Post Combine Bengals Big Board
The NFL Scouting Combine is now officially over, teams will start digging deeper into the film and begin targeting certain players that could fit their style. We know the Bengals team needs heading into 2011, and I know the draft prospects very well. I feel like I have a pretty good idea of the type of players that would fit the Bengals situation and where they could be selected. So I decided to create what I feel the Cincinnati Bengals big board would look like today.
Please note: Every team's big board is different from the next. This isn't a mock draft. This isn't even where they would expect players to be selected. A big board is used to rank players. Some teams only rank 100-150 players out of a total 250 potential picks. For Example: The Cowboys only listed 23 players as first round picks on their board last year. You usually only rank players you like, and players that would fit your team and scheme. Teams use their board to say, Hey, this guy is ranked number 12 overall on our big board and he's still available in the 2nd round. Let's draft him or trade up to draft him. Much like Rey Maualuga in 2008. The Bengals didnt expect him to be there, so it made the pick relatively easy. For Example: If AJ Green and Patrick Petersonare gone... if the Bengals take the best player on their board. It would be Cam Newton.

I'm only going to 80 players as of now. It gets clouded at this point, and I may have gone too far as it is.

I love how people said Paea is undersized and we couldn't have him as a DT because we want strong guys.
I think a guy who gets 49 bench reps will be fine in the AFCN.

I like how it was stated somewhere that 30+ reps shows what you got in the 4th quarter
This guy could play a game and a half with the endurance he showed in his reps. He didn’t even take a break until he got to 30. I like someone who can go all four quarters and play an entire game
Go on...
I want to hear why.

It's mostly the top
I don’t think AJ Green should be number one on our board. I think it should be Fairley, Dareus, Miller, Quinn, Peterson in that order with Green coming at 6. Bowers worries me a lot. Newton should never be that high.
I also don’t like Ingram, Aldon Smith, Ayers or Locker as high as they are. I think Watt should move up as well as Kerrigan.
Other than that, it’s ok. But I’m mostly worried about our first two picks and looking at that board, I’m afraid of what we do.
im with you
But I say fairly, peterson, bowers, quinn, dareus, miller.

decent chance
I did a mock draft with 3 other draftniks the other day. The 4 of us took took making the picks and Ayers went to the Titans in round 2.

I just fear that the Bengals will pull a 1990’s draft and do something like:
1) Cam Newton QB
2) Leonard Hankerson WR
3) Jaquizz Rodgers RB
and save the O-line and defense for rounds 4 and later.
Which may not be a terrible thing if you figure that such a God-awful draft would just about assure us of getting A Luck next year at #1.
Yeah, but by then
Mike will have fallen in love with Newton and wouldn’t draft Luck even if he was ripe for the taking. Sigh.

i love seeing Mallet that far down, not so much w/Kaepernick....
also Ahmad Black- would like to see him a little higher
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
please remember what context this board is in
Its not my overall big board. That looks much different.
I have a guy like JJ Watt (who I really like) is lower than guys like Mikel Leshoure is because of the need. Even if both players were available in the 2nd round. Overall Watt is the better player, but Leshoure would be the pick. Get it?

I get it but still don't agree
I think DE might be a bigger need than RB at least in terms of skill (especially if we go with Green/Newton with the first pick). You can find a RB later in the draft much easier than you can a DE.
That being said, I do love Leshoure…

ne NFL personnel evaluator stated at the Combine that he believes Auburn DT Nick Fairley is really only a “top 15-20” pro prospect. The evaluator still predicted Fairley would go in the top ten, but doesn’t believe he’s necessarily deserving due to concerns with the SEC Defensive Player of the Year’s “body, speed, and technique.” It’s true that Fairley was clearly outdone by Marcell Dareus in the 10-yard split, and measuring in at 6-foot-3, 291 pounds isn’t going to help Fairley in the eyes of 3-4 teams

not that one evaluator's opinion matters
but Fairley was also outdone pretty impressively by Marvin Austin who came in at 320.
