The signing of Bo Scaife was met with little fanfare, but I think it will be one of the more significant moves of the offseason. With underwhelming physical skill at the QB position this year (sorry Andy and Bruce), we'll need enough playmakers on offense to keep us competitive. The WR corps is pretty decent even without that proven veteran. We have height+hands (Green), speed+hops (Simpson), speed+toughness (Caldwell) and quickness+toughness (Shipley). There are enough options for Gruden and our QB to make things happen on the perimeter.
At the TE position, Gresham was a very reliable although somewhat unspectacular target last year however I think he wasn't used well by Palmer and/or Brat, leaving his role restricted to short out routes. But almost 50% of his catches resulted in 1st downs. Scaife adds that same option, albeit in a shorter, lighter and older package. But his presence on the field with Gresham gives us the flexibility of a 3-receiver set but with more effective running plays.
I think we'll miss the big 60yd+ bombs we've seen over the years with Carson at the helm, but I think are enough weapons here to run a Patriots-style "can't cover everybody / no superstar" offense.
