If the Bengals are going to reach for a QB, they might as well do it right.

Editor's Note: The following article is written by Cincy Jungle commenter Ephram. Its an interesting article that may help you decide which quarterback the Bengals should select in the draft based on their accuracy and interception percentages. It shows percentages for accuracy and interceptions in both current NFL quarterbacks and the quarterbacks that may have caught the Bengals' eye. Ephram,  job well done.

Looking at the QB’s over the last 10 or 15 years who were drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds, I tried to find a statistic that all of the good QB’s shared and all of the bad QB’s (or busts) shared.

ACCURACY MATTERS A LOT

The ‘busts’ all had %’s below 62%.

2/3 of the ‘busts had a % of 58% or lower

The ‘serviceable’ guys had %’s all over the map, but all of them had a % higher than 59% except Jay Cutler

The ‘eilite’ guys (Manning, Rodgers, Brady, Rivers) had 62.3%-63.8%

Only Drew Brees had a lower %, but even that was still 61.5%

INT % MATTERS MORE THAN NOT

The ‘busts’ ranged from 2.4%-3.9%

The ‘servicable’ guys ranged from 1.4%-3.3% and were all over the map

The ‘elite’ guys had a % of 2.0%-2.6%

The ‘elite’ guys generally have a lower int % than the ‘busts’

TD % DOES NOT MATTER

The ‘busts’ generally had a higher % than the elite in this regard, and 3 of them (Akili, Klingler, Leaf) had TD %’s higher than any of the elite QB’s.

YARDS PER DOES NOT MATTER

The ‘busts’ generally had a higher Yards Per than the elite in this regard, and 4 of them (Akili, Leaf, Vince Young, J Russell) had higher Yards Per than any of the elite QB’s.
