Open Thread: New York Jets (8-7) At Miami Dolphins (5-10)
The New York Jets are fighting for a playoff spot, needing a must-win to survive. The Miami Dolphins are looking to end the Jets season. A Jets loss it helps ensure Cincinnati's path to the playoffs if the Bengals can't get beyond the Baltimore Ravens later this afternoon. And really. We just hate the Jets anyway. So it would be gratifying across the board.

I'd go with the Dolphin
I don’t find a scavenger, garbage eating bird to be intimidating. What the hell was that franchise thinking when they picked a mascot?

Converted a 3rd and 13 out of their own endzone, fiiiirst dooown. Over ten minutes remaining in the first game on that one.

i think we want them to win
If the Titans were blowing Houston up by halftime, the Jets might get bummed because they can’t make the playoffs if the titans win (if I am not mistaken). We beat them head to head so we WANT them to win. Unless, of course, you want the Jets to get in via tiebreaker. Personally, I hate the jets.

Been a Texans fan since they came into the league.
Would be fun for me if it was Bengals V. Texans in round 1. I would obviously be pulling for the Bengals to win, but I am just happy to see the Texans in the playoffs at all.

I bet he falls to 4th, maybe even 5th.
But if we are going to take a RB, i would take Polk out of Washington. We would need to take him with our own 1st round pick, but I think he would be worth it.
Haven't watched Pead enough,
But Polk is a monster out of the Backfield, can Run you over, or run right past you. Good RB, lots of potential.
yea pead isn't the most powerfull running back but he has great vision and good hands
i think he would be worth a shot in the 3rd round, we will have two picks in the 3rd

I think the problem with mays is that he isn't that smart
so i think you take out thinking for him as much as you can will make him better. But from what I heard from the coaches he did a good job of covering the TEs.
AMAS
smarts may be part of the issue..
but we know a MAJOR issue with him is he has the turning radius of a minivan. No hip swivel, no change of direction ability. You can’t cover NFL receivers & TEs by running in a straight line every play.
lol i don't think Gronk is going to break mays hips
dont get me wrong, gronk is quick for his size but Mays would be able to stay on top of him easy…
AMAS
maybe we'll see
or maybe Mays will continue play almost exclusively on kickoffs, where he can run fast in a straight line and hit someone hard, if they don’t move out of the way.
i agree, mays needs to show more but its what i said before
take the thinking out of for him and just let him blitz or cover man to man. I don’t care if the offense knows that he is blitzing the majority of the time because they still have to stop it
AMAS

I wouldn’t mind the Titans winning only if we win. That means the Texans will be going into the playoffs with a 3 game losing streak. That could play in our favor..
Titans/Texans has absolutely no effect on Bengals.
Bengals beat Titans in a head to head, so they have playoff spot ahead in a tie, but in a 3way tie, Titans take the playoff spot. Titans affect the Jets, but not Bengals.

While the game doesn’t affect us, it does affect the Jets. If the Titans were leading by 21 at the half, the Jets might collapse knowing their season is over. Personally, I think that would be much better than them thinking they have a shot.

weird
the announcers are talking about Saints backup QB Chase Daniel. I hated the guy because he was great at Missouri and I hate Missouri more than Baltimore, but I’ve always thought he’d be a good NFL QB if someone gave him a chance. He’s kinda short, but he’s a playmaker.
First time I’ve heard anyone else say good things about him regarding the NFL, though.
really wish they would have scored that TD... nice play Revis
... I still say it was a touchdown, got tammit.
Newton continues to impress
They’re really missing Otah and I think they’ve had a few other o-linemen on IR. Newton keeps geting pressured and keeps playing smart. Occasionally he takes off running for a big gain, but usually he drops a soft pass perfectly over the shoulder of the tailback, meanwhile 3 Saints are milliseconds away from slamming into his chest.
Anyone else cheering for the Titans?
If, God forbid, Bengals lose and Jets win, I don’t want the Jets going to the playoffs.
(Plus, of course, if the Bengals do win, it’s better if the Texans are on a three game losing streak.)
My brother is a die hard Titan's fan
So there is no way I can root for them to make it. If they happen to make it, and Bengals dont, I will never hear the end of it. I would prefer to see OAK/DEN to both get in, get to watch Tebow be demolished by an actual team, and have the off chance that OAK makes the championship and we get that 2nd 1st rounder.
lots of record breakers in this game
Brees for passing yards, Graham for TE receiving yards, Sproles for all purpose yards, Newton for rookie passing yards, Newton for rookie rushing yards, Newton for rookie TDs
total BS

tough penalty...
trying to jump to block the pass and tried to move out the way but…
... I still say it was a touchdown, got tammit.
Call was fine. Stupid play by defender.

