After serving only a few days of a 20-day jail sentence, Cedric Benson is back in Cincinnati with the team and according to a Tweet from Geoff Hobson, he plans to play on Sunday against the Browns in Cleveland.
#Bengals RB Ced Benson returns. Says he plans on playing vs. Browns
This is good news to Bengals fans. Behind Benson on the depth chart is Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard and Cedric Peerman.
There are concerns about Scott's durability and his ability to carry the ball 20-plus times per game and Leonard is primarily used as the team's third-down back. It is likely that the team held on to Peerman as an insurance policy just in case something happened where Benson would miss a few games, be it from injury or jail time/a suspension.
Benson is capable of carrying the ball between the tackles 25 times per game and, now that the team is running a West Coast offense under new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, Benson will an important part of the team's offense.
