How would You Contruct Your 53 man roster
We Now Turn our page into the next chapter of a new beginning...........
The Roster for 53's, its such a horrible idea only keeping 53 players, Why not keep up to 57 players........
Here is a Early look and who I'll would keep on the 53 Man Roster..........
Offense: 27
Quarterback(3): Andy Dalton, Bruce Gradkowski, Jordan Palmer
Okay okay okay, I get it. No one wants Jordan Palmer on the team i know, but hey he has some NFL experience so I dont know why people want him off the team? I Know maybe because of the Carson Palmer situation right? Oh well its up to you guys.
Fullback(1): Chris Pressley
He Can Block and Catch enough said(period)
Running Back (4): Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard, Jay Finley
I know some people like John Griffin if John Griffin is going to be on the team then Finley or Leonard has to go, but i dont want to lose either player so its a pretty hard decision to pick between those 3 guys unless we decide to keep 5.
Wide Receivers(6): AJ Green, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre Caldwell, Quan Cobsy, Ryan Whalen
Its Pretty much set from the get go right? you have Green and Simpson starting and Shipley in the slot and Caldwell will backup Green, Cobsy will backup Simpson and Whalen to backup Shipley.
Tight Ends(4): Jermaine Gresham, Chase Coffman, Bo Scaife, Colin Cochart
I went with 4 TE's because of history of injury, Cochart can play no doubt about it. The Kid can block and catch just go look at his college vid.
O-Line(9): Andrew Withworth, Clint Boling, Kyle Cook, Bobbie Williams, Andre Smith, Anthong Collins, Otis Hudson(injured), Max Jean-Giles, Dennis Roland, Reggie Stephens
Its Pretty much said and done, I took out Nate Livings and but in Boling as a starter, I dont know how Livings got the nod to go last year over Evan Mathis(Have 9 because Hudson is hurt)
Defense:26
D-Line(9): Robert Geathers, Domata Peko, Tank Johnson, Michael Johnson, Carlos Dunlap,Geno Atkins, Pat Sims(injured), Frostee Rucker, Jonathan Fanene, Clinton McDonald
This was a very hard choice to pick who is a go and who is not, but at the end of the day you will just have to give it to the guy that can really make a difference on the field and the one who can change the game. I think this unit would be scary if they are all healthy for the entire season. (Have 9 because Sims is injured)
Linebackers(7): Manny Lawson, Rey Maualuga, Thomas Howard, Brandon Johnson, Keith Rivers(Injured), Dontay Moch, Rodderick Muckelroy (IR), Dan Skuta, Vincent Rey (Have 9 Because Rivers and Muckelroy are injured)
Since Were down with Muckelroy for the year and Rivers for a few months i added Skuta and Rey onto the team but which will mostly be on ST
Cornerbacks(5): Nate Clements, Leon Hall, Adam Jones(Injured), Morgan Trent, Brandon Ghee, Korey Lindsey
I had some debate whether to keep Jones or not if he's healthy to play and not suspended I would let Wade walk and keep Lindsey, I am keeping 6 because i dont know whether if Jones gets suspended or not. (Have 5 because Jones is injured)
Safeties(5): Reggie Nelson, Chris Crocker, Gibril Wilson, Rober Sands, Tom Nelson,
I Think this is one of the best duo of safety we had have in years hopefully Wilson can go back to his old form when he won the Super Bowl with the Giants.
Special Teams:3
Kicker(1): Mike Nugent
Solid Player can get the job done but I dont know about game winning FG's? or under pressure kicks.
Punter(1): Kevin Huber
Great Player has helped out ST a lot with his leg power
Long Snapper(1): Clark Harris
Just Doing his Job

Dont we techinically get a 54 person roster this year. Im not sure. but that could be reason to hang on to griffin. but i just dont see them going with 5 running backs
I think that adds up to 56
Typically the Bengals go 25/25/3. On offense we usually carry 9 lineman and 3 QBs which means that TE+WR+FB/RB=13. In the past, we have gone 3 TEs, 6 Wrs, and 4 RB/Fb
I have a feeling that we may only carry 5 Wrs this year to free up a spot for an additional RB or TE. This would be appropriate for a “power running” West Coast offense. We need more blocker and guys that line up in the backfield.
Basically, Cosby Whalen, Coffman, Cochart, Finley, and Peerman are all essentially competing for the last three roster spots. It’s just a matter of where those spots are going to be allocated.
i think we can pretty much say goodbye to cosby
And cochart. I don’t see them valuing cosby as a punt returner enough to cut whalen. And coffman gets a shot over cochart.

livings makes the team, and probably start
I wish they would just cut him

Rico Murray is making this team.
Coaches have lauded his versatility.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
I doubt Scaife is a lock
IF they go three TE’s, I could see Scaife getting cut if he is out performed by both Coffman and Cochart. I honestly think he was brought in more for competition than as a player the staff is looking to as a player on the field often, but i could be wrong.

