Cam Newton = Vince Young 2.0

Stay connected for news and updates

With the NFL Draft aproaching fast, many mock draft boards have come out. Most recently, Mel Kiper's Mock Draft 3.0, in which he has the Bengals drafting Cam Newton. The 6'6" quarterback out of Auburn had an impressive junior season, amidst some controversy, scandal and a Hiesman Trophy. Newton's stats are very comparable to those of a former Longhorns quarterback, drafted by the Tennesse Titans in the 2006 draft with the third pick.

If the Bengals draft Cam Newton, it will be a repeat of Akili Smith. Im gonna be blunt right now, the Bengals are the worst team in the league in drafting in the first round. With the exception of '06, '07, '08. Those picks have been some-what solid so far. And Gresham it is hard to tell at this point what he will turn out as. But besides those years the first round draft picks have been terrible. Andre Smith, has been one of the biggest turds i have ever seen, he barely plays and when he does play he cannot block worth a crap. If Mike Brown has any sense, he NEEDS to trade Palmer for some 2nd round picks. More talent comes out of the 2nd round then anyother round of the draft. The Bengals need to pull a page from the Patriots book, and stock up on 2nd round picks.

So back to Cam Newton, he is a head case, just like Vince Young. Talking in third person at the combine, really???? Cam Newton is not a franchise quarterback. He is a long-term back up at best. The Bengals should look to draft Christian Ponder or Andy Dalton, in the second round. With the first round pick, they really really need to add to the offensive line, or A.J. Green, because OchoSucko isnt cutting it anymore. He needs to go fight Tom Zbikowski and get his bell rung. But thats another story. The Bengals need a good draft if they are gonna turn around their 4-12 record.
