The Cincinnati Bengals will conduct a private workout with Florida State's Christian Ponder in the quarterback's hometown in Dallas, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
In mid-March, head coach Marvin Lewis and offensive coordinator Jay Gruden attended Ponder's Pro Day at Florida State with Gruden leaving impressed.
"Great competitor," Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said afterward, noting that Ponder also brings rare leadership intangibles. "An interesting guy and a great prospect."
Ponder was in Cincinnati earlier this month.
The Bengals are obviously in need of a quarterback and the team has shown deep interest in Auburn's Cam Newton, TCU's Andy Dalton, Arkansas' Ryan Mallett and Ponder with warm interest in Missouri's Blaine Gabbert.
There's a growing belief that the team will select a wide receiver in the first round and a quarterback in the second, setting the stage for a new era of offense with a new quarterback, a new receiver from the NFL Draft, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley and Andre Caldwell.
