2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft - The Jacksonville Jaguars Select....

With the No. 16 pick in the 2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Jaguars select...

J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin

The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals share a common problem: selling tickets. The lack of fan interest in Jacksonville has spawned chatter about moving the team to Los Angeles, and even a grass roots program started by former player Tony Boselli to help sell tickets and hope. Despite the fact that the Jaguars contented for an AFC South title, the team finished 24th in overall attendance and had several games blacked out. While 24th in league attendance seems abysmal, this was actually an improvement over 2009 in which they averaged 45,000 fans per game in a stadium that seats 70,000. This would indicate that a Jacksonville team that was in playoff contention only managed to climb six spots in overall attendance.

Star-divide

This leads us to Jacksonville's 2010 draft which saw them pick DT Tyson Alualu from California. The draft pick drew ire from draftniks, pundits and fans. Although Alualu had a stellar rookie campaign, he didn't have the impact that a top 10 draft pick should have. At the moment of this pick there were rumblings that Tim Tebow was shooting up draft boards, and might be selected much higher than expected. Tebow played his high school ball 18 miles south of Jacksonville, and went on to become a hero at The University of Florida. With Jacksonville's attendance woes, it would seem like a great way to gain fain interest. However, Tebow went on to be selected by the Denver Broncos with the 25th pick and led the league in jersey sales despite being a backup for the majority of the season. One has to wonder how many people in norhtern Florida are sporting a #15 Broncos jersey?

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, there is no player in this draft that would have a Tebow type impact. Therefore, they should focus on building a strong defensive front to help contend with the stellar quarterback play within the division. J.J. Watt would be the pass rushing threat to help the Jaguars fledgling sack totals. Watt tore through opposing offensive lines accumulating 62 tackles and 7 sacks. Fans may remember him sacking Terrell Pryor twice and reeking havoc throughout Wisconsin's October win against the Buckeyes. Watt is a high motor/hard working player who may draw some comparisons to a former Bengal with an Anheuser Busch tattoo on his bicep. However, Watt produces sacks and doesn't have an alcohol problem. Watt has the potential to be a pro bowl player, and should be considered a steal at the point in the draft.

There might be, I have never seen a draft with this much talent in edge rushers witha dearth of talent else where, especially at OT, corner, RB, and QB.

It must be inordinately taxing to be such a boob. ~ The Brain

Don't see this.

They’ve invested too many picks and free agent signings to improve this. They sure could use a stud WR – although at this point nobody is available worthy of being this high.

Not really?

That pass rush died when Kampfman got injured. They’ve invested a lot, yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s above fixing, especially when they had less sacks than us last year.
