The argument against drafting a QB at #4

There are a host of reasons not to draft a QB in the first round this year - the main one being no candidates worthy of that pick besides maybe Gabbert and his lack of success at the collegiate level raises some doubt too.  Equally important though is the combination of the lockout and Jay Gruden.  If there is even going to be a season this year (can't believe I'm even writing that!) then it will be without any kind of legitimate training camp.  That puts the likelihood of a rookie QB playing during the season very low.  The entire offense will be learning a new system and it won't help that a rookie QB will be faced with learning the NFL on top of that.

I also think that there are enough question marks about the QB prospects this year that we should be able to get value for one in either the 2nd or 3rd round.  The team needs to take the "streetcar" approach, meaning that if you're just about to miss one - it's ok, let it go, another one will be coming later.  So I do think the team will draft a QB early, but I hope it won't be at #4.

I'm also anxious to see LeFevour get a shot to lead this team.  He may not yet be ready, but he's a gifted athlete (faster 10-sec split than any prospect this year) plus he's got excellent accuracy and good size (6-3/230).  His style of plan would seem to be a good fit for the "Jay Gruden offense" - whatever the heck that turns out to be...
