Around SBN: How NBA Draft Lottery Results Affect Prospects' High Hopes

Cincinnati Bengals Interested In Linebacker Marvin Mitchell

NEW ORLEANS - NOVEMBER 21: Marvin Mitchell #50 of the New Orleans Saints makes a tackle on Marshawn Lynch #24 of the Seattle Seahawks as Scott Shanle #58 forces a fumble at Louisiana Superdome on November 21 2010 in New Orleans Louisiana. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

The Bengals are continuing to pursue potential linebackers to add to the mix. Injuries to Keith Rivers and Roddrick Muckelroy, combined with the lack of deals for Dhani Jones and Brandon Johnson have forced the team to look for solutions in free agency. Larry Holder at CBS Sports is reporting that the Bengals may be interested in acquiring linebacker Marvin Mitchell. Mitchell was drafted in the 7th round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

I'm also hearing LB Marvin Mitchell may be making his way to the #Bengals. Nothing set in stone, but hearing there's interest from Cincy.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

Mitchell, 6-foot-3 and 249 pounds, has proven himself to be a valuable special teams performer and a solid backup linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. Mitchell recorded 43 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles last year for the Saints.

Pro Football Focus, listing him as one of the best available outside linebackers in 4-3 schemes, writes:

He was the Saints nickel linebacker because he was above average in coverage. However, it was the run plays where he shined with a +5.8 rating.

I like the recent moves

Quick question: Who would you rather have Marvin Mitchel or Brandon Johnson?? Now we need to address the O-line, assuming we make this deal.

I'd rather have Johnson

since he already knows the scheme for both D and ST. That being said, it sounds like Mitchell is of similar caliber and I guess playing for the Saints, he brings some championship experience of some variety.

I guess my vote is whomever they get into camp August 4th

Hopefully we dont lag behind in Pass defense

We got a lot of players that are good against run D but hopefully the front 7 can put pressure on the Qb and our corners can cover

I think we have a very pretty good Defense rirght now

we should get one more safety( Donte whitner) and if our D is good it should help our offense adjust even more
