I vote for (Killa) Cam('Ron) Newton.... 'Oh Boy'

What's up people?

Forgive me for bringing this up, because i'm sure this has been debated ad nauseum, but I think Cam Newton could be a great pick.

My favorite season of the first decade of this millenium was Version 2009. Good old fashioned AFC Central/North smashmouth football. With Jay Gruden openly advising that this brand of offense would be on display on Sunday's, I regained that false hope I feel each and every season. When we look back at 2009, there was a severe lack of talent at a position of importance to effectively run the smashmouth offense. That my friends would be dynamic duo of "god i would hate actually hold onto this ball so i'll go ahead and fumble it" Dan Coats and his buddy John Paul Foschi.

Many a fan went back and forth with me on how much they hated this style of offense. I believe PDoc penned, "making Palmer hand off to benson is like purchasing a ferrari and leaving it in the garage."

Well, CPalmer is no longer the QB my friends. 2011 excites me because we have all of the tools to run the Smashmouth offense. Two capable TE's in Gresham and Coffman, two slot receivers in Caldwell and Shipley, and you've got Jerome Pimpson comin out of nowhere. Also, a nasty OLine that proved they accel in this mold as opposed to the finesse offense.... the only component that could make this smashmouth offense a little better would be... oh I don't know, a mobile QB???

Before we debate the mechanics of one Cam Newton, lets debate the type of throws he'd be making. In a clock killing, punishing rush attack offense, the QB is likely throwing to more of the slant and hitch routes than the go's and post's. Probably looking at a lot of underneath, 4 - 12 yard passes, which i'm confident Cam can do.

I don't know how many of you come out on this whole deal because i've taken a loooooooooooong hiatus from bengaldom. Please feel free to counter me all you like. Here's how I really feel about this guy: He's a proven winner. He's got the hardware. Yes Palmer had the Heisman as well, but he had Pete Carroll and company's best crop of talent (USC's probation comes to mind). The one thing Cam Newton has that Palmer doesn't is guts, and ability to perform under pressure. Playing QB in the SEC is no easy feat, nevertheless winning the national Championship. I'm like Mike Singletary, "I want winners".

If it is Jay Gruden's will to pound the rock between the tackles, then we should embrace that. (i think it's obvious that i do) I can't wait to see the smashmouth offense back on the field at PBS.... givin plenty of time Carlos Dunlap, Michael Johnson and Geno Atkins to rest up to get their pass rush on.

Hope everyone's been well and hope the lockout ends soon. Peace yall
