Andre Caldwell could miss the rest of the season with a nagging "groin/abdominal" injury that's affected him since training camp earlier this year. Beat writer Geoff Hobson at Bengals.com writes that there are "plans to examine him for a potential sports hernia." Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that he's already seen a specialist:
Caldwell visited a specialist in Tennessee yesterday about the groin/abdominal injury that has plagued him. He is not practicing today
If Caldwell misses the rest of the season, he will have registered 37 receptions, second highest in his career with 317 yards receiving -- which is only third-highest and lowest since his rookie season with only 78 yards.
Caldwell is entering the final year under contract, though it wouldn't be surprising if the team brought "Bubba" back for a one-year cheap deal that would give the team insurance and competition during training camp. And with the issues that are still facing Jerome Simpson, along with his sporadic issues of production as the team's number two receiver, one could conjecture that Caldwell has a better chance of returning than Simpson.
