Open Thread: AFC Championship

To me, this is the most exciting weekend of the season. I love conference championship weekend more than any other in the playoffs because we get to see quite possibly the best games of the season as each team are desperate to get to the super bowl.

So, who's it going to be? Will we watch the Ravens, our division rivals, representing the AFC in Super Bowl XLVI, or will it be the New England Patriots, a team we haven't beaten since 2001? Great offense against great defense, it should be a great game.

Our own Mojokong believes the Pats win by a score of 31-20. What do you think?

I think the Ravens D comes to play today..........

they’ve shown they can beat the Pats at home. But I think Brady and the offense are too much even for them, Pats win going away 38-28.

at least one team will lose....

I just can’t take Brady anymore… give me Peyton any day… Brady turned into a douche with the supermodel, and when he yells at the other team’s bench after a big play.

but I think it could be an advantage for the Bengals if the Ravens make the Super Bowl, as much as it will hurt….. SB hangover next year, mentality slips a little.

I don’t like the type of football they play. In a perfect world for me the whole spread offense type thing gets figured out and teams go back to running the ball.

The NFC was the better conference this year, but I think there's a really good chance the winner of the AFC wins the SB.

That’s the beauty of the NFL, though. Any of the four remaining teams could realistically win it all.

Really sick of them raving over Oher

he’s pretty mediocre, but they act like he’s a genius. They were raving about his run blocking on a play in the 2nd, saying Rice was “running behind Oher”, when Oher got pushed 4 yards back and then held the defender, allowing Rice to run in front of him. It kinda worked, on that play, but I’d rather have a guy that can push defenders back instead of a guy who gets pushed back deep into the pocket then holds.

I don't like the Ravens

but that it is not right… and seeing the Patriots celebrate sucks

Such a bunch of horrible decisions on that final drive.

Flacco had the easiest first down and opted to float it in the air. Evans dropped an easy TD. Cundiff whiffed a relatively easy FG.

+1

personally

I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach and hiring Jack Del Rio as Defensive Coordinator. Who Dey!!!

I agree

they had 2nd and 1…. Evans could have caught the second down… but they could have run 3rd down, plus too much time ran off the clock after they respotted the 1st down

Poor Indy.

Brady and Peyton’s little brother playing for the super bowl during their worst season must be a kick in the balls.

It wasnt him that killed anyone....

It was the guys he was with during a bar fight. He testified against them. I know its fun to make false accusations against a rival but doesnt make it true.

Also...

Didn’t it seem like Baltimore rushed the kick? the clock wasn’t running. Looked like Cundiff, in addition to having a shitty leg, felt rushed.

Flaaco

got to give him credit, he led them down the field, Evans should have had it, would have made a hero of him.

God, I hate every team left.

Actually, I hated pretty much every team left in the divisional round.

The 49ers are hated for reasons which will not be talked about. I hate the Giants because of Eli and Coughlin. The Ravens are gone now, but they’re probably the worst of all. And while I don’t hate the Patriots as much as most people do, I sure as hell don’t want them to win a Super Bowl.

I guess out of the teams left I like the Giants best hate the Giants least.

I like the 9ers, just for the comeback story

And this team is so far removed from the 80s I don’t hold that against them.

by emeybee on Jan 22, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

I wasn't even alive back then

I just hate that they made us the Bungles. And I can’t hold it against them because winning was what they were supposed to do, but it sucks.

I like the Patriots, when you have been a Bengal fan for 30+ years...

you need a backup AFC team that you like 2nd. I always root for them vs. all but the Bengals. And was especially happy to see Ray Rice’s face when they missed that kick.

by brisd on Jan 22, 2012 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

Good news?

Lewis might be motivated to stick around another season because of this.

by KSE on Jan 22, 2012 6:21 PM EST reply actions

I really think

that was Ray Lewis and Ed Reed’s last game…They have to feel like that was going to be their best/last chance at a Super Bowl

by columbusbengalsfan on Jan 22, 2012 6:24 PM EST reply actions

Reed is retiring.

I think Ray’s ego won’t accept that he’s a shell of himself.

by KSE on Jan 22, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

Reed is still good

I don’t know if he’ll retire yet. If Ray is even a little honest with himself he’ll know that he’s lost a step (or 20).

by emeybee on Jan 22, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

Reed is more of a injury case.

He almost retired once because of constant neck injuries. Not winning it this year and more injuries…might be the final decision for Reed.

He doesn't have a ring, though.

I could see him sticking around until he either gets a ring or can’t walk anymore.
