Injuries can make a team better and in the Bengals case suspensions and forced retirements can make them better
Last week in Denver we saw Willis McGahee play for an injured Knowshon Moreno and I beleive it made there team better. We see it all the time in the NFL, a starter gets hurt and then never gets back on the feild b/c of the success of his replacement, best example being Tom Brady taking over for Drew Bledsoe. Sometimes I think the Bengals are too loyal to players who have had previous success with this franchisse, maybe it's because they have not had a lot a players who have been that successfull with them in recent memory but the reality is they need do a better job of realizing when players (who may have earned a reputation early in there carreers) may not be as good as the players backing them up anymore. Eventhough, Andy Dalton had a sub par performance yesterday I think the Bengals are better off at QB with him at the helm than they would be with Carson Palmer at the helm. I truly beleive Carson is just a shell of what he once was and he did the Bengals a favor by not coming back and playing for this team. If this team would do a better job of evaluating the players performance on the feild and at practice intstead of relying on name reconigtion and previous success who knows maybe Ryan Fitzpatric would be doing with the Bengals what he is doing with Bills this year. Anyways to my point, eventhough I do not agree with the Cedric the Benson and I think he's actually a descent RB, not great but decent. I think the team maybe actually be better off with Benard Scott in the backfeild, especially with the west coast offense if they utilize his skill set correctly. Here's to hoping Benard Scott makes the most of his opportunies the next few weeks, has a few breakout performances, and the Bengals are once again better off because of it.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing lights out
unfortunately, he was set up for failure in Cincy in ’08 with a depleted line, Chris Perry at RB, injured Chad, and suspended Henry. And with the obligation to bring the underachieving Palmer back with his huge salary, we let a good one go.
I the major issue we’re having is right guard. Boling was getting blown up to the point where McGlynn had to step in, who didn’t fair any better. Bobby Williams is getting old and needs to be replaced, but not sure this is a good addition by subtraction.
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
unfortunately, he was set up for failure in Cincy in ’08 with a depleted line…
You left out the key, first, most important way he was set up for failure.
Bratsuckski
isn't it nice to see the Bengals come out and do something different..
from the Brat special of 2yd run, 2yrd run, incomplete pass, punt?
Yesterday didn't look any different.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
Sure it did
at least in the first few drives

Oh it looked different
worse, actually. When we have a shitty QB, we throw on first down. Back when Palmer was there, it was run twice, throw for the 1st about 40% of the time. Dalton is only good enough to get a 1st once. And please don’t try to argue that they were 3rd and longs. Palmer dealt with that every single year and managed to throw for a touchdown or lead us to the goal line for a running TD.
I definitely prefer the no defense, offensive shootout bengals than this pathetic offense blowing an excellent defensive game
its daltons 3rd game!
And aj greens 3rd game, and clint bolings 3rd game! You act like this team should be firing on all cylinders right out of the gate.

I understand that its Dalton's 3rd game
but if he is incapable of winning games or making smart decisions, then he should either not be relied upon as much or benched. Green has done very well. He made the false start penalties, but he did his best against the Brown’s (so many holding and inference calls that were missed), and obviously he was great last week. Boling wasn’t supposed to start, so its not surprising that he’s struggled. Dalton was the starter from day 1. They didn’t give Grad a chance. You have to be smart and you can’t be a whiny bitch when you get hit, and Dalton isn’t doing either
And look at Palmer’s stats Oregon. He was top ten in TD’s thrown, top 5 in sacks taken, and the Bengals were top 5 in the league with dropped passes.
And Benson had the WORST average of any RB with over 1000 yards. Benson also only had 3 100-yard games (we lost 2). One of those losses was Palmer’s fault (week 5, Tampa), the other one he played fine. If our running game wasn’t worthless, Palmer wouldn’t have been forced to throw it up in the air hoping someone would make a play in a desperate attempt to win.
Palmer didn’t have any help. As soon as our players stopped sucking so bad (i.e. last 2 of last 4 games), Palmer was phenomenal. I’m not saying Palmer was perfect, but he wasn’t as stupid with throwing into coverage as Dalton unless we were losing by a TD or more, and he kept us in games throughout. We only had 4 games that we lost by more than 10, and we had the HARDEST schedule of any team last year.
We will see how Dalton does with the easiest schedule in the NFL. I’m not too confident. I hope he improves, but his decision making has been mediocre at best.
I honestly wonder what games you have been watching

