The NFL has to get involved
The NFL and Roger Goddell have to get to Cincinnati and have to talk to Mike Brown... He has all this money to spend and his one main FA should have been re-signed.. Eagles make trades and still add top notch guys... Jets were way over the cap and still involved in the Assamaugh(?) sweepstakes...Back in 1978, the Giants had THE FUMBLE with Joe Pisarchek... that off season the commissioner told the Giants to hire a GM.. then George Young came and the franchise took off... PLEASE NFL GET INVOLVED...

Savng CAP
for next year. We aren’t going anywhere this year with a rookie QB anyway.
They just have to average a certain CAP, not make it every year.
If it's for next year
then why let Joseph go, he’d be important next year if Brown were waiting till next year to win

They are hoarding cash for 2013
That’s what they are doing.

I actually think this team is OK not spending money if FA this year
JJ got offered a “competetive offer” from the Bengals, but from his soundbite he chose to leave for a chance at a Super Bowl run in Houston.
Other than him… who are we going to spend on? Nnamdi didn’t fit with this team, he costs too much and is too old for a team that’s not making a Super Bowl Push.
We need a CB to replace Joseph, we got him in Nate Clements… good pickup in my opinion. Still good enough to play, lets some of the young guys (Trent, Ghee) develop underneath him
We could use some pass rush help… but the only guy out there was Charles Johnson, and the Panthers were intent on locking him down. Jason Babin looks like a one year wonder to me. Seems equivalent to the Antwan Odom deal. Plus I like seeing MJ play the spot more.
We needed a vet QB… McNabb could’ve been good, but would have demanded taking away PT from Dalton…
We signed Thomas Howard, apparently a decent linebacker… we might need to make one more signing there because of injuries to Muckleroy… I would love to see Brandon Johnson come back and be given a starting role.
Other than that, We have a bunch of young guys who will be earning big contracts in future years. Leon Hall and Jerome Simpson or Andre Caldwell next year. Carlos Dunlap, Rey Maualuga, MJ, Atkins, etc… will all be deserving. Even Whit will be deserving of a big contract soon. Right now, I’d rather not waste money on quick fixes and let these younger players develop earn those big contracts when their time comes (not that we can count on Mike Brown to do that)

Well said sir
As much as I wanted JJo back, his absence won’t spell ruin for this team. I love the young talent this team has amassed and as far as I’m concerned as long as they lock up most of those guys the Bengals will be fine.
Odd
It just sounds weird for someone to sign with the Houston Texans because they want a chance at a Super Bowl. I know they’re pretty good, but it still sounds odd. And he does stand a better chance at winning there than he does here.

A Huge Money Grab and Another Screwing Over of the Fans by Mike Brown just Happened Again
Somebody needs to do something about it.

Zimmer's response tells it all...
When the defensive coordinator comes out and questions the move publicly, there is something wrong with this organization….

The fans have to get involved
and by that I mean by not going to the stadium or buying merchandise or turning on the tee-vee when the Bengals are on.

Doubt we'll have to worry to much about the teevee...
Probably be blacked out for 8 home games.

good!
the emptier the better.
starve the beast. it’s the only thing that has not been tried in 20+ years of suffering, bitch-slapped fans.

Haha do you not remember the 90s?
I’ve always wanted to call you a damned fool, but now you’ve went and proved it all on your own :)
Change gone come mane! Trust me! Cause i Bleed tigerblood!--Jerome Simpson
you have a crap memory
Season Total Capacity Change
1993 353,273 73% -14.5%
1994 415,638 86% 17.7%
1995 385,071 80% -7.4%
1996 382,774 79% -0.6%
1997 439,831 91% 14.9%
1998 444,335 92% 0%
1999 404,679 84% -8.92%
2000 469,992 89.6% 16.1%
So the worst it ever got during the most miserable period of football in the history of football was the stadium was three quarters full, and most years more than four fifths.
That’s not fan involvement in starving the beast.
Starving the beast is when attendance is 10 or 20%
Too many KOOLAID drinkers for that though.

There were a few games that sold out or close to selling out
b/c of the other teams fans. Ummm, like Shitsburgh and Cleveland. There were a lot of other fans going to those games other games.
I don’t know where you got your numbers, but they are miscued, a lot. I was there at quite a few games in the 90’s and Riverfront was about a 1/3 full for the most part with our own fans.
And yeah I love Kool aid….
I wish the leadership situation of the team was different
but I disagree the NFL needs to get involved.

NFL got involved with the Giants
because they thought the fix might have been in. Eventhough the Giants were bad for ten years they haven’t not sold out in a very long time. There is still a waiting list for tickets a mile long.

Somebody PLEASE write it.
Then post it here so we can e-mail it to Mr. Goodell.

Don't Care How Bad Brown is...
…I don’t want the NFL having the authority to take over private enterprise. If you have to get mad at anyone, get mad with the NFL who have created a business model (shared revenues, bloated TV contracts) which rewards mediocrity (B rown) so that bad owners still make a profit. You get call for boycotts, etc., but with the current CBA, you can play to an empty stadium and still Brown makes a profit. I don’t like it but that’s the reality of the NFL.
But the Bengals aren't a separate private enterprise.
They’re a subsidiary of the NFL. They are their own organization, but they answer to the NFL. This isn’t like a government takeover.

Umm yeah, save the psuedo-economic claptrap.
The Bengals are a subset of the NFL, not an independent entity. And the business model of the NFL is really good at maintaining long-term parity. This is strictly a question of an owner not pursuing a goal of winning, but rather profit.
There’s no need to restructure the whole league to dance around inane Randian sensibilities. Just force MB to sell the team to someone interested in winning.
The issue isn't whether the Bengals make a profit
Mike Brown makes the NFL worse, unless Mr Goodell thinks you need to have a team that’s the Washington Generals, the designated losers.
I personally think that when Marvin Lewis was hired the NFL was putting pressure on Mike Brown and he responded by pretending to change things.

Saving money
He’s just saving money so he can sign a third string free safety for three years, $25 million. C’mon guys…we can’t expect Mike Brown to do something that makes sense. It’s just not his style.

I feel for you guys. The other Ohio team has been stuck in the same cycle for years. The owner finally realized that he’s just an owner with no real football knowledge, so he went out and got himself a football guy to run the organization.
Thats what Mike Brown needs to do. Just sign the checks and get the hell out of the way, and let the team play.
