Greg McElroy aces 27-26-60 after Wonderlic leaks, is he the future?

Some of you may remember the posts here about the 27-26-60 method for drafting a QB. For whatever reason I cannot find that particular post so I'll explain myself.

Here is the gist of it: If an NFL prospect scores at least a 26 on the Wonderlic test, starts at least 27 games in his college career and completes at least 60 percent of his passes, there's a good chance he will succeed at the NFL level.

McElroy started in 2009 and 2010, and saw action in 8 games in 07 and 08. His career completion percentage was %66.3. He threw 39 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions in his 4 years at Alabama. He hasn't posted less than a 140.5 QB rating in any year he played, and that was the year he won a National Championship. In his senior campaign, he had a 70.9 completion percentage. The only other question was what his Wonderlic would be, but as a well spoken marketing major it was assumed he would pass.

Well, there are reports that McElroy has scored a 48 out of 50 on his Wonderlic. There is also some debate but a leak should always be taken with a grain of salt to begin with. If his actual score is anywhere near a 48, he blows away the 26 point requirement of the 27-26-60.

The only reason he didn't pass the Parcells method (which I did find the article for) was because he started only 2 years. He has amazing accuracy and he's a great game manager who commands the respect of his locker room. The only knocks on him were his average QB height (6-2) and his career YPA of 8.6. His adjusted yards per passing attempt, (pass yards + 20*(pass TD) - 45*(interceptions thrown))/(passing attempts), was 9.2 for his career and 10.1 in 2010.

It's my opinion that McElroy has an upside somewhere in the neighborhood of Tom Brady. He'd have to fall into the right situation to realize that potential but Jay Gruden's signature QB might just be that situation. He has all the tools for the WCO and he'll fall deep into the late rounds, especially since he wasn't able to throw at the combine due to a broken hand. Remember Colt McCoy, the man up in the mistake by the lake, also missed the combine due to injury.

He can manage all of Jay's complex packages and take the top off when he's called upon. Update: Better video thanks to Joe27 in the comments. 2009 SEC Championship, this video does a bit better job showcasing his arm.

So, what do you guys think? Personally I would LOVE to see the competition between McElroy and LeFevour. The battle of the two capital letter last name, late round, long shots. These kids would work hard to earn a starting spot in the NFL. And they would battle. The team would be better for it. Too bad it'll never happen.
