Open Thread: New York Jets (8-7) At Miami Dolphins (5-10)

The New York Jets are fighting for a playoff spot, needing a must-win to survive. The Miami Dolphins are looking to end the Jets season. A Jets loss it helps ensure Cincinnati's path to the playoffs if the Bengals can't get beyond the Baltimore Ravens later this afternoon. And really. We just hate the Jets anyway. So it would be gratifying across the board.

When the guy created the Dolphins for Miami’s mascot, did he think of it was intimidating?

i think we want them to win

If the Titans were blowing Houston up by halftime, the Jets might get bummed because they can’t make the playoffs if the titans win (if I am not mistaken). We beat them head to head so we WANT them to win. Unless, of course, you want the Jets to get in via tiebreaker. Personally, I hate the jets.

Been a Texans fan since they came into the league.

forte, rice, hillis probably dont even hit fa market.

leaves the top fa rb at: bush, slaton, lt, and benson

I'm pretty confident whoever their QB is

the only AFC playoff team that I don’t think the Bengals can beat is the Pats. Everyone else they have a good shot at

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

our offense couldn’t hang with the Pats

dude, lay off the video games. Mays couldn’t cover Whit.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 2:09 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I think the problem with mays is that he isn't that smart

so i think you take out thinking for him as much as you can will make him better. But from what I heard from the coaches he did a good job of covering the TEs.

AMAS

by AMAS85 on Jan 1, 2012 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

smarts may be part of the issue..

but we know a MAJOR issue with him is he has the turning radius of a minivan. No hip swivel, no change of direction ability. You can’t cover NFL receivers & TEs by running in a straight line every play.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 2:14 PM EST up reply actions

lol i don't think Gronk is going to break mays hips

dont get me wrong, gronk is quick for his size but Mays would be able to stay on top of him easy…

AMAS

by AMAS85 on Jan 1, 2012 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

maybe we'll see

or maybe Mays will continue play almost exclusively on kickoffs, where he can run fast in a straight line and hit someone hard, if they don’t move out of the way.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

i agree, mays needs to show more but its what i said before

take the thinking out of for him and just let him blitz or cover man to man. I don’t care if the offense knows that he is blitzing the majority of the time because they still have to stop it

by palewook on Jan 1, 2012 2:05 PM EST up reply actions

Actually

I wouldn’t mind the Titans winning only if we win. That means the Texans will be going into the playoffs with a 3 game losing streak. That could play in our favor..

by WHYUS!! on Jan 1, 2012 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Titans/Texans has absolutely no effect on Bengals.

Bengals beat Titans in a head to head, so they have playoff spot ahead in a tie, but in a 3way tie, Titans take the playoff spot. Titans affect the Jets, but not Bengals.

by Alexneyer on Jan 1, 2012 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

Right

but like I said a 3 game losing streak going into the playoffs is bad for a team. If we win ours today, then that could play in our favor for next week..

by JCompton41 on Jan 1, 2012 2:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Charles Johnson is hurt if I remember right, haven’t heard his name. Dan Connor is a decent MLB, otherwise there isn’t a guy in their front 7 I’ve ever heard of.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

I am not sure why people are rooting for Houston

While the game doesn’t affect us, it does affect the Jets. If the Titans were leading by 21 at the half, the Jets might collapse knowing their season is over. Personally, I think that would be much better than them thinking they have a shot.

weird

the announcers are talking about Saints backup QB Chase Daniel. I hated the guy because he was great at Missouri and I hate Missouri more than Baltimore, but I’ve always thought he’d be a good NFL QB if someone gave him a chance. He’s kinda short, but he’s a playmaker.

First time I’ve heard anyone else say good things about him regarding the NFL, though.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 3:20 PM EST reply actions

Newton continues to impress

They’re really missing Otah and I think they’ve had a few other o-linemen on IR. Newton keeps geting pressured and keeps playing smart. Occasionally he takes off running for a big gain, but usually he drops a soft pass perfectly over the shoulder of the tailback, meanwhile 3 Saints are milliseconds away from slamming into his chest.

Anyone else cheering for the Titans?

If, God forbid, Bengals lose and Jets win, I don’t want the Jets going to the playoffs.

by miniglik on Jan 1, 2012 3:30 PM EST reply actions

I know

I just don’t want the Jets to go to the playoffs, and they’re automatically out if the Titans win, no matter what else happens. Titans winning or losing doesn’t affect us, so I’m cheering for them to keep the Jets out, either way.

My brother is a die hard Titan's fan

So there is no way I can root for them to make it. If they happen to make it, and Bengals dont, I will never hear the end of it. Why wouldn’t Raiders & Broncos wins do the same?

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

that's not so

The Titans have the best conference record of all the teams that can potentially finish 9-7. If 3+ teams finish with that record, the Titans are in. Doesn’t matter if it’s us and the Jets or us and the 2nd place 9-7 team in the West.

by indesignkat on Jan 1, 2012 3:56 PM EST up reply actions