Dalton led 3 consecutive scoring drives in his first action as a pro
Don’t give me that Dalton sucks bs
You are completely right
It wasn’t field position or Benson’s 17 yards or a defensive holding penalty that got us our first field goal. It was Dalton’s 1 for 4, 8 yards passing. No arguments on the TD drive, Dalton did well. The 2nd field goal was Dalton again missing passes though. He hardly led us to anything except on the 2nd drive.
I'm sure its just coincidence
but Britt’s is the 2nd knee injury in 2 weeks caused by the Broncos.

have you ever had a pessimistic thought before?
Although for the most part I agree on this part, but man, you are one positive thinking dude!

Yah, I'm a pretty optimistic person:)
Although I wasn’t really that way the 90’s b/c this team was absolutely pathetic but now I really do beleive this team has some talent on the the roster and it’s only a matter of getting the best out of the talent.
Yea, biggie, you are a positive guy - and I like that
If I want to know everything that can go wrong I will talk to my wife. Nah, just kidding. My wife and I are like peas and carrots. I have made the point before and I will restate it here again. Not a single game this year is a must win game. They are all must learn games. We are a very young team with talent in the skilled positions. We need to make the 3-4 weakest position groups among our strongest with the draft and FAs next year and then we can make some noise. I am sure Dalton learned a lot last week and I am sure he will learn more every game the rest of the year. This is not about winning games as much as it is getting stronger.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Although I hate to say this,
But we have a very large amount of players that are FAs next year. MB sign a lot of players to a one year deal and along having the other players coming to the end of their rookie contracts, ummm, I’m afraid of whats going to happen… Especially on the D side, b/c I expect the D to do well.
I suspect that ML had a lot to do with that.
He probably wants to have the latitude to reiher resign them or get new guys that are available. The shortened off season did not allow for a proper negotiation stage. The one year guys are for the most part older bridge players who are there only to keep us viable while the new young guys learn the ropes and gives him time to bring in a new crop of guys. I see another 6-8 player turnover next year. Pulling the weeds, transplanting better plants and planting new to suppliment the established crop. That is one of the reasons I keep saying that these are not must win but rather must learn games. I would rather win 2 games than 8 because that give us better drating position and there is little advantage to winning 8 games and still missing the playoffs. Except of course for the ire of the fans and they don’t really care about that anyway. They know that if we win they will come around.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
I'm saying that
team chemistry and continuity is very important to a team. If they keep flipping players in and out, it will certainly disrupt the team and what Marvin is planning. Most of the players they signed to a one year deal are starters and that is something you don’t want, is rotating starting players in and out of your locker room. Plus, there are starters that are in their final contract year. All of this scares me into thinking another rebuilding year for 2012 too. That’s what I don’t want.
I don't have a problem with turnover at this point as long as...
we are genuinely rebuildng. This means keeping the young to middle aged players with years left and a lot of talent and replacing the other, older and lesser talented players with better talent who also have years left. We currently have IMO a dozen players, 5-6 of them starters who are not going to get us to the next level. I would include both guard positions, a safety, CB, LB and Center. I really like Cook but he just doesn’t have the talent to hold down the position. I also think we need a new OL coach and maybe a receiver coach as well. The DB coadh isn’t stellar either.
Yes, next year will be a rebuilding year as well I am afraid. There are just too many average at best players on the team if we want to compete with the top tier teams and expect to win. What I do not want to see is for the team to bring in a couple over prices over the hill FAs in a vain effort to patchwork the problems to win next year. But, if people are happy just making a decent showing of it we can always continue to do what we have been doing and listen to Baltimore and Pittsburg laugh at us.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
I agree
I just think that Howard and the other LB have the talent to be here. They I think are on a one year deal. Simpson and Caldwell plus a few more position players are on their last year of their contract. But I agree on the the G position and C position. As for safety, IMO Mays will stick out, along with Sands. There is talent there at S behind Crocker.
Keep in mind JJ, this team has been rebuilding for 21 years now and Marvin may be gone after the 2012 season too. So in your mind, it will not bother you to continue to rebuild in 2012? If Marvin leaves, it’s rebuilding in 2013 too. I’m just tired of rebuilding..It’s never ending. It’s time to build on what you got, not rebuild. To me, enough talent is there to succeed.
