Shaun Rogers Dumped By The Browns... Should We?
viachzupnextinsports.files.wordpress.com
Normally I wouldn't write a post about something that has to do with another team. This however has an interesting twist. Prior to being traded to the Browns, the Bengals we were in the midst of trading to pick up Rogers.
Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is being traded but not to the team that was first scheduled to acquire him.
After a deal fell through that sent Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals for a third-round and fifth-round pick, the Lions rebounded by sending Rogers to Cleveland in exchange for a third-round choice and cornerback Leigh Bodden.
Per John Clayton ESPN
Now I'd look for the Bengals to be highly interested in obtaining Rogers. They were already interested, he has a longer rap sheet, they don't have to give up anything to get him, and he’d come at a cheap price. Tell me this isn’t right up Mikey Boys Alley?

It's Shaun Rogers (not Rodgers)
in addition to being a lockerroom cancer and lazy asshole who’s been released by both of his previous teams, he’s also 31 years old.
NO

Wutcha talking bout Willis? :-)
I think he’d be alright for depth. But I’m also kind of worn out by the constant signing of bad character, selfish guys.
the only depth he'll provide is more ass on the bench

You think?
I thought that you didn’t like Peko? You think that Rogers wouldn’t beat out Peko, Sims or Tank for a starting role? I personally think that Sims may be our best DT right now.

I never said I didn't like Peko
he’s an adequate DT, but I feel he’s overrated. And I might even agree with you on Sims. I just don’t want Rogers with all the crap and laziness he brings. I’d rather spend a roster spot on a young prospect (hopefully fairley).

Bad character and selfish aren't the same.
“Selfish” is a subset of “bad character.” We have tons of bad character guys, but they sort of shape up in the environment; this team has thrived on players who have something to prove (which I think is a big reason for Palmer’s souring outlook on the organization, but that’s for a separate longer post where I can flesh out my reasoning).
Only a few of the bad character guys are selfish. TO obviously, and Ocho often seems that way too. Laziness is another subset of bad character; it’s just as toxic as selfishness, but I think it’s easier to remove (see Carlos Dunlap). This is what I hope Gruden can do for Andre Smith, and what I think Zimmer could do for Rogers.
Rogers isn’t selfish; he’s kind of a screw-up who would really benefit from the Bengals’ team environment. If they can get him working, he’ll be a force, and he could relieve one of the team’s needs. I say do it.

I'll take the bait and say I would like it.
It’s not bad. I’d feel kind of gross picking up the Browns’ scraps, but if Marvin and Zim can whip his ass into shape this would be a nice pickup.

Really?
picking up the Browns’ scraps
Have we seriously sunk to this depth?

Yeah, kinda.
Remember that we were 4-12 last year. It’s not like we’re a SB winning team that can honestly say we’re above that.

okay, cause for deep thought here
first of all, there’s a good chance there won’t be any football. Secondly, we probably aren’t going to be a dominant team for at least another 2-3 years. By that time, Rogers will be in his mid-thirties, have been a pain in the ass and brought down the discipline level on the team, and taken up a roster spot from a young prospect who could be starting for us by that point.
So…. the answer is still, emphatically, NO.

Katie says to remember our end of the season splash and look forward to an easy schedule next year!
As wary as I am of this team's ability to succeed,
those are good points by Katie. I mean, we already knew it and wrote about it AT LENGTH here on this blog, but still…

Uh.....
We had a franchise QB playing those last few games. Some people around here think “oh we’ll just draft a QB or pick up someone’s scraps/2nd string QB” those of us that lived/died during the post Boomer pre Carson era are very depressed. Forget about being dominant, this team will struggle to be competitive without a good QB (yes Carson is a good if not very good QB).

+1
think buffalo or the cardinals, that’ll be us untill we get a good franchise qb

Actually Blue
I think Mike’s philosophy is “As long as we beat them damn Browns daddy would be happy with me”
PLEASE DEAR GOD NO
Which mean that they probably will sign him.
I rather have Sims here instead
He seems to be coming along and Rogers will put some more locker room distractions here that we don’t need.
Being 110% honest.
Let’s at least talk to him, I’m not saying I’m jumping at him and I don’t think many other teams will either (cut by the browns come on now). Maybe just have him in for a workout see how he handles.
Bye Tank :)
Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.
nah
I don’t want any chance of Rogers being convinced and prepped by his agent to put on a dog and pony act for the Bengals to sucker them into believing he’s a changed man – then completely revert to his normal self. In fact, I bet you that’s exactly what he did with Cleveland.

They also released Coleman..
I’d be more interested in him.
