Why not, it's Friday so here's another Mock
Obviously free agency can change things but here's another mock that I think will fills some needs.
Round 1
#17 David DeCastro – Guard – Stanford – Best guard available, if here’s there we take him and we start him right away.
#22 Peter Konz – Guard/Center – Wisconsin – Best Center available who can also start at guard. Best part is if Cook ever gets hurt we can slide him over to center and plug in Boling at guard.
Round 2
Josh Robinson – CB – Central Florida – One of the most athletic CBs behind Claiborne and Kirkpatric. He’s flying up the draft boards and he can also return punts.
Round 3
Trumaine Johnson CB/Safety – Montana – A CB who can play safety as well, it’s a passing league and a safety who can also cover is more important than ever. If Mays and Sand can’t step up we can slide him into the SS position full time as our contingency plan. If they do step up we can start out by using him on obvious passing downs
Round 4
Isiah Pead, Cyrus Gray or Dan Herron RB – UC/A&M/OSU – We need a RB, these are 3 best who may be available at this point that also fit into our offensive system. I'd be fine with anyone not named Cedric Benson
Round 5
Derrek Wolfe DT – Cincinnati – Depth for D-line, and a pick we cannot pass up at this point if he’s still around
Round 5
Kevin Kroger TE – Michigan – We already have Gresham and Cochart but you can never have too many pass catching TE’s, who can also block.
Round 6
Asa Jackson CB – Cal Poly – A speedy CB who can help match up against the new breed of speedy WR’s in the AFC north
Round 7
Brice Brown RB – Kansas State – Very highly recruited out of High School and is entering the draft way too early because of drama. This may be a reach and he does have some off field issues but he has size, speed, and potential that may be worth the gamble on a 7th round draft pick.
I was tempted add a WR and LB to the mix but I think we will be OK, if our current players can come back from injury.
WR – AJ, Shipley, Whalen, Binns, Hawkins and hopefully we can add 1 more WR in free agency
LB – We have both Rivers and Muckelroy coming back from season ending injury, Moch will hopefully be healthy as well, plus we have DeQuin Evans who looked really good last year sitting on the practice squad (although he was hurt as well). Next year, I’m really hoping Muckelroy can push Rey for the starting MLB job. I’m really high on him and think he’s going to be a really good player. He kind of reminds me of Odell Thurman before he turned into a crack head alcoholic.

Good Mock.
I dont know about getting 2 OL in rd 1, but it would be a good investment. I would hope more for a CB and a Guard in rd 1. Cb’s are just worth so much more, that I’d be hesitant to bankroll our future secondary on anything less then a 1st rd pick. I do like your thought of getting a RB late in the 4th. There are always quality starters that slip through the draft, and can be picked up late. I would probably add another WR late in the draft as a project or someone earlier maybe the 3rd rd to push Jerome Simpson to be more consistent.
You've got just about everything covered
Backup T we should draft one as T is deep this year 5th or 6th round.
Backup T would probably be a UDFA
Paul Brown Stadium, where everyone's hopes go to die.
i like the 2 O-Linemen in Round 1 idea
The Bengals will never do it, but wow, that would just about make their o-line formidable for years to come – opening up holes for whoever our RB is, and giving Dalton lots of time to hit AJ deep.
Like it
I especially like getting Konz in the first round to be a starting guard and also a backup center.
I’m hoping that the Bengals fill one of the guard positions with a veteran free agent. That would eliminate the need to draft one of the guards in the first round and allow them to draft another position.
doubt this happens
however, i like it and would approve of it
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
You don't draft a backup center in the first round
Like it or not, we’re committed to Cook for at least another 3 years. And honestly, Cook ain’t half bad. We’re not going to start 2 rookies at guard. If we’re thinking about drafting 2 O-linemen in the first round, it means we did absolutely NOTHING in free agency to address our line and that’s borderline negligent.
And once you start drafting CB’s in the 2-3 rounds you’re drafting backups. We need starters. Elite CB’s rarely come out of the middle rounds – they’re too easy to scout anymore. It’s a rare skillset so when guys have it, it shows on tape right away.
I’d love if we could get Pead and Wolfe, but I think both are going to have strong combines. With Ball staying in school, I wouldn’t be entirely shocked to see Pead push himself up into the bottom of the 2nd round, though he’s probably a mid 3rd rounder. No way he lasts until the 4th unless he tanks his combine or pro day. And Wolfe could be a sleeper. I think he’s as far down draft boards as he is because people don’t know who he is yet. I think he’ll put up a monster combine and suddenly everyone is going to go watch all of his game tape. He could shoot up draft boards REAL fast. I compare him to Justin Smith and I think a lot of pro scouts will too. I also wouldn’t be shocked to see him go in the 2nd or 3rd round, and he might be a steal there. He could be a future Defensive Player of the Year.
with all the corners in this years draft
We could probably get a good one late. After Claireborne, Kirckpatric, any maybe Jenkins, they’re all pretty close.

