Around SBN: Rondo On Slowing Heat: 'They've Got To Hit The Deck, Too'

Second Half Open Thread: Cincinnati Bengals (1-0) At Denver Broncos (0-1)

Hopefully the Cincinnati Bengals rebound a little in the second half; most notably the Bengals offense need to sustain a drive that gives the defense a little rest. The Broncos held onto the ball for 18:22 through two quarters and the Bengals have yet to reach the 100-yard milestone.

Bengals offense needs to sustain some drives

4 first downs will not get it done. The defense has held its own for the most part, now the offense needs to come through

Not liking the play call

They are forcing us to throw, yet we’re still trying to run. We need to throw. Without Bailey on the field we should be able to win the matchups.

by C1ncy4Life on Sep 18, 2011 5:48 PM EDT reply actions

Gruden is new to the NFL so I'll givem him the benefit of the doubt...

But he needs to make adjustments better than this. Last week the run opened up the pass. The defense this week is keying on the run. Now use the pass to open up the run.

It’s usually much more complicated than that, but there are times when it can be simplified. I think this is one of those times.

Miguel Cairo is so last week.

Plus, there best CB is out today and they are stacking the box. We need to throw before the game becomes more than 1 score and then EVERYONE knows we have to throw.

They need to let Dalton throw some

He seems poised, they are stacking the box, and we are behind. If we are going to win we have to let Dalton throw at some point. I prefer sooner rather than later.

They know we’re running now. If we go down by another score, then they will know we are passing and we will be completely predictable the entire game. Should have thrown last possession. If D holds again, we have to throw next possession.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Sep 18, 2011 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

The real problem is

Now, they know that Dalton is likely to throw. Last possession they were still expecting the Bengals to run. Dalton could likely pick them apart with one on one coverage with Bailey out. Now, they will stop stacking the box looking for us to throw. They will be able to bring more pressure, just an all around bad spot now.

play-calling breakdown in that two-minute drill

why, on 1st and 10, did they throw a 20 yard incompletion? beyond stupid. they only needed to get in field goal range and had plenty of time to do it. they should have used a few short sideline passes with the defensive mismatches present and settled for a field goal as time was running out.

Sort of.

Only a 6’4 version of Chad Johnson who’s a much better athlete and doesn’t talk too much.

Miguel Cairo is so last week.

Great game by Dalton

Just wish he had come through on those last two plays especially the sack. But let’s not blame it all on him, the whole team failed in some aspects. But other than that that was a great game and something to build on. 1-1. Tied for first in the AFCN. Nothing really to complain about. Oh and did I mention we have a legit QB? :)

that sack

he’ll learn with time. He’s been amazing so far and it’s only two games. He’s got a great future ahead of him

Right.

No one ever said a rookie would make the smart play in every situation. There are going to be more mistakes like that this year. But let’s be lenient; this is a very tough situation to be thrown into and he’s been beyond our wildest imagination.

He's far exceeded all expectations

and it’ll only get better. Can’t wait for all those Dalton-Green TDs in the near future!

49 PTS

Our offense was supposed to be awful! Rookies all over the place. They will be competitive all year. We scored 27 AND 22 in two games. Lets see what we do when we come home.