Few Considerations
1) As pointed out by others, Active Roster is 53 — you have 56
2) When constructing the opening roster, you have to list “injured” guys as either on IR, on PUP or on the Active 53-man roster. The first two categories do not count against the 53-man roster. However, guys on IR are out for the season while PUP designation puts a player out for the first 6 weeks and can only be utilized on players who have NOT participated at all in summer camp.
3) Typically the Bengals have gone with the following roster formulas:
a) Offense (23-26) — QB – 3; RB – 3-4; FB – 1; TE – 2-3; WR – 6; OL – 8-9
b) Defense (23 – 26) — DL – 8-9; LB – 6-7; DB – 9-10
c) Specialists (3) — K – 1; P – 1; LS – 1
4) I think the issues are these — all comments subject to injury considerations:
QB — will keep 3 with only question of who wins #3 battle (JPalmer vs. LeFevour)
RB — expect them to keep only 3 with outside chance of Jay Finley being a 4th
FB — some suggest they’ll go without but team did much better at end of 2010 with Pressley banging it as FB
TE — probably comes down to Coffman vs. Cochart for 3rd spot; doubt they keep 4 simply due to needs at other roster areas; expect them to target Cochart for PS to start season
WR — this is probably a done deal with 6 guys being Green, Simpson, Caldwell, Cosby, Shipley & Whalen; for those who think that Cosby will be cut, this is quite unlikely as they love and highly value his RS/STs play
OL — 4 starters are virtually set with Whit, Cook, Bobbie Williams & Andre Smith; virtual locks at backup include Collins & Boling; that leaves 2-3 spots including whoever will start at LG; Livings probably battles Jean-Gilles for the LG starter spot with the loser actually risking being released; the team almost always keeps three guys who can snap, so expect them to keep Stephens as backup OC with Boling now working as the 3rd OC; that makes 8 guys, and it seems that they want to hold onto Otis Hudson as a 9th. Lots of variation implied here with the Livings/Jean-Gilles loser perhaps battling Hudson and/or Stephens for the 9th spot; also Roland gets consideration for a spot although I think he’s done as a Bengal without an injury to Whit, Smith or Collins
Total O – with 3 QB, 3 RB, 1 FB, 3 TE, 6 WR & 9 OL, that makes 25 on O and leaves 25 for the total D roster
DT – almost always go with 4; Peko & Tank are starters; Atkins is pass rushing specialist; probably Sims battles McDonald for other spot; perhaps a late FA addition here too as this group is quite weak; Sims may start season on PUP with foot injury and poor conditioning
DE — recently they have favored keeping 5 with the use of 3 DEs on passing downs; they appear to be targeting use of Geathers and Michael Johnson on running downs & Dunlap and Rucker on passing downs; with Fanene back, they’ll rotate him and Rucker and/or use both with Dunlap as pass rushers; that’s 5
LB — the starters are Lawson, Maualuga & Howard; Rivers starts on PUP; backups are Moch, Skuta & Brandon Johnson; Vince Rey fights for a spot as a 7th LB (which would mean that they could only start the season with 4 DEs or 9 total LBs); DeQuin Evans is said to be battling for a spot, but look for them to develop him on PS this season
DB — look for them to keep 10 with either 5 CB/5 S or 6 CB/4 S; starting 4 are Hall, Clements, Crocker & Reggie Nelson; Trent starts season as nickel CB while additional roster locks are CB Ghee & S Robert Sands; this leaves 3 spots with favorites including S Gibril Wilson and likely the better of the two vet CBs Bennett or Wade; I’d look for them to keep Rico Murray as the 10th DB as he can play all DB spots and is a top end Shttp://www.cincyjungle.com/2011/8/11/2357682/how-would-you-contruct-your-53-man-roster?login=1313122245#Ts contributor; this suggests that Pacman starts the season on PUP, that they try to stash Korey Lindsey & Jeromy Miles on PS, and that they release Tom Nelson
Total D — expect 9 DL, 6 LBs, 10 DBs for a total of 25
Specials — no surprise here as Nugent appears to be winning his battle vs. Tom Weber
Final Note — the above is always subject to injury considerations, but I see this at present as the most likely way this roster will start the season. I look for them to target their 8-man PS with RB Jay Finley, CB Korey Lindsey, LB DeQuin Evans, DT Clint McDonald, OT Matt O’Donnell, TE Colin Cochart, LB Vince Rey & S Jeromy Miles. But what the hell do I know anyway?!!

I see a chance of going with only 2 actual QB's this year.
Name that 4th TE or RB as a QB and then they can play hurray…. (dont know if that works but they will be active) need a QB/WR like brad smith