like if we get a G/RB/S in the 1st?
you can live with a 2nd round corner?
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
Yes.
Especially if it’s Trent Richardson. Though I wouldn’t hate LaMarr Miller.
Agree with you about not wanting to start two rookie guards
I’d prefer we pick up a stud in FA but if not I prefer we resign Bobbie for another year two and Konz compete with him for the job, especially since Bobbie is kind of injury prone as he’s getting older so we would have another option to plug in
i would rather it be a guard and jenkins or barron
If Jenkins is as good as his hype, but I can never complain about drafting oline. So wouldn’t hate 2 guards at all.

I actually don't feel like this is a particularly great draft for corners
Claiborne is the head of the class and I dont’ know that I see him being Revis-level talent. Kirkpatrick is a tick below and I think might actually make a better pro, but could have a Leon Hall-type ceiling. After that it’s a whole lot of question marks. Can Jenkins keep his nose clean (and is he really that good to begin with)? Can Dennard cover tall receivers at the NFL level? Have the small school guys faced enough competition to get a good gauge on them? There may be a LOT of corners, but I don’t see a real deep talent pool. One or two of them are bound to turn out pretty good, but outside of Kirkpatrick I’m left scratching my head as to which ones. Maybe that’s all the more reason to wait until the 2nd round…
+100000000000000000000000000
I’ve been thinking that for a while now. Also this mock was done with the assumption Trent Richardsson, Kirkpatric, and Claiborne would all be gone by the time we pick.
yea like i said
Outside claireborne, kirkpatrick, and maybe Jenkins, everyone’s close. And we won’t have a shot at he top 2, Jenkins might not be worth the risk, or as good as he’s hyped, and the rest from 4th to maybe as far as 10th, are all graded pretty equal.

Started out by saying free agency could obviously change things
We only have like one or two guards who are not free agents this year and we need to strengthen that position badly. We are locked in a pretty solid at tackle so if we can improve the interrior of the line we will be great shape for several years. I like cook as well but if he gets hurt you really want to keep McGlyinn as the back up center?
Despite how Brand Ghee has clouded peoples judgement that you can’t find a good CB that’s ready to play in the 2nd and 3rd round (the 2nd round is still a high draft pick, it’s not a mid round pick) it’s not always the case if you really start to look look around the league. Josh Robinson is a 2nd or 3rd rounder b/c he’s from a small school and declared early. We all know how good AJ Green is and as a sophmore in 2010 the kid held him tin check to 80 yards and out of the endzone when Central Florida played GA.
still havent done any research on robinson
But the more I come across and read about him on here the more I like him. From the sounds of it he might pass up dennard and gilmore.

