Around SBN: LeBron James Laughs In Kevin Garnett's Face

There the HELL is Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson!!

Your welcome...and next time you shut your mouth when you talk to me.

However, yes it was good to see them, eventho it was brief and we lost. The baby jr slant that is Caldwell's trademark and Jerome Simpson made a huge play, despite another sub-par game.

Aj Green emerged as a work horse, and made a great catch while also planting his feet in the end-zone for a pony wincing unchallengeable play.

Warned people about Chris Crocker early in pre-season, and thanks to those who felt ok with him at safety....good talk russ.

Simpson dropped the 2 pt conversion that really hurt us and was probly the WORST PLAYCALL OF THE NIGHT!!! Regardless, Jerome dropped or was overthrown every ball except the one big play he had and the 3rd down drop he had that led to our last punt was HUGE.

Brandon Tate is friggin terrible. I never thought i'd say this but I miss Quan Cosby. At least the ball was secure...not only am I terrified when Tate has the ball, he refuses to make a decent play or field the ball when it counts. (i.e. 80 yard punt, thank GOD was called back)

Marvin with his typical DumbASS time out at 3min that made no sense, and would've helped us later.

Great Aj Green catch on the pump fake at 1:35, just a little obvious seeing as we ran it 8 times. Aj really delivered late, and eventho was our ONLY target, he played well.

Shipley finally gets dinged after we throw him under the bus for the millionth time. go figure....just posted that he needs to run different routes and of course he's not only running the same routes but gets hurt on an out. that's a HUGE injury and seeing as we don't use Shipley as much or as well as we need to, hopefully we can survive.

What the hell is Gresham doing lining up outside?? back to last post about having NO BIG TARGETS. Maybe, just maybe Gresham won't get injured as well, seeing as we only throw him dig routes right into defenders.

As usual we breakdown at the end. No accountability, no leadership.

Thank you Gruden and mARVIN for the series that changed the game in the 3rd quarter where we let dalton run the offense and we scored, really saw some good things there.

Again was disappointed in our predictability with Ced, our 3rd down conversions, and our inability to use B Scott in the passing game or 2nd down series.

Ok...I'm gonna try not to pick this whole rant apart TOO much.

a) Jerome Simpson, sub-par game? Please. Sure he had the important 3rd down drop, but the ball was thrown way behind him thanks to the pressure that was put on Dalton.

b) The timeout by Marvin was probably one of the best time management calls he’s had in his career as the Bengals head coach. It effectively gave the team an extra timeout with the two-minute warning; and you always want to get your offense the ball back on the right side of the two-minute warning. If they don’t use that time-out at the 3 minute mark, Denver is probably able to run down even more clock past the two-minute break.

c) Lining Gresham up outside prevents severe matchup problems for other teams because of his size. Though I don’t know why we didn’t target him more today (maybe just good coverage schemes by the Broncos) I don’t know how you can complain about lining him up outside, it is a great matchup in favor for us if he is manned up by a corner or safety.

d) What do you expect out of Jordan Shipley, he has a role in this offense and his role is to catch passes underneath and be a security blanket for Andy Dalton, it’s not to run down the field on deeper routes; and there are only so many underneath routes that can be run: outs, digs, slants are just about the extent.

e) Broke down at the end? No leadership? I don’t know what you were watching but I saw plenty of leadership out of Andy Dalton today, the defense had two straight three-and-outs to give our offense a chance at the end, and the offense was on an extraordinary drive until the sack killed the momentum and put them in a really tough situation. The fact that Dalton gets sacked in that situation is just a bit of a rookie mistake, which is to be expected, but to say the team “fell apart” and that there was no leadership is completely ludicrous.

I agree with you on some points, like the failure to convert short third downs, chris crocker’s underwhelming play (even though I believe he played pretty well last week), and Brandon Tate’s lack of awareness.

I just think you’re off base with some of your arguments.

Simpson

dropped more than he caught. He had a couple of good runs after the catch that really padded his stats, but aside from a couple plays he was a non factor. Dalton wasn’t perfect, but for a guy in his 2nd career game he looks pretty damn good. Green came up big, but there were a couple more he could have caught too. Where was Gresham today?

