Open Thread: Denver Broncos (8-8) At New England Patriots (13-3)
Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos head to New England to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots. To say that this game isn't going to set records for television ratings would be a lie. Talk about the game here.

And my failed playoff predictions continue.
I picked the Bengals, Steelers, Falcons and Saints last week. 1 for 4. I picked the Saints this week, so I’m 0 for 1 so far. Still got the Pats, Packers and Ravens.

I missed the first drive...
I see that Hernandez has a 43 yard run. How did that happen?

I hate Brady
he went total douche when he married Giselle…

(B) they are in love

Tebow turns it over.
Once the Pats put this in the end zone, Denver’s going to be in a deep hole.

NE formula
make just enough defensive plays… and ride their offense..
Watching Stanford Jennings kick return in the Super Bowl was the out of body experience of my sports life.
Even in that 16-0 season, their defense wasn't all that great.
They were just able to make timely turnovers and stop opposing teams just enough for their offense to win. Until the Super Bowl, that is.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
They beat the Giants in week 17, 38-35
the Packers beat the Giants earlier this season 38-35.

The Patriots are so inventive...
Putting receivers on defense, using tight ends as running backs. Sigh….wish my team would think outside the box like them.
It only works because they're the f***ing Patriots.
Remember when the Bengals tried to run a (somewhat simple) trick play and have Scott throw the ball back to Dalton after a handoff? Absolute disaster- Scott’s pass went 5 feet over his head. We also tried to run the option one play. That resulted in a turnover.

Gresh will give the production of Gronk and Hernandez combined.
Cochart is just there as a figurehead to make it a duo.

The ruling on the field stands
because it’s the Patriots. Had this been the Bengals, that’s incomplete.
by occams_tiger_teeth on Jan 14, 2012 8:38 PM EST reply actions
The ball moves wayyyy more than Gresham's TD moved...
And it was a lot easier to see… and clearly the ground SECURED his catch whereas with Gresham is moved half a millimeter AFTER he caught it and brought it into the endzone… For Gronk its a TD for Gresh its overruled… Nice consistency there…
amazing
It’s good to be a Pats fan. The league loves and the refs love you. I think maybe the league tells the refs to love them.

After this game, all the announcer's will go back to bashing Tebow
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
Pats have hit every play
8-for-8 for 79 yards passing.
That’s not Tebow’s fault.

I know,i want Tebow to hush them up
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
well good news
We will only have to listen to ESPN talk about Tebow about 1/2 as much if they lose.
"Next season will be better" circa 1990
I almost feel bad for Tebow.
If the blowout continues, all we’re going to hear about from the national media is how he isn’t an NFL QB and needs to be replaced. Not only does the media attention make people hate him, he also gets more criticism than anyone when he messes up.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
precisely
that’s the thing about Tebow. It is not about his faith or ability. The media cannot believe he is genuine and want to tear him down before something else does. For no reason really
by david in upstate SC on Jan 14, 2012 8:46 PM EST up reply actions
yep imagine having that much pressure. Then again, people have been telling him he couldn’t do it his whole life.
by Tampa_Bengal on Jan 14, 2012 8:47 PM EST up reply actions
I don't buy that people have been "telling him he can't do it his whole life."
He’s gifted with more athletic ability than about 99% of the people in this world. I guarantee you no one said he “couldn’t do it” in high school. And college? He was recruited by one of the best programs in the nation and won the Heisman in his Sophomore year, for God’s sake.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
I havn’t read his book, but from what I’ve heard, he says that people have always doubted him in highschool to go on to play for a division 1 team. But regardless, even though he is very athletic there is no doubt that as soon as the Broncos drafted him in the first round people have been criticizing his ability more than needed thats for sure.

If I was the Broncos
I would bring in a QB and attack this secondary. It’s what everyobe else does.

I am going to write something unpopular (like I did a lot two years ago)
I think Tebow throws a better deep ball.
He is the rare QB who can’t throw short but can go bombs away if needed.

Interesting
The Steelers sold out to stop the run, so the Broncos replied with bombs away.
The Pats are selling out to stop the run, and not stopping it.

Pats defense is shaky at best
Tebow fumbled once, and there was a dropped pass on the 3rd down that stopped Denver…. if Broncos don’t hurt themselves on offense, they should move the ball.

Yes, please, stop the option.
It’s a college thing and it’s stupid. I want teams to shut it down so it ends up having no place whatsoever in the NFL.

I think it could be cool, high risk
But makes the defense have to be honest
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
hmm
are you sure about that seems like gronk runs circles around him, or maybe we just don’t use our t.e. the correct way.
by bengalinflorida on Jan 14, 2012 9:21 PM EST up reply actions
I think it's a combination of both.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
I wonder what would happen if him and Gresh switched teams.
Gresh is really hurt statistically by our system not using the TE a lot, but the more I watch Gronk the more I think he’s probably simply the better of the two.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
I think we will find out next season
I think Gruden wants to start using Gresh more in the passing game and if we can fix our o-line I think we will be able to
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
and if we drafted dez instead of gresh and waited for another t.e. would we be better off? who knows woulda coulda shoulda
by bengalinflorida on Jan 14, 2012 9:23 PM EST up reply actions
Could have picked up Gronk later in that draft, actually.
Could you imagine having Dez Bryant and Gronkowski both on this offense? It would be awesome. Oh well…
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
Another interesting thought.
Also, maybe if Carson has Dez and Gronk he demands a trade and we don’t get Dalton. Too many variables involved.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean

The Pats passing tree
seems like it works a lot better. There’s a lot of plays that seem like the Bengals don’t have in their playbook (especially stuff working deep down the middle of the field)
by occams_tiger_teeth on Jan 14, 2012 9:26 PM EST up reply actions
I will say this
I think our playbook will expand a whole lot this offseason with Gruden staying.
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
Definitely.
Bellichick has a rare ability to get guys open by scheming alone. You could throw some guys with relatively low talent into his system and as long as they’re smart enough to grasp it, they’ll be good receivers. I bet he could make a guy like Whalen or Baby Hawk look amazing. (Not so much on a guy like Caldwell- he couldn’t even get on the field for the Pats because he wouldn’t be able to understand the system.)
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean

going back to another question
who do you guys think is better or will be better in there career dez or aj
by bengalinflorida on Jan 14, 2012 9:34 PM EST reply actions
Dez Bryant or AJ Green?
You can’t be serious.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
Dez is hurt an awful lot
and he has quite a few games where he just doesn’t show up
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
AJ. Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Megatron
are all in their own class at WR. Dez is a step below all of those guys.
"Next season will be better" circa 1990
AJ is going to work out
with Fitzy, and Megatron this offseason…….that’s awesome
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
i would like to see aj fill out a little more what is his weight at right now?
by bengalinflorida on Jan 14, 2012 9:40 PM EST up reply actions
I love a receiver who's his height and 240, but AJ isn't built to weigh a lot.
His frame just won’t support that type of weight. He’s fine remaining skinny- he’s still extremely strong.
That said, I wouldn’t object to him putting on a good 10 pounds of muscle.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
Megatron is in a class of his own even above the rest of those guys, I think.
He’s like AJ plus about 50 pounds and even more strength. In my opinion no one else in the NFL even rivals him.
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean

the one thing that really bothers me about the broncos is

I actually like Teebow and have been rooting for him to suceed
His receivers have had some drops tonight. Having said that, I think the broncos are screwed because I don not think he is the long term answer and there is no way Denver can go in another direction at this point
Saints piled up 450+ yards
and the article still says the 49ers had a stingy defense.

They forced their share of turnovers, though.