Just to clarify
I would LOVE to get a Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs in FA but unfortunately I’m not sure if it’s going to happen. The more likely scenerio is we are going to resign Bobbie and/or pick up another middle of pack journey man type guard, alah Duece Lutui or someone like that who maybe good (as in better than Livings) but not great. If this is the case, which I actually think has the best possibility of happening, I’d defintiely like us to take two guards that are ready to play pretty high in this draft – rounds1 and/or 2 would be fine with me.
As for CB, we should have Leon coming back next year and we will have Clements for one more year as well. I think Josh Robinson would be more than capable of jumping into the 3rd CB role for this team and then we can draft another shutdown CB next year (do not love this CB class after the top 2) in the first round. When you consider all the players who have decided go back to college this year (Matt Barkley, Landy Jones, Montee Ball), a top CB may fall down the board to us a little further and we could even take him with the 32nd pick to replace Clements:)
they did make a push for gallary last year
So a guard like nicks may not be out of the question.
by JCompton41 on Jan 13, 2012 12:49 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Oh don't get me wrong
If they are available I think we will make an effort to go after them, I just think a lot of other teams will be in the mix as well and ultimately do not think there current teams are going to let either one walk out the door without making a major push to resign them
Boh the Saints and Ravens just gave their other starting guards MASSIVE contracts
Both teams are going to have a ton of FA’s to deal with this offseason. I dont’ see how the Saints can possibly afford to give Brees his contract, keep Colston, and sign a 2nd guard to a record breaking contract. The numbers don’t add up. Even if you let Colston walk, you have to sign Meachem and I still don’t know how you can spend that much on your interior line, no matter how good they are. Nicks should be available to the highest bidder and that should be us.
Slightly better chance Grubbs stays put, but not much. Yanda just got a huge deal and the Ratbirds are going to have to pony up for Ray Rice. They still have a ton of money tied up in Reed, Lewis, and Suggs and are goign to need to decide if they think Flacco’s their long term answer. If he takes them to a Super Bowl this year then you have to figure they’ll need to extend him or at least keep money in their pocket to do it next year. Bottom line is, there isn’t a team in the league that can afford two $7+ million guards. I think they both move, and there’s absolutely no reason in the world why anyone should be able to outbid us for one of them.
I'm with you and I hope they are available
I actually made the same argument myself in another post. I just know lots of other teams will be interrested in them as well. And most teams do not let all pro players hit the free agent market without making a real effort to resign them first, especially when they are both still releatively young. One way or another in most cases there current teams figure out a way to make it work, not always but most of the time. i mean all you have to do is look at what happened when we let JJoe walk, people were going CRAZY and some still are to this day.
Again, I hope we have the opportunity to go after them because if we do I think we have one of the best shots to land them with our cap situation
We have a Bryce Brown sighting!
Someone could hit a home run on that guy.

Yah, don't know a ton about him except for what I read
He was the #1 ranked recruit coming out of high school won the same award Adrian Peterson won as best high school RB in the nation and then was recruited to Tennessee by Lane Kiffin and when Kiffin left for USC, UT’s new coach Dulley would not sign his transfer papers. Last I heard he transferred to Kansas State and was under some investigation for taking inappropiate funds and then walked away from the team and now he’s entering the draft
Could draft a better CB in 2nd round.........
Hosley, Gilmore, etc……….one of those guys is going to be there. DeCastro won’t be there………not saying isn’t a draft I would like. Just doubt it happens….

I know Gilmore and a few others will probabally still be there
But IMO I like Robinson better than any of them. IMO he may be the 3rd best in the entire draft but again that’s just my opinion
my opinion is that
Stephon Gilmore, Jayron Hosley, Janoris Neblina, Alphonzo Dennard, Cliff Harris, Casey Hayward, Chase Minnifield, Xavier Rhodes…….are all better than Josh Robinson.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.

That's fair and your entitled to your opinion
I guess we’ll see once they get on the field:)
Rhodes is definitely one I would like to see in stripes
Big physical corner that handled Michael Floyd in the bowl game before he got hurt and had to leave the game. Only then did Floyd score a TD or accumulate a decent amount of yards.
But I don’t think he is going to enter the draft until 2013
by Oregonbengalsfan on Jan 13, 2012 9:38 PM EST up reply actions
He is staying at FSU........
First Jenkins, then Reid, now Rhodes
Xavier Rhodes made the same decision as Brandon Jenkins and Greg Reid and will return to FSU in 2012

Take BPA
I would have to say that G/Rb/S is the way I would go in the first round. But it depends. I say take BPA. Even if its a DE. Only this method if we get a guard in the first though. I know FA corners cost but i do not like this draft for corners. The only cb I like besides claibourne, kirkpatrick and jenkins, is casey hayward. Guards such as zeitler and osmele can be had in the 2nd. But we need players who can start and i think whomever we pick with our first 3 picks will be starters. So i see BPA as the solution but we definately need a guard.

If Grimes leaves he'll command at least JJo money
Maybe more since he’d probably be the top CB available. Maybe even Asomugah money. If we weren’t willing to spend it on JJo before giving Hall his extension, we’re not going to do it now. And I dont’ think he’s worth it.
Don't really know
It did it for me when I went to do a fan post. Then I hit enter just like I would when I start a new paragraph
