According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Bengals have released linebacker DeQuin Evans Saturday morning as Cincinnati continues making moves to trim their roster within the 53-man roster limit. Evans, who signed as an undrafted free agent in late July out of Kentucky, finished the preseason with a team-leading two quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.
With Dan Skuta playing as well as he did and Vincent Rey's strength as a special teams player, Evans joining the 53-man roster was a long-shot, even though he was an early fan favorite and generally received praise for his work from the coaching staff. That being said, the source said that the Bengals are hopeful in signing Evans to the team's practice squad once he clears waivers to continue his development.
The Bengals have reportedly already released the team's seventh-round running back Jay Finley and fullback Fui Vakapuna. Additionally the team is expected to place linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy and tight end Bo Scaife on Injured Reserve with linebacker Keith Rivers and cornerback Adam Jones on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.
