Although Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin could be available to be hired by the Dolphins fairly soon, there’s increasing chatter in league circles that the Dolphins are presently leaning toward Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Well the Jags hired Mularkey after the Falcons offense played terribly in the playoffs...
… so the trend looks good for Philbin. :)
they'll probably promote Coyle
personally, I’d like to see Mike singletary or Jack Del Rio land in Cincy if we lose Zimmer
personally
I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach and hiring Jack Del Rio as Defensive Coordinator. Who Dey!!!

I'll take Singletary.
I think he’d teach Rey a lot of things, and would light a fire under some asses.
Head coach and Coordinator are different beasts
And the 9ers are doing pretty well with the foundation he built.
yeah, Labeau is the biggest example
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.

what?
lebeau got stuck in a no win situation as head coach. would hardly call it an example of lebeau being in over his head. if anything, the whole experience with mike at the helm, soured lebeau on ever going down that path again.

i'd like singletary too
get someone who could unscrew out LB core too

Being loud and calling a lot of people out doesn't make someone a good coach.

You can be a good coach and be loud and call people out.
But that alone doesn’t make you a good coach. I see no desirable traits about Singletary. He’s a prick, he was horrible in SF, and he divided the locker room as well.

and being loud and calling someone out
doesnt make you a bad coach

No, it doesn't.
Being a bad coach makes you a bad coach.

saints and eagles were trying to talk to Spagnuolo
depending on whose side you believe. he told the eagles he wasn’t interested in deciding on any team for awhile.
as for the year thing, it came from a st louis reporter interview originally. he’s officially not made the statement about taking a year off and yet has been non-committal to what his plans are.
So what’s next for Spagnuolo?
“In all honesty, I don’t know,” he said. “I was let go on Monday, and today’s Friday and I am very blessed in this way. The phone has been ringing. There has been contact (from several teams), but I have asked that everyone respect the fact that I need some time to figure out what I want to do next, and so far, everyone has.”
And how much time does he need to figure out what he wants to do?
“I don’t know,” he said. “I’m not sure.”
When he suggested to Maria that he might take the year off and spend time with her, she started to laugh.
“I know Steve, and I told him no way,” she said laughing. “There’s no way he will be able to sit around for a year doing nothing. … He loves coaching way too much to sit around idly for a year.”
But the Spagnuolos are a fiercely religious couple, and because of their faith — and their connection with Joyce Meyer Ministries’ Dream Center in north St. Louis — they have contemplated that if he does take a year off, they would do Christian missionary work in Africa.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
And Fisher was thisclose to going with the Dolphins
All the media talk is manipulation for teams/coaches to try to get what they want. I’m not putting any stock in these “leaning” rumors.
Del Rio would be great
Singletary……are you guys crazy
"In a battle between patience and power, patience always wins"
going to break my heart when we lose zimmer
he’s earned his shot as HC. shame brown won’t kick marvin to gm and zimmer to HC. we’ve all known the days of zimmer staying in cincy as just the d-cord were numbered. if not this year, then next year, or the year after etc. seems we’ve had this discussion for the past 2 years running.

Miami apparently still looking at offensive guys like McCoy….so it’s not a sure thing Zim leaves

For you guys bashing Singletary...
It doesn’t make any difference how bad of a head coach the guy was, as someone already mentioned – being a Head Coach and a defensive coordinator are two entirely different things and one performance of one doesn’t necessarily forecast how he’ll do in the other.
Again, look at Dick Lebeau. Singletary would make a FINE defensive coordinator. Also, there is a REASON he was hired to be the niners HC in the first place – because he had a proven track record as a defensive coach.
i think Singletary would make a great DC for the same reasons that make Zimmer a great DC
and thats coaching with fire. I think maybe Singletary didn’t pan out as a HC so much because he is a little too old school and his players didn’t buy into it that much. But I wouldn’t mind him being our DC and Im sure our LB unit would get better… I just don’t want to see any decline on DL.
AMAS
Which is why I wouldn't necessarily want Zim as head coach
He deserves a shot somewhere, but he may not be very good (like Singletary, LeBeau, and too many others to mention) and then, with Mikey’s loyalty issues, we’d be stuck with him for decades to come.
His players hated him.
That’s a factor, isn’t it?
Cincy Jungle: Where the Rocky Mountains are in the Pacific Ocean
Sure....as a head coach.
Again – there is a reason he was promoted to Head Coach in SF. Did it pan out the way he would have liked? No….but his track record on the defensive side of the ball is why he got the opportunity. If ALL his defensive players “hated” him – then why did they play for him?
Also – I don’t think I ever read about a defensive player not liking Singletary….but I could be wrong. I know Vernon Davis despised him – BUT, if it wasn’t for Singletary kicking him out of a game he may not have turned his career around in SF either.
