Bengals Tight End Bo Scaife May Go On Injured Reserve

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, former Tennesse Titans tight end Bo Scaife may have suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against the Carolina Panthers Thursday night (which should be confirmed on Saturday). Cincinnati signed Scaife to a one-year deal for only $1 million on August 5, primarily to backup Jermaine Gresham as a receiving tight end, which also put Chase Coffman's uncertain future with the team at risk.

Now you have to assume, if Cincinnati planned on taking three tight ends (which is customary but by no means a certainty), that the two spots behind Gresham were going to be fought between three players. With the possibility of Scaife being out of the season, that should take care of the position with Coffman and undrafted free agent Colin Cochart, who isn't expected to pass through waivers for the team to sign onto the practice squad, as your 2011 tight end roster.

I'm not glad that Scaife got hurt...

But I’m glad that we have Gresham, Coffman and Cochhart there… they offer different assets, and I think that’s a potent trio of TEs.

wow

I’ve watched the play begets hurt on and it wasn’t violent or really much more than a basic block.

This makes me think its an older injury and he didn’t reveal how bad it was

It looked like a concussion

He dropped like he was out cold. I wasn’t thinking shoulder unless it’s a nerve or collarbone. They are never forthcoming with the medical truth on these things.

You never like to see anyone get hurt

I hope Scaife makes a full recovery. The positive is that this forces the Bengals to keep the door open for Cochart. I don’t think they had the guts to cut Scaife which is what should have happened. We need Cochart for goal line and short yardage situations, Gresham as our starter and Coffman creating match up problems in the passing game.

damned shame

Bo Scaife would have been damned nice depth. Guessing chase holds on to his NFL dream for another season.

It's Coffman's time...
