I was hearing people talk about the QB situations in Denver, Miami, Washington, Seattle and SanFran. and how bad they were going to be this year. It got me back to thinking about a Carson trade AGAIN (I know it's off the table for now, so why bother).
Anyways, I was thinking about how Mike Brown said (that besides not wanting to "reward" Carson), the main reason they would not trade him is because they did not beleive they could get value in return (at least not what they beleived he is worth).
I've come to the conclusion that this is total BS and he should at least be willing to let Carson and his agent shop the market. Tell them we want a first round pick, that's it and were not going to budge on anything less. Leave it up to Carson and his agent to make this happen. If they don't make it happen (I don't know if anyone is willing to give up a first round pick but some of the talking heads beleive it's not out of the realm of possibility), and no one bites, we let Carson retire as planned (probally trade him before the draft for less value). This would at least slightly improve the publics perception of the Bengals Franchise and it puts the honus back on Carson. At least he was given the opportunity (although a slight one) to make a deal happen.
Now here's where I was day dreaming. The QB class next year is suppose to be very strong, starting of course with Andrew Luck. Although, I think we are going to be much better than people think most anaylist expect us to be pretty bad and clearly one of the contenders in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. At this point in his carreer I kind of think Carson sucks, and pretty much any of the teams that would want him also are going to suck (Carson is no longer an elite level QB or even a very good one), therfore whoever we trade him to (if we are able to make a deal) will continue to suck and will also be in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes.
If Andy Dalton does not work out (and we don't see progress) we theoretically still have 2 high number one picks to use and a better chance to get the 1rst pick over all where we could land Andrew Luck (remember Dalton's still only a 2nd rounder so we actuallty don't have as much invested in him as people think). However, if Andy Dalton is good and does well (which I think is more likely) we still have the chance that the draft pick we received for Carson could be very high and potentially land Andrew Luck (If you haven't noticed I think Carson sucks and where ever he goes is going to suck as well). At this point, we can take this pick and trade down for a BUNCH of draft picks!!
We would already have two #1 picks(our pick and the one we get for Carson),one or two # 2 picks (depending on the compensatory we get for JJoe), one or two # 3 (depending on the compensatory we get for JJoe), one # 4 pick, two # 5 picks (chad trade) and one # 6 pick. If Dalton pans and the pick we received for CArson picks happens to land in the enviable position where can trade it down I beleive we could easily pick up another #2 and maybe another #3 or #4 in the draft. I think this would be more than enough value for Carson!! Could you imagine that draft:)
