last week and both Matt Williamson and Ross Tucker have inside sources that say Big Ben likes to ham up his injuries for the camera.
So I’ll go with option “C” : Drama Queen.

Question 8
Which position, from the Lewis era drafts, have been the most productive or have been the most rewarding? You can only pick one!
AMAS
DE for sure
I want to say DL as a whole, but have to pick one position. He has done a great job picking up talent, and they have been producing (when healthy).

Wide reciever
If you take into account this being Romes first year as a starter, and the probability that it has distracted him, you add in an A.J. and an Ocho and I think you have slam dunk.
oh sorry for not mentioning J Ship.
he hasn’t played this year much. but he’s a top producer as well.
DT
Peko, Geno, Sims, enough said. DE is 2nd, and would be 1st for me if Dunlap could stay healthy.
LG - I'm looking at you Nate Livings
This position has clearly produced the most headaches and no position on the team has awarded opposing defenses more quarterback sacks than the LG position.

The Super Bowl
All the big cities like New York, Boston, LA, etc. will get the Olympics to show those cities off to the world; the US doesn’t want to show another city like Cincy off to the world.
Super Bowl within 5 years.
are we talking Hosting or winning the superbowl
b/c we’re never hosting…superbowl or olympics
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
I would have picked the special olympics
but Ocho just left for New England (Those guys win everything).

Question 10
Is the NFL becoming more and more of a glorified “touch” football league with the new rules coming out each year on hitting and concussions?
AMAS
Somewhat
while football will always and forever be a violent sport, the league must take the long term health of its players, specifically brain injuries, in to account “The league has to protect itself from litigation by former players”"- Stephen A Jackson. " The NFL has to legislate to protect the QB because bad quarterback play is bad for the league" —someone on ESPN. No not quite touch football.

The problem, according to Frank Minnifield, formerly of the Browns
is that the protective gear is better for hitting than it is for taking a hit. His proposed solution? Get rid of face masks. The game would return to being a strategic battle and injuries will drop big time. Get rid of forearm pads and make all players wear QB shoulder pads. The joint areas of the knees, shoulders and neck are still very vulnerable and subject to great impact from equipment that protects the hitter but not the hitee. The violent impacts across the middle would become a thing of the past and DB & Safeties would actually have to arm tackle again. You know, actually play the game of football the way it was designed to be played.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
+1
you can go one of two ways. Go back to gear that protects against accidental injury without providing a means for doing things humans can’t otherwise do (dive headfirst into someone else’s head, for example) or else use gear designed to protect against those kinds of hits. Like you said, the gear used now is made to allow you to hit, not to protect you from a hit.
I promise you Harrison would not have put his facemask into Colt's if it weren't there
Just imagint that hit if Colt coulld wear a facemask and Harrison couldn’t.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
It is possible that he would. But, he wouldn't do it twice.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Yes But necessarily I think
You look back at the players that played in the 70’s and 80’s and they are not in good shape. I think Roger is really looking out for the future health of the players. Do I like it…No. Is it necessary……Yes.
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
they are just posturing and playing the "player safety" card
b/c of the lawsuits currently going w/the NFL wrapped up in the middle. They don’t want to have to pay these guys later in life b/c of the physical damage their bodies take….they don’t care about player safety unless your a start QB. This is nothign more than a pre-emptive measure to protect them from future lawsuits…if it wasn’t they would make safer equipment (specifically helmets) mandatory for players to wear.
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
just 1 more thing that really gets to me
protecting the QB and “defensless” WR’s from helmet to helmet shots….but RB’s are ‘open season’ all year long and you can go Head to Head on them ALL you want…..ya “player safety huh Roger”
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
Well, there is a slight difference in the two types of positions.
WRs and QBs can have their attention elsewhere and must expose themselves performing the act of catching and throwing. The RB generally expects and can prepare himself for these kinds of hits. I will admit that the RB is also vulnerable but less so than WRs and QBs.I have seen head to head calls involving RBs though.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Football (American) = Football (European)
That is, with the new rules in place Football is now the same game as soccer. I realized this after watching a game for 30 min before I figured out that Manchester United was not a new team in the AFC East.