Not a "bad" call
That’s the way that’s been called all season. Miami’s fault.
that was close
I was worried they were gonna pull sanchez then actually have a chance to win.

Thank Dirty QB

Mark Sanchez is my new 2nd favorite QB in the NFL
Single-handedly getting the Bengals in the postseason.
Knock on wood
Fat lady hasn’t quite sung yet, and the Jets have gotten lucky before.
up to us. we need to own the ratbirds.
then nothing else matters.
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
True
But the Bengals playoff hopes were all but dead 3 weeks ago, and Sanchez has taken his play to another level of awfulness to put us in front runner status.
dunno about dead.
was up to the jets to win out. and they couldnt even make an effort. choke choke choke.
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
could be a cally thing
leinart was a can of suck in the nfl as well.

Nice job Jets.........a special thank you to Mark Sanchez. God that guy sucks...

That way they can keep on choking……….

depends who wins the pick
not sure colts would trade the luck pick, rams probably would.
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
wonder if manning even comes back
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
Polian said:
“IF manning plays next year, it will be in an Indy uniform.” To me, that is saying that he might play next year, but will not be traded/released. My guess is he plays for a year, retires, and Luck takes over.
Could happen
but I think Polian is full of crap, and the Jets have consistently traded away draft picks for players.
wow
now we will not have the second best team in New York to worry about….
Let’s get the Bengals to slam the door and the conference.

Ha
What a great game of basketball this has become.
not a fumble

If they overturn this it is the EXACT OPPOSITE
of the Bengals first drive against the Jets in the playoffs. Receiver hit, gets inverted, elbow hits ground, ball pops out, they call it Jets ball in that game.
by occams_tiger_teeth on Jan 1, 2012 3:48 PM EST reply actions
You remember that game?
I have blacked it all out. It doesn’t exist.
I have a large storehouse of painful Bengal memories
that are taking up room in my brain.

is it too soon to suggest
sanchez should legally have his name changed in the off season to “Suckchez”
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
wait - what/
why are we rooting for the Titans?
by occams_tiger_teeth on Jan 1, 2012 3:50 PM EST up reply actions
Better for the us in the playoffs
If the Texans have no momentum.
I thought Titans had the edge
in case of a 3 way tie?
The Jets HAD to win
for the Titans to get the playoffs. THey lose all other tie breaks.
Because of the way the tie breaks fall.
Jets HAVE to win for the Titans to get in.
that's not so
The Titans have the best conference record of all the teams that can potentially finish 9-7. If 3+ teams finish with that record, the Titans are in. Doesn’t matter if it’s us and the Jets or us and the 2nd place 9-7 team in the West.
with their recent losses I don't know that they still have the edge
but they need oakland AND denver to win, and for us to lose, for that to matter
however
Don’t we need the titans or the raiders to lose if we don’t get past the ravens?

oh yeah
Raiders and broncos

people underestimate how good that team is
they’re going to finish the year with over 500 total points scored.

missed the tackle AND let him get out of bounds. stupid stupid stupid
... I still say it was a touchdown, got tammit.

jets lose. fins win. happy dance.
presented by katy perry:

" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
Thanks pale. I needed some confirmation that I am just old - not dead.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
I do not want to bring in any negative energy but.....
with the Jets loss what needs to happen if we don’t get it done today? A Denver or a Raider loss?
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
if we lose
and the raiders and the broncos win, we’re out.
" Mike Brown is the owner that Cincy doesn't deserve, not the one it needs..."
Just heard the commentator say
that if the Titans win and Bengals lose, the Titans are in the playoffs
He's wrong
We beat them head to head. Jets had to win for the Titans to have a shot.
