PFT: No Change in Relationship Between Bengals and Carson Palmer

Earlier today we reported on a Tweet from former Bengals tackle Willie Anderson that Carson Palmer was coming back to Cincinnati to talk with the team. We were unsure of what that meant for the Bengals and for the team and wondered if it was a sign that Palmer could be trying to come back to the team or if the team was softening its stance on a trade.

However, Pro Football Talk recently wrote that there is no change in the relationship between Palmer and the Bengals and that the differences between the two sides, according to ESPN Cincinnati, are "irreconcilable."

Apparently, CP representative felt differences are irreconcilable at this point, no more talks with #Bengals front office planned.less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone Favorite Retweet Reply

Anderson also Tweeted that he retracted his previous statement:

I told you all I retract my CP Comeback Statement. Sorry! I was told its not happening. The 2 parties just met, and Sadly Its not happeningless than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® Favorite Retweet Reply

PFT also pointed out that if Palmer did come back, it would likely mean that his younger brother, Jordan Palmer, would be out of a job since the team recently drafted Andy Dalton and signed Bruce Gradkowski.

I find it very interesting

Carson has that training camp itch that all former players get around this time of year.

He never lost his itch to play.

He simply wanted a change of scenery and threatening to retire was the only option he had.

Don`t want cp9 back now , great attitude in camp , no more I people and if there are, get rid of them !!!!! By the way MB, don`t trade him unless we get the lottery for him !!! If he comes back make him the highest paid backup of alltime !

Doesn't even matter...

This Bengals v. Palmer situation is so far blown that, barring a trade, it’s not worth discussing anymore. Really, he couldn’t really come back to the Bengals if he wanted to, at this point. I mean, if he felt unsupported before the offseason, just imagine what it’d be like if he attempted to play for this organization now…where he no longer has any credibility or support from his teammates or the fanbase. Palmer’s about as relevent as his play had been in recent years. Now he’s just another former mediocre NFL QB. Adios, Rosie.

Say it again!

I don’t think they heard!!!!!

At this point…I’d be very upset if he came back…its a fresh start for the bengals I think they desperately need.

by Bdub14 on Aug 7, 2011 2:25 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Just the sheer thought that he might of been coming back totally ruined my damn day..thanks a lot frickin willie…CP stay HOME!

by beast_ on Aug 7, 2011 2:38 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I felt the same way, Willie!

Very funny! Joke of the week. Cp coming back……. No stay in Cali , punk! Let’s go AD and the Bengals!

Is Carsons agent giving Mike Brown one last chance

Trade Carson or else Carson will go public. Failure to trade Carson is an act of COLD INDIFFERENCE .Carson is a Bengal Insider. Carson could have a Retirement Press Conference that will make the horns of Jerico sound like a Prius. “The Opposite Of Love Is Not Hate. It Is Cold Indifference.” Why does Mike Brown play the game of Him? Are we not all in it together? If Carson retires, the press will release the hounds. Mike Brown will be THE GUY WHO GAVE UP ON THE BENGALS BEST CHANCE OF IMPROVING THE BENGALS. No trade equates to zero compensation. Sounds like Mike is OK with Zero. So are We. All Bengal Fans must unite and build a shrine to Mike Brown. Let us Fans retire Mikes number. Lets place Mikes # Zero Jersey into the Hall of Shame. Unless the Crafty Brown can CHANGE HIS WAYS AND BECOME ONE OF US.

hmmm

Carson Palmer maybe getting the chance to win it all elsewhere after quitting here or losing a draft pick and Carson not winning it all elsewhere or even having the chance.
Enjoy retirement Carson.

I think CP9 is really itching to play football.

I just think that he wants to play somewhere else. I wonder what happens if the Bengals have a season like 09 when everyone counted them out and they one with defense and running the rock.

This team has the makings of elite weapons in AJ Green, Shipley and Gresham. Where does Palmer want to go……..Seattle, Miami, Arizona, San Fran where thease teams have far worse offensive weapons……..who knows!!

