2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft - The Houston Texans Select....

For the No. 11 pick in the second-annual Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, Joe27 selected for the Houston Texans, who have the standard three picks available.  Here is the pick...

With the No. 11 pick in the 2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select...

Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Interesting predicament for the Texans here. With so many obvious holes on the defensive side of the ball, the natural reaction would be to fill one with this pick. But the way this draft has fallen, that simply would not be an option without reaching. Wade Phillips' new 3-4 front seven and the Texans' abysmal secondary from a year ago will have to wait.

Star-divide

Jones is without a doubt the best player available here, and frankly, the Texans are getting great value grabbing him at No. 11. Andre Johnson will be 30 when (if?) the 2011 season begins, and with little depth behind him, wide out is indeed a priority in this draft. Houston is ecstatic to bring in Jones, a beast of a player with virtually no ceiling, to learn the ropes from one of the elite WRs in the league. With Andre, Julio, and Kevin Walter moving to a more natural position in the slot, the dangerous Texans offense turns downright criminal. And that's without even mentioning the league's top rusher and fantasy superstar Arian Foster, who also just gained a yard per carry after the opposing secondary takes a few steps deeper. While Houston may be disappointed that a top OLB or DB wasn't available, they won't hesitate in grabbing an immediate starter here. Sometimes the best defense is an unstoppable offense.

If stats are your thing, look no further than this: In three matchups against LSU and Patrick Peterson, the do-it-all defensive back taken earlier in the draft, Jones had 21 catches for 319 yards and 2 tds.

The Texans aren't the only ones who benefit from this pick. Julio moves from a run oriented offense with a "game manager" quarterback to a open system with a quarterback in Shaub who loves to throw the ball around, and isn't afraid to take chances. At 6-3 and a robust 220 pounds, Jones will thrive in this offense. He easily shrugged off tackle attempts from DBs in the SEC, and will continue to do so in the NFL. Also, his well documented willingness to do the dirty work and high character are especially attractive to Rick Smith and the Texans' front office.

That's be a scary offense.

That being said, I think defense will be the pick.

You don't know how we think about this in Houston then

We are really torn on this pick in Houston. If the draft plays out like this mock draft is going, I can’t see how we could pass on Julio Jones. If Miller, Dareus, Quinn, & Prince are gone & Julio is sitting there on the board, we could possibly take Jones or look for a trade back, which New England looks like an obvious trade partner. Julio would be the right guy for Andre to teach up & would be a great #2 WR. If we do take him, he will be the only offensive player we’ll take.

As for our defense, yes it’s horrid. Yes, it has a lot of holes. But this draft is so deep in defensive players that we can afford to take Jones in the first round, especially if we get a 3rd round compensatory pick. Realistically we could target guys like Dontay Moch, Sione Fua, & Casey Matthews in the 2nd & 3rd rounds with secondary help coming in the mid to late rounds. Also I see the Texans seriously considering taking Nebraska K/P Alex Henery in the 5th round due to his massive value in special teams. He can handle punting, kickoffs, & 50+ yard FGs (outside of Denver).

Also once free agency starts up, if we can’t get Nnamdi Asomugha to sign here in Houston (which we do think is not likely gonna happen), they will make a serious effort to go after Johnathan Joseph if the Bengals don’t lock him up
