ProFootballTalk is saying that we have $41 million in cap room, but I have no clue how they are getting to that number. According to my figures, we should have $23.9 million in cap space. Obviously that's still way too much to be sitting around doing nothing (other than increasing the retirement fund for the Brown family) but I don't see how the reported cap space can be more than $17 million off. My only guess is that it doesn't reflect recent deals (Benson, Clements, Lawson for example). On top of that, my figures don't even include the signing bonus information on most of our draft picks since I haven't tracked them all down.
So before everyone starts quoting PFT on this one, hold your horses. Feel free to whine about sitting on nearly $24 million of available money, but let's now exaggerate.
If the team is content with it's current roster (other than published reports it's looking for O-line depth and possibly another safety), contract extensions are another option. Here are some candidates based on being in their last year of their deal:
CB Leon Hall
DT Pat Sims
