Open Thread: Denver Broncos (8-8) At New England Patriots (13-3)

DENVER, CO - DECEMBER 18: Quarterback Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos and quarterback Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots shake hands after an NFL game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on December 18, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The New England Patriots won, 41-23. (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)

Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos head to New England to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots. To say that this game isn't going to set records for television ratings would be a lie. Talk about the game here.

And my failed playoff predictions continue.

I picked the Bengals, Steelers, Falcons and Saints last week. 1 for 4. I picked the Saints this week, so I’m 0 for 1 so far. Still got the Pats, Packers and Ravens.

Once the Pats put this in the end zone, Denver’s going to be in a deep hole.

Even in that 16-0 season, their defense wasn't all that great.

They were just able to make timely turnovers and stop opposing teams just enough for their offense to win. Until the Super Bowl, that is.

The Patriots are so inventive...

Putting receivers on defense, using tight ends as running backs. Sigh….wish my team would think outside the box like them.

by Israeli on Jan 14, 2012 8:31 PM EST reply actions

It only works because they're the f***ing Patriots.

Remember when the Bengals tried to run a (somewhat simple) trick play and have Scott throw the ball back to Dalton after a handoff? Absolute disaster- Scott’s pass went 5 feet over his head. We also tried to run the option one play. That resulted in a turnover.

The ball moves wayyyy more than Gresham's TD moved...

And it was a lot easier to see… and clearly the ground SECURED his catch whereas with Gresham is moved half a millimeter AFTER he caught it and brought it into the endzone… For Gronk its a TD for Gresh its overruled… Nice consistency there…

I almost feel bad for Tebow.

If the blowout continues, all we’re going to hear about from the national media is how he isn’t an NFL QB and needs to be replaced. Not only does the media attention make people hate him, he also gets more criticism than anyone when he messes up.

precisely

that’s the thing about Tebow. It is not about his faith or ability. The media cannot believe he is genuine and want to tear him down before something else does. For no reason really

by david in upstate SC on Jan 14, 2012 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

yep imagine having that much pressure. Then again, people have been telling him he couldn’t do it his whole life.

by Tampa_Bengal on Jan 14, 2012 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

I don't buy that people have been "telling him he can't do it his whole life."

He’s gifted with more athletic ability than about 99% of the people in this world. I guarantee you no one said he “couldn’t do it” in high school. And college? He was recruited by one of the best programs in the nation and won the Heisman in his Sophomore year, for God’s sake.

Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean

by sexsalad on Jan 14, 2012 8:51 PM EST up reply actions

I havn’t read his book, but from what I’ve heard, he says that people have always doubted him in highschool to go on to play for a division 1 team. But regardless, even though he is very athletic there is no doubt that as soon as the Broncos drafted him in the first round people have been criticizing his ability more than needed thats for sure.

Definitely.

Bellichick has a rare ability to get guys open by scheming alone. You could throw some guys with relatively low talent into his system and as long as they’re smart enough to grasp it, they’ll be good receivers. I bet he could make a guy like Whalen or Baby Hawk look amazing. (Not so much on a guy like Caldwell- he couldn’t even get on the field for the Pats because he wouldn’t be able to understand the system.)