I didn’t like that as the game wore on Dalton started locking in on Green and not bothering to read the field. We had enough of that with Palmer. Hopefully Simpson & Gresham will step up and give Dalton some more legitimate targets.

I don’t think AJ Green gets his TD without Simpson’s 84 yard run.

Simpson converted a 2nd and 23 for 84 yards to get us into the redzone. If he doesn’t make that play, (let’s assume he gets 15 yards and we are at 3rd and 8. We went 1 for 11 on 3rd down so let’s assume we don’t make it) now we are 3 and out with a sack to answer a TD. But he made the play, dragging a defender 20 yards. You could argue that this play was as important in making this a game as the no huddle drive that Dalton orcastrated the drive before.

Did I say just that?

He had a couple good runs after the catch. One probably should have been called brilliant instead of good, doesn’t change the rest of the statement. He dropped a lot of balls and acted like a fool.

Yes, you did say just that.

He had a couple of good runs after the catch that really padded his stats, but aside from a couple plays he was a non factor.

Aside from a couple of plays, AJ Green was also a non-factor. Same with Andre Caldwell. That is the nature of wide receivers, but he may have singlehandedly had the most important single play in the game. I am not saying he shouldn’t have caught some other balls, but give him his due, he kept us in the game at a key point.

The o-line was a little underwealming at times.

Dalton looked very poised at the end of the game. That sack with under a minute left really put them in a terrible spot. The defender was there so quickly in front of Dalton that he had nowhere to go.

I remember Jerome had a bad drop, but some of Jerome’s misses were not good throws.

Maualuga looked underwealming though…espeically on the play where he hits the RB in the backfield, then gets knocked down, and the RB runs for 5 yards. There was another play, where he wrapped up a RB, who ran out of the tackle.

The only playcall that i question is when they got down to Denver’s 35 or so with a couple minutes to go….they were down by 2 and they were in Nugent’s range (especially in Denver) but they wen’t for it on 4th down and didn’t convert. That could have given them the lead w/2 minutes left.

Agree about that play near the end of the game!

DEFENSE???

Offensively we need to convert 3rd down. And our ability to score in the Red Zone “must” improve! I really expected more from AJ.
But hey, what happened to Zimmer’s Defense? Sure they get credit for adjustments and stops in the 4th QTR, but they need to be on game at the start. I think I’d fall over in my chair and spill my drink on myself if they produce a 3-n-out to start against an opponent!

24 points and a loss to a team looking like the walking wounded just does “not” produce a good feeling no matter how many ancedotal comments we come up with to give ourselves hope going forward.
Damn! I feel like we let one get away!

At times the Bengals made Denver look ’unstoppable".

It’s just old-man McGahee and a rookie WR in Decker, and they’re moving the ball like it’s Adrian Peterson and Roddy White.

Our D Line got pushed around too much, and the LB’s didn’t do a great job wrapping up, and why is a team with their top 3 WR’s out of the game (Lloyd, Thomas, Royal) able to throw against us like it’s Montana throwing to Rice out there or something?

by ephram on Sep 19, 2011 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

Maybe they just thought about the game too much and didn’t play hard ball.

Broncs are a beat up team with so many starters out, why not just say “50K to the first three guys to get sacks or interceptions. Go out there, haven fun and make Orton cry.”

Instead, we had defensive line that looked almost scared to rush the passer, and LBs that were afraid to hurt the RBs when they tackled them. Sheesh.

Sure. Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson

well, when you put it that way..

there is the fact that any time a QB gets hit that’s an automatic 15 yard penalty plus a fine.

When you say:

There the HELL is Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson!!

Are you saying that “there is hell” like you’re pointing it out, and saying that Andre & Jerome are hell?
Or does “there the hell” mean that Andre & Jerome are in hell?
Or maybe “there the hell” meaning “there the Bengals”, because they are in hell because Jerome & Andre Caldwell aren’t playing well?

I don’t understand what your post is about?
