Second Half Open Thread: Cincinnati Bengals (1-0) At Denver Broncos (0-1)
Hopefully the Cincinnati Bengals rebound a little in the second half; most notably the Bengals offense need to sustain a drive that gives the defense a little rest. The Broncos held onto the ball for 18:22 through two quarters and the Bengals have yet to reach the 100-yard milestone.

Bengals offense needs to sustain some drives
4 first downs will not get it done. The defense has held its own for the most part, now the offense needs to come through

Is the Denver air

Not liking the play call
They are forcing us to throw, yet we’re still trying to run. We need to throw. Without Bailey on the field we should be able to win the matchups.
Gruden is new to the NFL so I'll givem him the benefit of the doubt...
But he needs to make adjustments better than this. Last week the run opened up the pass. The defense this week is keying on the run. Now use the pass to open up the run.
It’s usually much more complicated than that, but there are times when it can be simplified. I think this is one of those times.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
this is where I really hate dink and dunk
3rd and 15, you’re throwing it 5 yards. why bother?

Plus, there best CB is out today and they are stacking the box. We need to throw before the game becomes more than 1 score and then EVERYONE knows we have to throw.
They need to let Dalton throw some
He seems poised, they are stacking the box, and we are behind. If we are going to win we have to let Dalton throw at some point. I prefer sooner rather than later.
Not liking how Gresh

Agree
They know we’re running now. If we go down by another score, then they will know we are passing and we will be completely predictable the entire game. Should have thrown last possession. If D holds again, we have to throw next possession.

Awful defense all across the board.

Probably too late
We should have let Dalton throw last possession when Denver expected us to run. They likely won’t be stacking to box any longer.

+1
this looks like it will be enough to win.
by occams_tiger_teeth on Sep 18, 2011 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions
The real problem is
Now, they know that Dalton is likely to throw. Last possession they were still expecting the Bengals to run. Dalton could likely pick them apart with one on one coverage with Bailey out. Now, they will stop stacking the box looking for us to throw. They will be able to bring more pressure, just an all around bad spot now.
Denver taking over

No way.
The play was to throw to Green. He would have ended having to make a ridiculously awkward throw or he would have had to tuck and run. Either way, he doesn’t get the first. It was better to go with the play, absorb the hit and see if he had enough arm to get it to Green.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
I realize it wasn't the play called
It seemed if they had designed a bootleg he had room to run.

Worst play call EVER
You have a huge running back and if you can’t push for 1 yard, pack it up and go home.
AFC North
Got to run that right up the gut with Pressley leading
EXACTLY
I been hollering for them to let Dalton throw all day, but that has to be a run and if you can’t beat the other team for 1 yard then you lose.
Cmon defense need a big big stop

I'm not mad about the play call per se.
But did we need to burn a timeout for it?

I'm not AS concerned about W-L in this game.
If Dalton shows poise, I’m happy. It would be tough for any offense, but this is where we really start to find out about this young offense and particularly our rookie QB.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
Bengals are performing above my expectations so far this year..
..I’m good with almost everything at the moment.
Alright, young guys.
remember…if you don’t have open field…get out of bounds.
This.
It’s so frustrating when a young guy tries to cut inside and make a big play but only ends up keeping the clock running.
It’s easy for us to say to run out of bounds, but it’s different for the dude with the ball in his hands who sincerely believes that if he can get an opening he’ll win it for his team.

CRAP
That was one of the growing pains we hear we’re going to have. Dalton can’t take that sack, but you can’t be mad at him after that game.
Also, AJ Green is disgustingly good.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
With all the injuries on defense, we should have beaten them

but they are the bungles

EVERY comment you write is negative. Get over yourself. If you don’t like the Bengals then just pick another team
Well at least we didn't lose by one

I think they found something with the hurry up offense
but it could have a little to do with the defenses being called. Nevertheless, more of that please.
Slower Traffic Keep Right!
We got started too late
And I’m not a fan of all the long passes there we had the time to work it a little we dont need the td just the fg so play for it
+1
Though I think the one double move/pump fake was the right call and it was open, one of the very few Dalton missed today.

"At the very end, somebody took a dump right where I stood in the dugout every day." Dusty Baker
play-calling breakdown in that two-minute drill
why, on 1st and 10, did they throw a 20 yard incompletion? beyond stupid. they only needed to get in field goal range and had plenty of time to do it. they should have used a few short sideline passes with the defensive mismatches present and settled for a field goal as time was running out.
At least we have two awesome young players in Dalton and Green, might be the only reason to watch this team.
Pedro...
…I heard there is an opening over at the Steelers website….
no thanks

Bashing
Bashing the Bengals is personal. Live in Shittsburgh. you are either a fan thick or thin or you are not. I love that this team has no BS around it other than the Califonia Kid who ran away
But that comment wasn't the way to go.

Who should be banned? They played on the road in one of the toughest places to play/ Lost by 2 points. Cheer up!

Sorry
Thought Pedro was just your screen name. Thought your real name may be Hans or Reggie. I guess you should choose a screen name. Not sure how how asking if you are legal makes me a racist? I asked my neighbor who is Irish the same question and he asked me as well. No offense taken in either case. To the point, this team has talent, not just two players.
I'm sitting here grinning thinking about Green's future.
This dude has the talent to be one of the best in the league. I wasn’t entirely on board with the top 5 receiver thing, but now that he’s here I support him. And he makes it easy. All he does is act the right way and make insane plays on the field. The exact prototype you want in a WR.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
+100000
Don’t think ANYONE misses ochocinco and palmer anymore. Hell last years palmer and ochocinco wouldve lost that game worse than this team …
Great game by Dalton
Just wish he had come through on those last two plays especially the sack. But let’s not blame it all on him, the whole team failed in some aspects. But other than that that was a great game and something to build on. 1-1. Tied for first in the AFCN. Nothing really to complain about. Oh and did I mention we have a legit QB? :)
that sack
he’ll learn with time. He’s been amazing so far and it’s only two games. He’s got a great future ahead of him
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 18, 2011 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Right.
No one ever said a rookie would make the smart play in every situation. There are going to be more mistakes like that this year. But let’s be lenient; this is a very tough situation to be thrown into and he’s been beyond our wildest imagination.
Miguel Cairo is so last week.
He's far exceeded all expectations
and it’ll only get better. Can’t wait for all those Dalton-Green TDs in the near future!

49 PTS
Our offense was supposed to be awful! Rookies all over the place. They will be competitive all year. We scored 27 AND 22 in two games. Lets see what we do when we come home.
