BMD '11 v1.0
This draft has been based off of a list of players that the Bengals are currently targeting for the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft.
Synopsis: A.J. Green has been pegged the most explosive WR since Calvin Johnson & Randy Moss, With Dareus most likely off the board to Carolina and Denver nabbing DeQuan Bowers, if the Bills take Fairley the selection of Green makes even more sense. This gives the Bengals an explosive target to add into their young WR core. Green could come in and start right away and could form a Green-Gresham-Shipley tandem.
Alternatives: Nick Fairley, DeQuan Bowers, Patrick Peterson
Synopsis: The Carson Palmer era has come to an end and the Bengals draft moves will be executed as if Carson Palmer will not be the 2011 starting QB for the Bengals. Although the Bengals have a no. 4 pick in the draft, they do not want to reach for a QB. After seeing Cam Newton struggle at the Combine, the Bengals should make the decision to look to the 2nd round for a QB. The Bengals have been scouting Ponder since his great performance at the Senior Bowl & NFL Combine. He also is seen by Joe Reedy as the most WCO ready QB in this draft and also appeals to new OC Jay Gruden. The only concern for Ponder is his ability to stay healthy.
TRADE: It has been rumored that the Bengals and Seahawks have a deal on the table that sends Carson Palmer to the Seahawks for their 2011 2nd rd pick as well as their 1st round pick in '12, we're going to assume the Bengals accepting this trade .
Synopsis:This could be the perfect year and spot for the Bengals to address their need at safety. One of the safeties the Bengals could target in this range would be Ahmad Black. Black would be a great pickup to the injury-riddened safety position. It also gives them a play-making SS that this defense has been looking for. Only thing against him is his size : 5'10 , but he also is versatile he can also play corner as well as free safety.
Synopsis: With Dhani Jones most likely gone or to be reduced to a reserve role the Bengals could target OLB Bruce Carter allowing them to move Maualuga to MLB his natural position. Carter is better suited to start and covers ground and takes great pursuit angles. He also will be able to help rush the quarterback. The Bengals could grab this Butkis award finalist early within the 3rd round.
Synopsis: The Bengals offensive line has been declining after an impresive 2009 run. With Bobby Williams gettin up in age as well as the Andre Smith expirement going wrong the Bengals could look to Marcus Gilbert who is versatile enough to play guard as well as tackle. Gilbert was a very quality lineman at Florida and could be targeted as a insurance pick.
TRADE: With Carson Palmer likely out Ocho will follow suit, expect a trade of Ocho to the Raiders highly possible.
Synopsis: If the Bengals miss out on Fairley and Bowers the world is not over. This draft is loaded with talented DE's. Greg Romeus comes in listed at 6'5 264 pounds. Romeus is an enormous talent rushing the QB, but has had problems stayng healthy. He anchored one of the top sack groups in college football. He has a knack of ending up in the right place. If he can stay healthy this could be a great value pick and adds to the depth of the defensive line pass rush.
Synopsis: For all of the size that Ahmad Black lacks, Robert Sands makes up. Nicknamed "The Predator" Sands is listed at an astonishing 6-4 221 lbs. He was clocked in at a 4.56 and could be a steal within the 5th round. This guy is an athletic freak as well as a ballhawk. The Bengals will most likely go with Reggie Nelson at starter, but Sands could provide some great depth

I think thats too high for Amhad Black
I’d rather see us upgrade our OL with that pick… Otherwise good.
I'd like to see
Ahmad Black drafted in the third round and either another O-Lineman, D-Lineman or Running Back with that second second-round pick. This draft you presented with the above-mentioned change, would be ideal. I don’t know that Sands would last to the fifth, but this would help a ton—especially if they manage to keep J-Joe.

black plays big though
And he’s 195 or so and a lot of players put on weight when getting to the pros.

yes I do. literally
because poeple dont do their homework on the guy. Don’t tell me he’s big, because thats not a good thing. Show me a safety over 6’3" thats good. Go ahead…
Besides being “Big”, what else is Sands good at?

But you did say one though..
He was the first to pop in my head, I didn’t really have to go back and look. Just posted a link to back it up.
he can run fast in a straight line
I agree with you. People see size and his combine numbers and highlights, they done take into account the smaller things that it takes to be a good player.

Nice Mock
Some players that could make a big difference. Great post. I like the way you have clips for your synopsis.
Like it overall
though…
…I’d much rather we get a stud OG or OG/OT hybrid with our first pick of the second.
…we should get at least a 2011 first round pick for Carson.
…if we go safety in Round 2, it ought to be Rahim Moore or DeAndre McDaniel.
…Bruce Carter will end up a steal there, like Dunlap was a steal in the 2nd last year. Love Bruce Carter.
…even if I got one of the abovementioned safeties in the second, I’d grab Ahmad Black first of the fourth anyway.
…I agree with Joe G. on Robert Sands. As much of an athletic specimen as he is, unless you’re gonna bulk him up and try him out at OLB, I’d pass.
