Maualuga to the middle.....

Just though i would give a heads up. I read on rotoworld.com, per Marvin Lewis, if Dhani Jones doesn't return they are moving Rey to the middle and Brandon Johnson to Strong side. I think that it will give Brandon Johnson more of a reason to stay with us. I think he is a great linebacker and deserves to start. We will also get to see how Rey does at his natural position. I personally like the move if it happens. I think this is what we have been waiting for ever since Rey got here. What do you think about that?

I like it.

I’m a strong believer that Maualuga will be better if moved to MLB, where he played his whole life until he came to us. I really like Dhani but his glory days are long gone and it’s time to part ways with him.

I think he's a much better playmaker than dhani...

even if he’s not as smart. My feeling is that the more he’s around the ball the better.

The best part may be..

Brandon Johnson getting on the field on a regular basis.

Give pizza chants.

BJ is great.

Love that height he has and he’s always making plays. Hope he stays.

I'm still not sold that Rey has the smarts

to pull off everything that goes with playing Mike but he at least deserves a shot at it- and Muckelroy is waiting in the wings should it be too much for him. Also, getting Johnson out there on a regular basis is something I’ve been ranting about for a long time. The guy just makes plays. Assuming all that’s true and happens, all that’s left is to grab another stud who plays Will to either light a fire under Rivers’ ass or just outright replace him. At this point, Keith’s really no more than a good sub.

We could take Von miller at #4 if they’re really serious about this move.

Size is definitely a concern. I’m not quite sure he would fit the mold of a Zimmer OLB, plus it would be a transition and our coaches have not been the best at that in the past. Besides, he will wow at the combine and be taken far too early for our consideration. You take the chance and maybe you get a Elvis Dumervil. But maybe you don’t. We just have more pressing concerns.

Think about this....

Von miller, Rey Rey, and Brandon Johnson on the field at the same time. Sounds sexy.

I posted that a month ago...

If Peterson or Fairley are gone, wonder if Von Miller would be called by the Bengals at #4… the so-called experts on this site killed me for posting it…but it makes sense, Rivers is a good back-up at best, with Dunlap, Atkins, Sims, MJ, then the 3 you listed there are finally some playmakers on defense….. ROUND 2 look at safety

Could also take a shot at Casey Matthews in the later rounds

I keep seeing Von Miller going to the Bills at #3 but both their owner and coach seem to be smitten by Cam Newton.

I freaking love this idea

Casey Matthews is a friggin gamer. Dude has a serious motor, and he gets the game. Like Clay, he doesn’t have the measurables all around, but he can make plays. As a MLB, he could be really effective as a third or fourth round pick.

I think Casey plays outside

I’m thinking let him compete with Rivers for the weak-side.

by IgnatiusJReilly on Feb 26, 2011 1:02 AM EST up reply actions

No, he's an ILB

He projects best as a 3-4 ILB, but he can definitely play 4-3 MLB. His best asset as a player is his noggin, so I’d put him in the middle.

100% on the Casey Matthews bandwagon, it runs in the family and dude is a playmaker for sure

We need more hair at linebacker anyways

and Keith Rivers as a backup?

I wouldn’t be 100% opposed, I’m just asking.

that's sort of the hypothesis

just because he really leaves a lot to be desired as a starter. Now, he may be making too much money to be a back-up but, then, we’re just spitballin’.

by IgnatiusJReilly on Feb 26, 2011 1:03 AM EST up reply actions

Maybe we could trade him.

Someone in the league still has to see potential in him.

Not crazy about this

I think Rivers will fit the scheme much better with improved defensive line play, which we’re starting to see already. Rivers is not a playmaker, but he can finish tackles and be disruptive in the short passing game. Since he’s not a blitzer, he couldn’t help much when our biggest problem was pass rushing.

Not sure I’m sold on him as a run spotter. When he’s there, he makes the play. But how often is he right there on a run play?

what has he done?

Other than getting his jaw broken he has not done anything special… Expeted more from a #9 overall pick, hasnt shown it to me… My first choice this year is Peterson, think he can play safety for us

keith rivers

I think he’s a good linebacker, just not flashy. If he was the 25th pick in the draft, not the 9th, people would be happy with his production. He’s not a huge playmaker, but he does his job.

Rivers

I feel when Rey moves to Mike, we will see a different player in Keith Rivers.
