colts cut a solid guard today

Kyle Devan is about as close to an o-line starter you can pluck off the waiver wire from today’s culling

do you blame him?

He was clearly the better player and didn’t get to play.

Not at all

Especially when you consider Livings is still there, but Alexander wants to prove his point, and so we go on.

Does Williams Count?

Does Bobbie count against the 53 since he is suspended? If not, I think the Bengals will be picking up two guards.

Sands is a Practice Squad player, but obviously the Bengals feel they can not sneak him through waivers. But unless he improves, I don’t see how they can afford to let him take a roster spot all season long.

Don't think so...

Hudson sticks because of the suspension. Could have been a chance for Hudson to stick anyway if they felt Boling was better at C than Stephens. Either way, they’re a big man down at RG where they probably needed all the reinforcements they could get.

RG/LG/C looks a priority should any of the starters go down.

Sands

Got caught with Briscoe last season. Same this season with Whalen and Sands.

damn
The Cincinnati Bengals made their final roster cuts Saturday. But it was the suspension of a reliable veteran that was the most surprising.

Starting guard Bobbie Williams, one of the biggest leaders in the locker room, was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy, the Bengals announced. Williams will not be allowed to rejoin the team until Cincinnati’s fifth game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 9.

Adam Caplan tweeted
I’m told the Eagles have released CB Joselio Hanson.
Clearly the best nickel CB out there now. Hanson is outstanding in the slot. That’s the role that he’ll find with another team.

Worth a look? I know we need a guard too, but it’s a thought

eagles were so damned deep at cb, its not shocking they would cut a guy that has talent

jags should be all over that, their secondary is crap

i think trent and jennings are fine.

And Hanson would clog stuff up when pacmans back.

is clark harris really needed?

You would think on a team with 53 NFL caliber athletes, a player who is more useful could long snap.

Artis Hicks? (RG, Skins)

The Washington Redskins are trying to trade backup guard/tackle Artis Hicks to the Cleveland Browns, according to the veteran lineman. If the teams can’t agree on a deal, he will be cut later Saturday evening, Hicks has been told.

Hicks, who started 10 games at right guard for Washington last season, had spent all of the preseason as a backup at that position.

Hicks lost his job to Will Montgomery last season. He suffered a groin injury and never returned to the starting lineup once he was healthy. When training camp opened, Hicks was working as the starting right guard, but Washington signed Chris Chester away from the Baltimore Ravens, and Chester immediately took over as starter once he reported to camp.

The 6-foot-4, 318-pound Hicks was the Redskins only veteran backup lineman other than tackle Sean Locklear. The team earlier on Saturday released rookie guard Maurice Hurt as well as second-year guard/tackle Selvish Capers. The only backup guard on the roster is center/guard Erik Cook, who spent the majority of last season on the practice squad.

start at lg

Boling can fill in rg while bobbies suspended. But a a vet to start at LG the whole season would be great.

Confusion

I still can’t figure out why we kept Roland when Collins can play both tackles. Keeping Shirley and cutting Roland makes a lot more sense. With Shirley’s improvement and certain teams scouring for D tackles (Carolina), he will never make it through the waiver wire to be put on the PS.

I would argue that if you take a teams top 3 defensive tackles and measure them against all the other teams in the league, the 3 we kept put us near the top of the list; however, it worries me that we only kept 3 “space eaters”, especially with Sims coming off of an injury. I realize he destroyed (and that is probably an understatement) a pro-bowl center in the last preseason game but it still concerns me.
