Gilyard Should Return to Cincy
Sitting in the stands at the UC/Akron game this past weekend and seeing Mardy Gilyard on the sidelines it got me thinking. Why not?
Here's why...
The guy loves Cincinnati and talked very highly about playing for the Bengals.
He's an electric return man who can make plays... Remember this?

He's a free agent who can be had on the cheap; especially if it brings him back to Cincy. I personally think he'd be great in the slot and as a returner. With Shipley down for who knows how long, why not have a playmaker in the slot position?
And I'm sure it would help the Bengals strengthen ties with UC and have a mutually beneficial relationship.
Thoughts?

I'd rather see Whalen get a shot at this point
He was impressive in camp and looks like a good Shipley replacement (if Shipley is gone for extended time). As for bringing in another receiver, I’d like to see them either pick Cosby back up or give Andrew Hawkins a shot, who looked like a lightning quick return man in the preseason. After a dismal return game for Tate, I might even consider cutting him in favor of one of the other guys.
Its a good idea
It would be nice but thats what they brung Tate in to do. Think Tate did to much looking and danceing on punt returns sunday. I would love to see Tate just get the ball and take off and set things up on the run. It would be nice to put Gilyard on the PS and maybe give him a chance to prove himself
Isnt Gilyard still on the JETS?
personally as a cincy boy i would have perferred him over Tate…
Bring up Big Shirley to the 53 man
and sign Gilyard to the PS. Let’s see what he can do and get him involved.

Personally i’d rather have a WR who is good over one who likes the team. I can find tens of thousands of people in the stands this Sunday who like the team, but i sure don’t want any of them playing WR for us :-)
That's what I say
I don’t care about how much the guy loves the team, the one-horse town, precious little babiesf or Jesus. I just want him to be able to play and to be able to stay out of trouble long enough to be available to play. He can settle all that other stuff afterward.

While he might not be very polished as an NFL receiver...
the kid’s got tremendous explosive talent. Normally I’d say bring back Cosby but in this case why when Gilyard’s available. If we bring him in it certainly wouldn’t be because of an open tryout for just anyone who loves the Bengals that’s for sure. ;)
they were saying Gilyard made strides in TC andpreseason
But lost the Numbers game…
I'm not too sure of him vs. NFL competition....
….but now that the Big Least conf is down 2 more teams, maybe we can join them. He’d tear it up.
Are you kidding me?
I’d love to have him. He’s got the build for a slot receiver and he could potentially solve our problems in the return game if Brandon Tate continues his Peter Warrick impersonation week after week of running side to side and bouncing backwards. Plus a rotation of him, Whalen, and Caldwell in the slot could give defenses a lot to think about underneath. I like it. I remember us passing him up for Shipley a year ago and a lot of fans here were angry about that pick. Why not pick him up now with Shipley out for the year?
as for our return man tate....
it would help if we blocked for him. how many returns did you see us not pressure the punter and then have 5 or more defenders swarm our return man. if we are not putting pressure on the punt, then we should be blocking. tate is doing just fine for the help he is getting on special teams.
Well, we got Binns
Now we need the other half of the dynamic duo. Ha!
Honestly though, I’m hoping he gets some playing time eventually.
gilyards shown nothing to this point
Tates ok and still learning how to set stuff up. I never was on the gilyard bandwagon, but hed be better than hawkins probably at wr. Don’t think its a big upgrade though.