He quit on his teammates and he will never be able to lead this team because EVERYONE LOST ALOT OF RESPECT FOR HIM and Mike Brown should not bring him back if and when he decides to play.

SOFT WEST COAST PUNK!!

I never liked Palmer!! Im glad he quit cause I wanted him gone anyway Mr. PickSix! I always thought he was too laid back to be a QB of a Midwest team like the Bengals. We take Football serious here in the Midwest.

Everyday is a WHO DEY!

I'll just say what I said in the story 2 posts down from here...

Carson Palmer… You had 1 yr left on your contract… finish it off. But too late for that now… don’t want him back. What chemistry the team has built would be torn asunder

Mike Brown… Stupid stupid stupid! He has value; trade him!

by Oregonbengalsfan on Aug 7, 2011 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

Oh ok so more than 1 more year...

maybe I was thinking of Ocho. But still, another year with the team and they might have been happy with what Dalton did behind him and gotten a mutual trade.

And why trade Ocho but not Palmer? Because Palmer demanded a trade… Ocho tried that once and found that it didn’t work. Palmer should have taken a lesson from Ocho. But Mike Brown is stupidly stubborn.

Ultimate "Stick it to ya"

If he did come back it would be the ultimate stick it to ya because of the fact that he would disrupt a lot of things – including the development of Dalton. Ultimately i doubt that he will do anything but if he did feel spurned enough by the organization, the best way to get back at them would be to come back

by Ryan Neaves on Aug 7, 2011 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

not really

The organization would love to have him back. Do you think they really want to start Dalton? They would prefer him sit a year and learn. I happen to agree with that mentality as well. Shortened off season and training camp. QB had issues picking up pro blitzes in practice= QB getting hurt or just as bad getting beat into the ground, and losing confidence because he hasn’t had enough time to learn.
We play AFC North football not AFC West, Terrell Suggs, James Harrison, Ray Lewis are all salivating at the thought of smashing the love of football out of him.

I feel bad for the dude

as bad as you can feel for a multi-millionaire.

He gave his knee for this sorry-azz organization. Had the dude been lucky enough to be drafted elsewhere he might have won the Super Bowl. He’s this generation’s Archie Manning.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Aug 7, 2011 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

I don't

Plenty of great players never win it all and he was compensated, over paid even, for anything he did on the field. He says he has 80-90 million in the bank, and what did he do to earn that?
Mike brown bent over backwards for him, he didn’t have to re-sign with Cincinnati, but HE chose to.
Stop feeling sorry for the quitter because he doesn’t feel sorry for you!

Has anyone considered

that MB will not trade Carson for fear that if he goes somewhere else and achieves success, that MB would actually have to face the possibility that everyone else is right and his ideas were the “Themes”.. Facing the music MB doesn’t want to do, so the most logical thing is to let Carson retire and MB can still do it his way and not worry about more bad PR.
Just trying to maybe put things into MB’s perspective not mine..

by WHYUS!! on Aug 7, 2011 9:39 PM EDT reply actions

yes

You know behind close doors he thinks about those things,. If he is human he would. He is human , right?

If he doesn’t come back now, before the first preseason game, then it’s over. There is not enough time to be the starter unless he wanted to get eased in during the season. Dalton will already be too entrenched in learning on the job and the bengals will be almost forsced in riding out his growing pains….and why wouldn’t they at that point? Mike Brown should just trade him now and let another team feel that they can implement him into their plans while getting a second rounder for him, not too mention losing that big salary. I say move on and build a winner. Mike Brown needs to develop that player’s mentality of having a short memory to be successful for the next play.

for all we know, he has a copy of Jordan's playbook

and is practicing with his private coaches. Then again, he could be completely lost with the whole offense, who knows!

This has be done @ some point let Carson Retire, wait until Mid-season to even think about a trade, bad mouthing your old team never makes your New Team happy because they known they could be Next!
